I have a question and no clue if this has been asked before :tomato: :

Could it be done that you can click on the screenshots for a game on AB to get an bigger image?
Or is it one of AB's policies not to provide screenshots larger than X*Y ? (X and Y are the set variables)

Sometimes I feel that the shots are a bit tiny.

Thanks for any replies! :ok:

Actually, the screen shots, most of them anyways, are full size right there. Most of these games ran in 320x240. Unfortunately 320x240 on a 1024x768 (or higher) tends to look small. To do what you're asking you'd need to double, triple, or more the pixels of the original immage.

But, for the most part, every pixel of the original screen is right there in your browser, barely taking up 1/6 of your screen.

Almost 80% of the games on the site were made using a 320x240 resolution - which is exactly what we showcase them in ;)

There are a couple of games that uses 640x480, but they are really few. Then there is also the games that uses different resolutions in the same game. Like Veil of Darkness and Uncharted Waters 2: New Horisonz.

The only screens we resize on the site - are those very few that have a width of over 320. The rest are shown at their actual size.

No need in creating a "see a bigger screen" for those few games that fall outside the 320 margin.

Edit:
guesst beat me to it :bleh:

So streching them would probably make them look crappy and that isn't worth the effort 'cause you had to check over and over...
Hmm... Too bad.
I just thought about the possibility that you could do like
image-size: 200% (or higher(in CSS)) but the page is in PHP and I don't know PHP(yet).

Well, if the image has a too small resolution it probably won't work anyways.

Thanks for your time! :ok:

Actually. The screens which are actually 320x240 won't look that crappy when you boost them. Pixels will become more obvious off course, but as long as you make sure you double the dimensions and not use margins like 123% everything will still look pretty ok.

check Mobygames for instance. They use blown up images. When you download their pics, you can see they are actually 320x200 or 320x240 :)

Yeah, but the 320 one shows all the detail just as well. Making a scrip that would blow them up to double size is just pointless if you ask me.

Maikel 31-05-2006 10:25 AM

except that I cant see them that well on my 1600x1200 resolution :D

Icewolf 31-05-2006 10:29 AM

Don't get me wrong.
I don't wanna improve the screenshot I want to enlarge it.
No matter if I get better details. Just for having a closer look.
That sometimes happens when cards of strategy or sim games are shown.
But most of time the provided screenshots are absolutely sufficient! :ok:

I'd have to disagree with you on this Kosta. If you could do it as a script that dynamicly enlarged the screenshot without having to store more screenies on the system, I'd say that seems like a low cost easy way to give those with higher resolutions a closer look. The only down side is if the picture was scaled down the scaled up would be a scaled up of the scaled down, maybe not as good.

But still, if you could do this with a script, I say that sounds like a good idea.

Well, actually its even easier than that. I can just force double size inside the html img tag and the browser will do exactly the kind of resizing we are talking about here... it would be dead easy.... but I'm thinking 90% of users will be quite surprised to find simply a scaled-up version of the same screenshot after clicking on it...

Well, yes and no. Sorry, I'm being the devil's advocate here, but those who run up their resolution so the screen shots are about the size of a thimble may appreciate it.

Not that it matters to me. If I want to see the game bigger I download and run it.

Guess we need a poll then? Let the public decide? :)

some browser support zooming by themselves.
Perharps people who want zoomed images should install such a browser instead of making
website masters implement lot's of junk
