Having this game would be good, as it's been reviewed for Abandoned Times.

Mexbrush looks like they have the game, so we could ask them..? Though I'm sure that others may be quicker with a reliable archive. :)

I will be back tomorrow and will check my archive then... I think it is working one. I will report in a few days

Archive is working one and is now uploaded on FTP. I don't remember where I got this archive, I surely downloaded it from somewhere and I surely didn't download it from HOTU, but it does have HOTU's manual. I uploaded this manual since it contains copyright codes needed to save/load the game. Also i contains a save called "Vikings historical" that you can load and get a start of the game similar to historical situation.

We could try to find manual scan for this game without HOTU signature or perhaps someone still has an original manual...

Do you need the territory names somewhere else than at the top of the territory information scrolls? Because I've cracked the copy protection by deleting the territory names.

Didn't follow rule #1 for cracking: Looking if the game is cracked already...

But I can change it similar to the attached screenshot. Without the bracketed sentence, of course.

And it works fine afterwards? You can save and load without problems?

It is good then... you can even sign ABANDONIA CREW :)

What did you do? Used some hex-editor to find names? Also is this really better than having un-cracked game with manual? Perhaps you changed only one file...

Luchsen 23-09-2009 12:57 PM

Wow, that's a mean copy protection. So it was not cracked before. But my changes seem to work. :D

Yes, I used a hex editor. :) (There is not enough space to sign it, though.)

I'm for uncracked games with manuals, but we have no manual atm and people always complain when they have to switch to a document every time they start a game. (For me, it belongs to the gaming experience. It's only annoying when you test something.)

I don't understand what you mean with your last sentence. (Yes, I changed only one file.)

Well, IMO it is best to have uncracked game with crack (so people can use crack if they want) and with manual too. This way we provide everything. I'm not sure if manual with HOTU's signature is strictly prohibited, but if we don't find better one (which will hardly happen) then I'm for uploading uncracked archive, manual and the file you changed. That file can be zipped into crack.zip and we will put note in review saying that if you want to crack the game, just unzip crack.zip into game directory and overwrite the previous file. We should perhaps state that you will loose names of territories.

So, that way we have both uncracked version with manual and crack for persons that like cracked versions better.

Luchsen 23-09-2009 06:01 PM

Sure. Like with replacementdocs, we can link to HOTU for the manual.

Luchsen 24-09-2009 12:30 PM

The crack is on FTP.

Saccade 24-09-2009 01:56 PM

I have the manual as a text document.
I can put it somewhere if you need it.

Losing the territory names, if you know them from playing, isn't a big problem.
To start, though, I imagine it would be infuriating...
