a bath of blood. Like Mel Gibsonīs films. Only for fans of epic massacre.
PD: History say that Leonidas have more than 50 years old and the spartans were more than 700. |
Epic massacre is always fun for the whole family.

Well I watched it yesterday. I though that I would like it better, because I liked Sin City, but it was hardly okay, not good I'd say. What I expected was a visual spectacle, and that's what it was, in part. That part was the good one, the scenes with the soldiers performing impossible athletic exploits and choreographically hacking the enemies' flesh off, filmed in variable motion --yes it may be war-pornographic so don't take your children. :D And no it was nothing like The Lord of the Rings. It might be similar to Kill Bill, but nothing near Peter Jackson's crappy crap.
But that was it, the rest of the movie was pretty dull and got me bored after a while. The script is too detached to actual history for my taste. I read Herodotus years ago and I recently saw the movie which inspired this Miller's comic, it's called The 300 Spartans I think; it's unusually faithful to the literary source --and we're talking about Herodotus not Stephen King-- but 300 is not. Also solemn speeches can be compelling, provided they are indeed so, but alas there's no Shakespeare among the scriptwriters of nowadays, duh. And you shouldn't make a whole movie out of speeches only anyway, and making the actors shout all the time or speak all somber won't make it any more enjoyable. I'm not saying the actors are to blame for this overacting, they're not, the director is. Plus I disliked the abuse of voice-over in this movie. As unlikely as it may sound, in my opinion Sin City managed to be way more epic. About the homo part well, whatever, if you got turned on that's not a crime, I didn't. You gotta see actual Spartans preparing for battle back at the time, sure they wore full armor during the battle, but beforehand they used to dance and practice gymnastics and comb their long long hair. Fully naked. Quote:

I saw it last night and I thought it was quite good.
Some of the shots during the battles were beautiful; I thought the fighting was elegant. As far as the other plots going on in the movie...eh...not so great. The Spartans were freaking insane, that's all I have to say. If I saw a group of 300 trained killers half naked charging at me with their war cry I would probably piss myself and curl into the fetal position. As far as the homo-eroticness of the movie, I disagree. Historically, the Spartans fought wearing only a cloak and harness for weapons, if even that. In other words, they fought pretty much naked except for their shield and helmets. The Spartans were known for their lightning speed and ferocity, not heavy armor like their Athenian Greek rivals. It is likewise conspicuous that the Athenian navy is missing from this version of the story of the battle of Thermopylae, let alone that more than one other Greek city state was represented in the battle overall. I think those who say it's homo-erotic are the same people who say there was too much homosexual tension in Lord of the Rings between Frodo and Sam, and Pippin and Merry. They don't understand the concept of brotherhood. |
Hey! I know in ancient Greece there were special units of soldiers that were gay. And I'm serious about this, they are historically reported. They worked with couples of soldiers that were actually lovers and every one of them was charged with the defense of the other. It seems they were terrible fighters. And I repeat it, I'm totally serious about this.
I wonder, did they take prisoners? |
