My PC freezes completely when playing the game. Gameplay is actually ok, but after a while... *poof* the screen just turns black and nothing happens anymore.
Had that too, but not when playing in windowed mode, only in fullscreen under DosBox.

I have this game on diskettes. It rocks. There should be more scenarios and the 3D isometric was good for those days. The AI is somewhat weak, because it does not pressure you, but even so give it a try. You'll enjoy it.

Make sure your citizens do not become ill at the start, otherwise you'll be in big trouble.

I remember this one. I even still have the CD. Of course I can't even get the install shell to run, even in DosBox. I suppose since there are people not complaining about such problems that wouldn't be a problem with the download.

I reviewed the game when it first appeared. The isometric 3D look was nice, and the world-building aspects actually took some time to master. But as I recall, the AI was truly terrible, and the game did very poorly.
Wasn't there some kind of patch that improved the AI somewhat? I thought I read that on some other abandonware site once.

After reading the manual from HOTU, it seems that Genesia and Ultimate Domain're slightly different games. Seems that Ultimate Domain has a slightly better interface, and some parts're more elaborate, like the barracks having three rooms, the temple two, etc. I'm quite curious for that version :D

I just tried windowed mode but it doesnīt help much. The computer still somewhat freezes but in windowed mode you can at least shut the program down and everything works fine again then. Takes some time though since every action is slowed down quite a bit.

But probably thatīs not a general problem. No one else seems to complain about such a thing here.

I'll mention it on the DosBox forum on Reloaded when I'm back, later tonight.

Was the review by you? I was kinda looking for who reviewed it
Hi Kon-Tiki,

I reviewed Genesia this time around. Sent it to Kosta a little while ago. Just to clear up the mystery!

Overall it's not a bad game but yes the AI is terrible once you understand how everything works. But initally you'll think that it cheats.

Also I might add that I use DFend to run all of my dos games. So most of the problems that everyone here seems to be facing could be ironed out bar one.

It seems that if you play the game in full screen mode your notice issues with the music. That is to say it stutters from time to time. But in windowed mode I had no problems.

I must try harder to find my Ultimate Domain CD as it has a PDF of the manual on it.
