a bit late, but:

On the equipment screen just click on F5 to change the weaponset until it changes to Original X-Com Set. The new weapons are to allow for more variety in gameplay (though they're pretty similiar) and also a step in breaking away from X-Com (this means not needing UFO/TFTD installed to get it to run, NOT abandoning the X-Com concept).

I couldn't get the server I set up on my computer to accept connections, so we'll have to use the official one. here are the first pairs:
