The Niles Yes it did not run in VDMSound but I have been able to get it working VIA DOSBox now, the DOS32a thing worked. The only problem I now have is that there is no sound and the cutscenes do not show. I have no idea why that is do you.

Data that env variable error is located in that post as well . you have to set a variable that points to dos32a install location.

i think people are trying very hard to run it in dosbox as it has problems in vdmsound.

The Niles Now what did I do wrong?.

Sorry to bring this up again but I finally got around to trying this. I followed the instructions to the letter but it did not work. I at the final stage i got the following error.

SB/32a fatal: DOS/32a environment variable not set up properly you need to reinstall DOS/32a Advanced DOS Extender on this computer

I have not installed it at all just unzipped it (as the post said I should) so what does it mean when it says that, what did I do wrong, and how can I fix it?

Okay I'm beyond this problem now and I am running the game problem now is there is no sound. I'm going to try and use VDMSound to overcome this.

Well that wasn't the answer and there is a bigger problem I think. The movies will not run either. The game opens with a big cinematic but it is not showing for me but jumping right to the bridge. I feel the problems are related. The sound is properly setup (I hear the voice in the setup.exe setup) but in the in game options it is greyed out as if it is not there.
Why do things never work for me in one go? Is it all so much to ask?

Data take a look at http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=6260 Futher irq 5 should be 7 for in dosbox.

The Niles At first the install did not recognize my DVD-ROM as being sufficiently fast (I hate it when games check your hardware. I'll be the judge of that). I have done what the DOSBox site suggests about copying the files to HDD and the game now starts up but it hangs on the splash screen. could it be that I have the made the wrong changes in the .ini?

here is the origional:

; Star Trek: The Next Generation, IBM Version.
Audio=None
Port=0x220
IRQ=0x5
DMA=0x1
Video=HI8
Sound=OFF
Music=OFF
Voices=OFF
Movies=OFF
Advice=0x0
VolMusic=0x7fff
VolSound=0x7fff
Dialogs=ON
Scale=ON
DPixel=OFF
Path=.
CD=.
UniVESA=OFF

and this is what I changed it to:

; Star Trek: The Next Generation, IBM Version.
Audio=SBPRO
Port=220
IRQ=5
DMA=1
Video=HI8
Sound=OFF
Music=OFF
Voices=OFF
Movies=OFF
Advice=0x0
VolMusic=0x7fff
VolSound=0x7fff
Dialogs=ON
Scale=ON
DPixel=OFF
Path=c:\STAFU.
CD=D:\.
UniVESA=OFF

No idea how to handle this any help welcome.

*********------------UPDATE------------**********

I ran the setup (rather then install) in DOSBox now and now have made it one step further. The game no longer hangs in the slash screen. Now it crashes directly after it. It says "sosDIGIInitDriver" and goes to DOS prompt. Any ideas?
