Yes, that's right. Somewhere around 18th-19th century Australia was mainly used to send in criminals in there. They supposed to be used on working the land and plant anything. Instead they just often broke out and settled down there, so the country wasn't safe in these times.

The convicts were not slaves. They were free to settle the land but they where not allowed to return to Brittain. Anyway this is getting off topic so please go back on topic.
