Personally I prefer my floppy external, but in public they'll ask you to put it away if you do that. So for the most part I only pull out the external floppy if it's going to get used.

(Yeah these jokes are recherchés... One should look carefully which thread he's stepping. :whistling: )

When you're on the way that is... Or when you're on holidays....

You should also remember to put some (write-)protection on your floppy if before you stick it in a strangers' drive... otherwise you could end up with a virus...

Any recommendations on input devices in general? Any 'must have' or 'stay clear'?

And about the fat, I'll go for the fat32 rather than the fat16. For me, that is not an issue anymore. Sure, in my early days, the fat16 would do the works, but now that the world have moved forward, fat32 is better. I think I'll wait a good while before going for the fat64, if that turns up as an option.

Do you guys remember how prone floppies were to developing faults over time? And some were just made that way, but you didn't notice until later. I always ended up replacing my favourite transfer floppy every now and then.

CDs are so much better. That just shows you how much better it is to rely on optical devices' input, rather than in blind "magnetism". ;)

I think any fat device will be absolutely suitable.
The opticals still are very important....
