Dreod Ah... an interesting game. Still, it doesn't last too long - as soon as I became Emperor, nobody would ever try to attack me. The choices are limited then:
a) To go around the galaxy and pown everyone in your way, so that every planet is ruled by family member.
b) To stay on Planet Empire indifinately, doing nothing.
c) To stay on Planet Empire indifinately, being hostile towards any incoming visitors, most likely forcing them into attacking you.

...but it's all for nothing. Even the more difficult scenarios or starting as, for example, a King/Queen... just... meh. Eventually you just end up waiting till the Emperor/Empress goes away from his/her system, attack, take the money, do the same few times so you can buy a fleet as big as theirs and attack.

Of course, they still have a big chance of winning. But eventually you will win, become new ruler and... it begins to get boring. Big time.

What are you using to run the game?

If it's DOSBox try pressing Ctrl+F10.

Greyfox Maquis Yea i wish there was some sort of difficulty level tho i guess thats what the different scenarios are for, i notice the first one is even sized families and like the last one has a dominant family so i guess the focus wasnt on who you fought but their family,

like if you picked on a large family they would come down on you like a ton of bricks.

btw has anyone sussed out how to use the call to arms properly?(summoning your vassals/family? to fight). I think defence is just calling them to you and ive done that but i tried attack and they just came to my position but i dunno how to command them to jump to attack.

Dancing_with_wolves Hm... this game is one of the most interesting games i played lately, that's for sure.

I found only one thing extremely irritating. You can, say, become a King straight from being a Lord... but even as a King, destroying the Emperor's fleet is enourmous butthurt. Especially irritating if You, as I do, have already replace all of your vassals with your family, effectively controlling a sector of a galaxy.

As for the fighting, i just use Quick option, it's good enough to sometimes allow you to win with smaller forces.

Greyfox Maquis I think the actual personal fighting was just eyecandy for those days or that its a last ditch attempt since all you have to do to win a battle is destroy the flagship(i think) or kill the lord's battlefighter. obviously the same objective is for the other lord so generally a good idea to keep yourself out of battle anyway unless your like the emperor vs a lord (your ships strength is dependant on your rank) i cant remember how good mercenaries or gunships are, itll be in one of the manuals. Mercs are definitly better than lords starfighters so u might want to have a fleet of them instead of your fighters at the start.

The Fifth Horseman Disable heuristic test and scan the file again. This option when enabled allows for identification of new virii, but can also lead to false positives when the program adresses the hardware directly like pretty much every DOS game did.

Japo As it's been already said, false positives are specially common with old 16-bits DOS programs. It would help if you said which antivirus flagged which file(s).

I've scanned with three different programs (Avira, PC Tools and Kaspersky) and none detected any virus.

red_avatar The combat was definitely the weak part of the game because it was simply too frustrating. Finding your opponent is what you spend most of the time doing which is not good. Still, avoid the personal combat and it's still quite fun. If this game had TIE Fighter quality combat, though, it would have been an enormous classic.
