glennscrima I changed the header to XP only. I think I might pick up a Mac Mini and run Vista and OS X together with boot camp that way I can write variation of those guides for those OS's

glennscrima I'm a blind bat myself wish I could afford laser eye surgery.

dosraider My sincere excuses, overlooked the:

Finally when finished rename your Dosbox folder "Abuse".
Fine by me then.

Seems I need new glasses afterall.

glennscrima How do you figure that, each game is in a separate folder with its own copy of dosbox within that folder.
06-02-2008 10:20 PM
dosraider Of course it works, for one single game.
I have about approx 120 dosgames on my HD for the moment, -(yeah yeah must clean up, I know ...nag nag nag...)-, your system won't work.
As soon as you install more than one game you're screwed I'm affraid.
And I think you can safely assume that most dosgames lovers have more than one game installed.....
But for one single game, yes, indeed, it works fine.

That is correct for XP, I've run dozens of games with that method without a problem and get happy responses from visitors all the time who got their game working after following my steps correctly. I don't run Vista so thanks for letting me know the file system and access is different. Most people still use XP however so that must be why most don't have a problem.

dosraider That's pretty nice, glennscrima, but...
For discworld you write:
Quote:
Next: Now with the dosbox config file open scroll to the bottom. We are going to place some text below [autoexec]:
mount c c:\discworld
c:
For Abuse you write:
Quote:
Finally: With the dosbox config file open scroll to the bottom. We are going to place some text below [autoexec]:
mount c c:\abuse
c:
cd abuse
That doesn't seems to be very correct. You do that for every game you wrote a howto for. (a nice thing to do, don't misunderstand me).
What you think? You hardly can find that OK.
Take a look@

You'll find a better solution there.
(A folder to use and mount as C, install the games in a subdirectory and CD to it from the prompt).

And yes, you will need to update it for Vista I'm affraid, as more users are on a 'standard' account there, or even a restricted one, they can't write directly to C:, the simpliest solution is to let them work in their own \users\your_name\folder\. Mount that as C, avoids a lot of problems in Vista.

But it's really a nice list of howtos you made there. Must been a lot of work.

glennscrima I have an install guide on my blog that might help. Its one of my first guides so I might need to update it for Vista but works perfectly on XP.

The Fifth Horseman What was the solution, then? Someone else might come around with the same problem later, and it would be much easier to direct him to your answer.
