Roadkill Ah yes the classical timeout

heres a magical xcom starter that will sove most of ur problems
you will have to download it from below:

instructions:

step 1: check for viruses first (I have already but just in case)
step 2: extract to your xcom 1 directory
step 3:double click on it, it will ask where the hell your xcom 1 executable file is (sorry for sounding like a geek), just say 'hey man, its right over there' in other words click on the executable file (if you dont know what im on about ask someone to explain cause I cant say it in an easier way)

step 3: play play play!

if you need the xcom 2 player just ask.

hope this helps!

Elon Yariv I have 733 MHz.
I don't think that there is anything wrong with my computer since X-com is older then this computer. A game can't be too good for a computer of it's time.

If nobody knows the answer to this error then can somebody direct me to a site with an answer or people that can help me?

Sorry for the doble post, I wanted this thread to return to the front page

Lucullus Where did you get this version from? Never encountered it myself. Altho the game crashing is probably due to issues of new technology against old software writing.

Elon Yariv Sometimes when I open UFO.exe(I think it's the windows one, it got a sun for an icon) this "Patch code timed out" message shows up. When I press ok the game doesn't start put it's process still runs and takes nearlt 100% of the virtual memory in order to work. After closing the process and trying again UFO sometimes works and sometimes this message returns. How do I fix it?

If that was all it wouldn't have been so bad, would it. It's not all. Sometimes the game crashes in the time of the battles but never in the first battle after I entered UFO. It crashes sometimes after the equiping screen, sometimes when I leave the craft with a non hovering solider(when I move between levels of hight) and sometimes it just crashes in the midst of the battle. I think it crashes because of the same "Patch code timed out" error.

This isn't so bad because I can save before big battles when It's likely to crash but still, it's annoying.
