can somebody plz tell me WHY i cant download this thing??!
|
Because ESA demanded this site to remove the game for download. They want to keep the copyrights on this game themselves.

I got U8 on my first PC, on 1994. It was a red CD with Ultima8, Syndicate Plus, Strike Commander and Wing Commander II. But I was too young, and never made many things on the game. but, last year, I've download the game and a patch to run U8 on WinXP (it wasn't DosBox). I've play the game without sound and very slow (the patch wasn't so good), but I finish the game! After 10 years! It's a great game! I recommendo for everyone.

PS.: someone have the "Lengendary" red Cd with U8, Sundicate Plus, Strike Commander and Wing Commander II? I have this since 1994, and the manual too!
|
Well, I have the legendary CD of Ultima 8 only, in a orange flamepainted package with the pentagram and the gamename written above, and the CD is half-red, half-black, with Pyros coming out of his lava circle on the red side. It doesn't contain a patch, is the original version with the arcade jumping.

i downloaded it but couldn't play it, a 16-bit ms-dos app error it says, wonderin if it's coz i'm using XP but.... can anyone help?

Of course playing Ultima 8 in Windows XP is the worst thing possible. This game is buggy enough already, and trying to play it in any Windows version will make it crash before starting. Play it in DosBox instead, you can get to it's download site through a link on this site, at the Programs section. Don't forget to increase the CPU cycles in DosBox (CTRL-F12 or edit dosbox.conf) to at least 8000 when playing the game, otherwise it will be little too slow.

I got this game from a friend back in 1994 and loved it but it was really daunting in size and options. I was just starting to learn English back then, and a lot of the books I could only half read, which had a serious impact on the background of the story. Not to mention that I never actually got out of the city because it was so big :P
I really need to replay this - tested all Ultima games on DOSBOX yesterday (succesfully except for Akalabeth which won't work) so that's a good thing :). I still need to play Ultima IX - vastly underrated, even if it's buggy in places. |
