I'l bring this topic back up, because there has been a new twist in the tale.
I've finally got over the fact that I can still only use two hours a weekday and five hours a weekend day. I've also took a job and Im earning over 100€ a month, so I'l be getting a new (and my very own) computer possibly next winter. However, there is a new problem. As Im studying marketing and computers, I need computer so I could do some homework (over 10 pages of customer marketing stuff) and projects. However, I aint getting any extra hours for those projects. Mainly because "The sound of the computer is annoying/too loud" and "Youre using it too much already". Bleh. |
Explain that if they want you to succesfully complete your studies you must have enough time to complete the homework and projects, or otherwise they'll be responsible for your failure.

For work computer you only need about 400 - 500EUR. i saw nice Accer notebooks with preloaded Ubuntu for 400EUR. Anyway interesting combination of study you have there. I so much wish i could do this course. I had Marketing and Marketi communications (advertising, PR etc). But it didnt' have enough computers involved or programming. I think i would greatly benefit if those skillz would be more evolved during my study. at least i could do some web design or something. |
You really should convince your parents that a pencil and a mechanical typewriter were OK in their days (rather the only things available), but that's over and you need to use computers.
But I'm afraid they would still be concerned to control when are you playing and when are you working. |
They refused to give me extra time. Threatening them with failure didnt work.
EDIT: And she's (mother) doing the "Its all about the computer. Its soooo important to you. You care about nothing elseblahblahblahblahblaaah"-speech. Yech. |
You gotta see their side of the dime, dude. You mom probably don't and won't understand the importance of "that lump of metal on yer desk", because she just doesn't get the "new world order". Talk to her, that your computer is necessary to complete your studies, hone your skillz in other areas...etc. I had my own fight with my parents back in the day, but they soon realized that I'm right, and they were just growling at the thing after that, but did not limit my compy usage :)

I just did and it was waste of time.
She's telling me that I should concentrate on school (she's telling me that a lot, not matter what Im doing), rather than I should play games, so instead of the extra hours for school work, I should be using my two hours for doing them. I only have the two hours to play games. Its one of the things I really like and its one of the few things where Im best at. Gaming is my passion and my life. I do understand that I need to concentrate on education, but Im sure I dont have to spent my free time on studies. EDIT: Maybe this has got something to do with her education. She was once in gollege, but he dropped out, claiming that It "just wasnt for her" and now she's an unemployed housewife and a mother of four kids with health problems. |
Then ask her if she wants you to end up like she did.

[/b][/quote] I second that. He might just achieve the exact opposite with that statement... On the other hand TC, you can try some different approaches. Instead of just playing games, you can try other things. You can make music, try photoshopping, write your own novel, try making something with architecture programs (I had fun trying to make our own house in 3D Home Architect a while back). And the best in all this, you can say it's for a school project. I myself like to make music in FL Studio, or doodle away in Photoshop making wallpapers and such. And there is my novel too. You can try making animations or other Flash stuff, it's fun. I think this might even please your mom, that you are learning something on the computer that might even be your job someday, and those are useful skills to have for you too :ok: The other thing, if you really only want to play games, is a bit tough cookie. You have to stay vigilant and firm. Play your games, and don't let yourself bothered by anybody. Don't answer to her, don't do anything when she freaks out, simply ignore her. Soon, she will give up to try to get you away from the computer. This, however, will have a huge impact on your family relationships, so only use when nothing else left. |
