Thanks for everyone that tried to help but the problem is solved.I had two problems: the VDMSound version was not updated and i was dumb enough to not update it . Thanks anyway.

BTW the game is awesome.Five stars sci-fi.

Alright, I've read all 10 of these pages and still can't get this thing working.

I've tried running it on dosbox and VDMSound.

With dosbox, I can actually get the game to run, but I get an error after I start a new game from the main menu. The error log says:
BBERROR: ERRORSTACK START:--------------
Sound: AIL error : XMIDI sound hardware not found

With VDMSound, I can set and save my sound options, but I can't get past the "no cd" problem. I've tried right clicking on every .exe and every .bat and choosing "run with VDMS" but to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it looks like you have wrong midi selected. when using dosbox, you need to set your soundblaster first. run setup first, set "ad lib music card or 100% compatible" for music and "creative labs SB pro or 100% compatible" for sound card.

I found a "cheat" (well, not really a cheat, but somewhat alike) what does not seem to be documented anywhere - yet - ! ;)

So this is it:

Well, Sira, and Mellthas are inseperable. Is that a problem? Well, why on the Earth would be if they together make a deadly combination (for some enemies)! :)

You need two things: Sira's Frost Avalanche maxed out, and Mellthas Demon Exodus (it looks like it works fine even without developing it to the maximum). And of course an area with loads of demons (For example the enemy 'Animal 3' who in large quantities are quite deadly otherwise, but give lots of experience if defeated).

If you found the right spot to gain that experience, place everyone in the back row (you will definitely regret it if you forget this critical step if you want to use the method against demons which you would avoid like plague otherwise. Even if you max out Sira's speed with a speed amulet, the enemies may still be faster!). Then in the first round, cast Sira's frost avalanche, and, if there are enough monsters so that you can make sure a row will hit some, Mellthas' Demon Exodus. The next rounds use Mellthas's Demon Exodus only: the maxed out Frost Avalanche should make the enemies frozen for (including the cast round) three rounds, so Mellthas may banish three rows of demons. Some may remain, those are up to you how you get rid of them (Another Frost Avalanche, or if you feel your party strong enough, 'simply' beat).

Note that although the method is certainly expensive on spell points, the magicians may even work it out from their life points if you wish to save on potions (especially for Mellthas, then Sira may heal him, or Harriet later). But as a reward in some areas with this it is possible to get loads of experience :)

(I tried out this mostly in Umajo, before going to the Toronto. Accidentally i gone down to the Equipment Makers' guild's prison since i though the story continues there, but appearantly not. Anyways i gained at about 5 to 6 levels down there eliminating demons, to the end Tom was at lv. 30, Sira at 29, Drirr at 28. I do not know the rest now. I hope i did not mess up down there anything what would make further progress later impossible forcing me to throw away that save with those loads of exp. :P )

Please, could someone tell me the controls? I can't figure out how to "search" or open doors or anything like that. I really want to play this game it looks filled with retro-awesomeness.

  • Space
  • Enter

  • Alt
:ok:

This game had great storytelling, great story, and great graphics and graphical perspective.

The combat system was totally lame an monotonous though. This almost should have been an adventure game instead, IMHO.

This game is absolutely AWESOME. I don't know how I first heard about it, but it has been one of my favourite games (if not THE favourite) for many years.

I own the German version. If anybody wants to practise German as a foreign language using this game, drop me an e-mail (junesun at gmx dot net)and I'll find a way to get you the German version.

Great game. Here's what I found.

To make albion accept the CD:

Type in DosBox "mount -t cdrom d DosBox's_Dos_Folder/path_to_albion".

However:

In DosBox, I can't see the intro movie, and the game is very slow WITH a cpu boost!

Small correction:

Type in DosBox "mount -t cdrom d DosBox's_Dos_Folder/path_to_albion/CD".
