Another thing that works is to manually edit the .cfg file. It's flat text... for a lot of old games... I just set my matrix cubed and ctd save directories to the same dir by editing the cfg file. Since the characters can go between games, this is neat for the SSI games. Deleting the cfg file is more idiot proof, but, I prefer the edit method. Get more familiar with the way games used to be made, no usage of the stupid registry, etc... all settings in one folder... that's the way to go. I can pack up my "oldgames" folder onto a portable thumbdrive with dosbox on it, play directly from the drive or drop copies at other PCs I am on, copy back and bring my savegames home easily because of this... Sad that old games are better than new ones in such a basic area. |

I never said I don't agree with much of what been said here. What I don't agree with is the practical side of the whole thing. It's not because you and me know that we should not mix Windows with DOSBox or about pathing issues that it will stop the vast majority to try and wonder why it's not working... Most people don't even know what a directory is! All they know about is folders... |

That's excactly why people should NOT mount their C:\root but learn to run dosgames in dosbox. Dosgames, not Win/NT games. And correctly mount a folder as virtual C. You are becoming a real bore EOF. |

That's exactly why I'm thinking people should mount their c: drive. The problem here was exactly the same I was describing at the beginning of the discussion. |

Paths..... paths, the first time you run the game it saves the path in matrix.cfg, as it are different paths running directly in Windows or using dosbox, it can't find the save folder anymore. Enjoy it. Charlie he says ..... |

I was just trying to use Champions of Krynn as a litmus for Buck Rogers, as its made in the same "style" I never had a problem with it, just trying to see if I could learn something about the Buck Rogers from it... I'll try to set it up as you did... Well slap my ass and call me Charlie, deleting matrix.cfg did the trick! Thanks! |

I unzipped the game in E:\games\buck\ Also created manually a e:\games\buck\save\ Mounted E:\games\ as C in dosbox. cd buck start Launches game, no problems to save/load games. Delete matrix.cfg in your \buck\ folder and start over, choices when configuring: VGA ADLIB MOUSE Accept c:\buck\save\ as save dir. Works flawless in dosbox 0.72 default config. And Sturmrabe, mixing your problems about several games in one topic won't help much to keep things sorted out. |

Oh poop, no one has Curse of the Azure Bonds :'( That is the only one I never actually finished... I thought it came out before the Krynn goldbox games... wonder why its not here... Hmmm... Anyway, I'll try one of the Krynn ones on AB in the mean time... EDIT: Blah, no Curse cause its in that game compilation... I might just buy it Ok, after messing around with Champions of Krynn I THINK I figured it out; Even if you change the save path in the config file of the game there is a COPYSAVE.BAT file that I am pretty sure is hosing things up, after running that and HD35.BAT I am now able to save Champions of Krynn chars to the the "Save" folder in the S:\DOS\COK\ directory... Why this started working I have no idea... I noticed that after I ran HD35.bat it put a SAVEGAMA.DAT file in the "Save" folder, and in the game when I tried to 'load saved game' it gave me an option A to choose from... and after that I was able to save chars I had made... If you could replicate not being able to save and try that it would as least tell us how I was able to save to I/we to tell future users of the Gold Box games with this issue... though unfortunately, this doesn't help me with BUck Rogers at all |
