I have the same problem with the protection codes, and I had to go to a different site to get the English version. They give you the protection codes also, but the picture is extremely low quality and I can hardly tell which was which. If anyone knows where to get some good protection codes or a good crack, please help out!

You can put the squared piece of the teleporter near the elevator. That will give you a insane jump start!!

DAMN I LOVE THIS GAME! It was one of the first PC games I ever bought, and I played it obsessively to the end. Thanks for the nostalgia. However, the PC version was always a little unstable, and I never could get the videos to work, so for a flawless experience I would recommend getting a Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis (or emulator thereof).
