I believe i nthe Jewsih religion or something all meat (ham, etc) you arnt supposed to eat (not only on christmas...ever!) Except fish which i believe has something to do with Jesus turning water into wine and making 1 fish and one loaf of bread turn into thousands of fishies and breadies. Something like that..

But as far as I know, it is only during the LEnt you aren't supposed to eat red meat, only fish. And I guess that that was lately relaxed, because then it was only the thursday and friday before eastern that you aren't supposed to eat red meat, only fish... but never heard of it related to christmas. But well, I come from a catholic background (even though I am myself an atheist), but maybe your countries come from different christian traditions, with different food observations...
