edemark Hi
You might also skip some frames. It is exeptionally useful in older machines. I was using it a lot while i was playing on my pII 365 Mhz.

good luck

The Fifth Horseman Both are DosBox things.
The cycles are - roughly speaking - a form of speed gauge in DosBox (so you can regulate the emulator to run as fast as your machine allows or slow it down to run some of those super-old games).
Core is a setting in dosbox.conf.

As t directions, I'll refer you to the official DosBox FAQ, and particularly this part of it. It is quite helpful for users unfamiliar with DosBox.

jarrod Thanks everyone for getting back to me. I was on vacation or I would've thanked you sooner. Please get a little more basic with me. "Cycles" and "Core", what are we talking about here? Is this a DosBox thing or a WindowsXP thing? Appreciate the help! I'll look in the rest of the forum but if anyone could point me in the right dirction sooner I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
J

The Fifth Horseman I always use manual cycle control.

The dynamic core mode works wonders. In my case, C&C works smoothly 99% of the time, occasional slowdowns occur only with huge numbers of units active.

cycles - auto
core - dynamic.

This works for me with every game, except Gender Wars which is just a huge pain in the anus, in terms of getting it to run on XP.

Hmm.. so there is a setting that cycles can be set to auto. Hmmmmmm..

Lulu_Jane Perhaps you need to fiddle with the cpu cycles - make them higher?

jarrod Hi All,
I was going through some old disks and found my original C&C. I tried to run it on my WindowsXP PCs but I couldn't get the sound to work. When I ran it in DosBox the sound worked perfectly but the controls didn't work well (the converse was true in XP). In DosBox the action skiped and my cursor moved slowly and seemed out of sync. Is there a way to tweek DosBox to sync with C&C?
Thanks,
Jarrod
