You probably need to switch it to a different keyboard layout or remap the inputs using its built-in remapper.

I would say Ö (Shift+ö), but when you came as far as when you need a colon, then you have your backslash at the right key, so your keyboard can't be German.

or you can simply open dosbox.conf in notepad, and add the command "keyb gr" at the end then your keyboard is switched to german

Guys, hello.
Well,
I m an italian boy, and I hope you will help me because on italian s forum there s nothing about it. I wrote also on a Russian forum after this, but nobody could help me.
I saw in this topic that so many players had my problem with construcotor.

I start the game with Dosbox, and I play it.
Now the game works, but when I click on a home or on the QG apperas me this error : constructor unable to spool file .\flics\hsehomeb.flc
I saw you upload some files that are not online.
Well, In italy it s the 3 00 am, and I m desperate, I hope you will help me.
Please, please, please.
Make it for pizza and spaghetti, su su.
Sorry for the apostrof, but after I used dosbox i change my keybord from the italian to the english one, and now I m not able to retrive it XD

Ciao e grazie.

How to solve the problem with "spool files" in the constructor game

2 DeathRockBoy and others

If you have any problems with the *.flc (video) files, you should just start the game, go to the Settings menu, and TURN OFF the "Display All Video Animations" option.

OR you can seek for the video files on the internet, they've got a size of ~150mb.

For all the people having trouble, this is how I got it to work:

Okay, I have had ALL of the issues with running the game mentioned on pages 1 through 25 or so. (I grew tired of reading mass "HALP! I CAN HAZ CONSTRAXTOR IN XP??!!" posts, so skipped the last pages)...

...but this is how I got it to work:

First of all, I have a pentium 4 2.4GHz with 1.5GB RAM, and some sort of semi-decent graphics card from 2001 or so. And I run Windows XP.

Second, I _USED_ to run win98 SE back in the day, so I still have my product key and backup of the disc.

I know my way around in DOSbox, but this game would either get choppy sound when I increased the CPU cycles too much, or it would lag terribly or hang completely when placing buildings over large areas when I decreased the CPU cycles to where the sound would be acceptable (but still choppy).

I simply downloaded the microsoft virtual machine trial (google it) and set up a win98 virtual, then installed from my CD backup. Shared my oldgames folder on the network, and made sure the virtual machine was in the same workgroup.

Now, I could access constructor in my virtual machine window, and simply double-click "game.exe" to run the game without lag, and with perfect sound!

The game still crashed the first time I tried, but setting "display all video animations" to "no" in the game options seems to have resolved this completely, as I have now built my brick yard, and still haven't had problems.

--- See below for gameplay hints that I remember from playing before ---
