Ahh, Starglider.

I still have the "novel" that came with this game! ...I have no idea where my disks or anything else went, but I managed to hang on to the book. It basically wrote out the entire premise for the game, along with giving names to the people flying in the fighter you're in and a whole bunch more backstory...as well as even going through to the finish against the giant Starglider-ship enemy. (See, the Stargliders themselves are actually harmless cosmic birds, but the baddies patterned their ships after them to get through the defensive nets....um...you'd have to read it. ; )

Wonder if there's some way I could scan it and turn it into a PDF to upload it as Extra material for this without damaging it. Hrm.

...anyhoo. Just immediately thought of that when I saw this game on here. ;

lordjakian Wow, all I remember about this game was that it was really hard. But the graphics were nuts for my old franklin computer. I think the only other game I had at the time to compare it to was reader rabbit and wizardry. Ha, next to those it was really neat......but I was six at the time

Guest Eagle, I think you mean 'The Last Starfighter'

Seb, you're talking about 'Flight of the Navigator'

Neither film has anything to do with this game though.

HTH, HAND :bye:

Sebatianos I think it was called the Navigator... The only scene I can really remember from that movie is that the spcacraft the boy was in stoped, for the boy to take a piss... and then later on when they hid under water the boy said to the computer: "I hope you don't leak." and the computer (remembering how the boy was passing water) said: "I don't leak, you do!"

But I'm not sure it was based on this very game (it might have been this one though).

Eagle of Fire Isn't there a movie based on this game? I remember watching a movie when I was young, some arcade machines were sent all over the galaxy and one of them was sent by mistake on Earth. The "champion" of the arcade was then sent to space to be trained as a real cadet, and the Earth "champion" ended up the one who saved the galaxy against all odds...

Its like all action is on a 2d plate in space while the rest of space is empty.
That's because its set on a planet's surface, not in space

I played this on my Speccy - great game The review is wrong to suggest you pilot the Starglider - thats the command ship of the enemy which you need to destroy with missiles (which you collect from the silo's - the rotating wedge-shaped objects). The 128k Spectrum version had synthesised speech from your on-board computer as well.

Guest My C64-Version had 16 colors. IBM Compatibles were anything but gaming machines in this era.
