I don't get why everyone marks out for dune two. Sure the game was innovative but there are so many amazing games that just blow it out of the water. The only reason it seems people like it is because it is free,

The reason people like it is because it's still more entertaining than a variety of strategy games still available now.

It's a very simple model with good quick battles that require some thought, but it doesn't try to confuse you with complex systems or extreme rock-paper-scissor type balancing.
It's the same reason that people still play Doom, it's simple and its fun.
