Yeahhhh* :ok:* xoopx got the point, you should by some stufff for your ship to have some goodies* :max:
If you can't land, you can't trade. Once you're dead, opportunities for capitalism vanish. :D I may give it a try again, but to be honest, there's so much else to do, and so many games to try in the little time I have available, that I suspect I'll pass. At the moment, the urge to play a heavily modded game of BG2 is upon me, and I'm strongly considering a run-through of Romance of the Three Kingdoms III.

But my comments are not meant to prevent anybody else from playing the game. As I mentioned above, many oldtime gamers have fond memories of this title, so obviously quite a few people had no problems with the arcade-like landing and maneuvering aspects of it.

its easy to land just practice!!

the sound isnt just internal speaker sound!

use dosbox and select "adlib"

adlib is basically a yamaha opl synth chip.. cool sounds!

Hmmm... whilst this game was great at the time, it has aged pretty badly.

That said, I am hooked on what is basically a modern remake called Freelancer. I just love the way that you can go go anywhere and do what you like (even destroy whole battleships if you really must :D)

But then again, there is a time when you just have to say 'Hmm... this is unfortunately now completely cack compared to how I remembered it.'

It's a shame, really, as I used to play this game like... all day.

there is a 154MB open source game VGA Strike or somethign - available from sourceforge.net

Needs a modern system to run but its an advanced stage development wise and great to play

arc-elite 05-01-2005 01:25 AM

About two years ago i played some version of elite called arc-elite,supposedly the best version because of occurences like pirates attacking the starbase you launched from and ships coming in groups with heavy cargo ships being protected by fast ships etc..

it was really interesting, difficult to control but i must say better then PC versions. Also had this strange atmosphere or computer's long past by now.

guide to install here

I used to play Frontier: Elite 2 on my Amiga 1200 but i don't remember Elite Plus?

There was an AutoPilot which would take you to the planet/space station and land for you.

Is this the game i used to play or is Frontier: Elite 2 different?

goblins 05-01-2005 02:19 AM

elite plus was the elite 1 - elite 2 frontier was a sequel that was realised in the early 90s if i remember correctly - should still be able to play using dosbox.

On elite plus trying to find the space station is always the difficult thing
