I dont like it as soon as i enter any space with those enemies one shot and im dead , and the voices are rather annoying :P , could do with a better combat system i feel.

Thanks for the upload though

just line up the crosshairs and fire when they go orangey triangley! also make sure you're trying to shoot the bad guy ;)
yeah the combat seems rather 'hands off' there are games with much better combat in space.. but in terms of scanning and navigating and trading its seems a lot of fun.. like you would imagine a real spaceship to be. a real spaceship would just have a computer do all the combat, so i guess they stopped short of that at least ;)

well, this isn't a simulation, you know ^_^ , the combat is simple, but easy. I, I mean, just think of spacecraft. you need two things. first, to win in space, you need skill, "Wing commander" is perfect example. second, you need good ship and weapons, "Wing commander" and "Project nomad" is perfect examples. while (at least i think so) "starwars x-wing collectors addition" need skill, "Project nomad" need weapons, and "Wing commander"- both (if you don't know how to fight, you never stand a chance against jhaltky (or how they're called :whistling: ...), but, if you don't have good weapons, how do you expect to destroy kilrathi battle cruiser?).

This is one of those games that had so much potential and was developed with so much love and care yet came out full of bugs and sheer unplayable parts.....god, I wish they'd worked on it for another year before releasing it....... :(

They wanted to blitz the market with a large number of titles in one year. Part of an effort to gain name recognition, where releasing one or two titles per quarter wouldn't have done as much. And that makes a kind of sense, except that those titles have to be really, really good, as well. They weren't polished enough, just as you point out.

Their PR unfortunately was also poor. I remember that department being annoying and unresponsive to requests for review product, even though at the time I was an editor for one of the US game magazines. They wanted a guarantee of a positive review--if you can believe that.

Well, actually, today I *could* believe it, since I know such shoddy practices go on. But back then? No way. We point blank refused.

Sorry, never got around to making any sort of FAQ. And by now I've forgotten enough that it probably wouldn't be very useful. D:

I haven't played this game but I just read the description and these comments and I have to wonder..
How close is this to Space Rangers 2 (a 2005 game from Russia with low system req)? SR2 has 2d space with top-down view but otherwise the similarities are striking. Half a dozen races to pick from, "open-ended" universe to haul stuff, run missions and quests, probe uninhabited planets for stuff and of course, the main goal of eliminating an invading mechanical race with superior firepower that has several "leaders" which can be neutralized in multiple ways, not just by blowing them to bits.

Not so similar I'd say. You can only play one race here - human, but you meet other races (their number is limited though - if I remember correctly there are some 15 races maximum). The number of planets is also limited (and you neededn't travel to all of them). The number of missions is also limited. Once you get close to the end there is only one standing mission left - to keep destroying enemy ships, but the game can end if you take out the enemy master computer - you can deactivate it or destroy its ship.

But then again, there are several games where you need to travel, trade, collect and destroy things in order to progress (and quite a large number of them is set in space).

You can just play the game for yourself and see how much it is (or is not) like SR2 (which I haven't played, so it's not so easy to compare).

Hello Folks, Since I have been playing this game pretty much since it first came out (yes I still have an original copy in the box-disks & manual) I would like to contribute some missing info.
For instance no-one from what I can see mentions the Proto-Uni Translator for communicating with the Shaasa. I will attach a doc with useful info and continue to watch the postings.
