Review and Download (if available) |
I remember playing this on the Amiga yeeeeeaaaarrrrssss ago. As I recall, I was unable to save the game for some reason, a bug in my copy or the like. There would be only so far you could get before dying, and there was one part (I think involving that mean looking guard in a doorway in the review screenshot) that always killed me. After trying several times to get past, I gave up. Playing through an hour's worth of game just to try something new at the same point ... nah!
It will be great to see what was beyond that door though. How far the world has come eh? |
You mean the 6th screenshot? If so, I don't think you are supposed to kill the guard. I don't remember since I played this a long time ago, but if you are at the point of saving the apothecary girl (I forget her name), then you can pass the guard by transforming yourself into Serena (or Selena? I mean that witch). If you are stuck, you can always consult a walkthrough (search for it with google), unless you really don't want to use walkthrough at all.
|
I'm not stuck now, I was stuck *then* and with no way to save. This was before new-fangled interweb and all that loud pop music that you young'uns seem to like. No, I had to track through the whole sodding game just to try that another way of getting past that guard ... if I can save it now, I won't need a walkthrough. Point and click adventures are something I am good at, just so long as I can save it occasionally. Fricking fracking Amiga ... *mutter*
|
Ah, I see... I missed the part you told us about playing the Amiga version. Well, with this PC version I'm sure you can save. Have fun playing :ok:
|
I could save fine in my copy... maybe you should have bought it instead of warezing it? ;)

Too bad I can't find the bung nor the lard in the castle's cellar and kitchen. |
Uhm, I'm not getting any sound when I play this game... :eeeeeh: ?
*I'm running it in DOSbox* *edit* Another thing that I noticed. There is supposed to be a tinderbox in the blacksmith's smithy. Sometimes it just isn't there and the only way I've googled up to make it appear is to restart the game... *sigh* |
Hi,
Love the game but am stuck trying to find the magician! Have talked to EVERYONE! Still no luck. |
Well you can't really find the magician, but you can enter his house and get the magic spells neede. Thel the jester to unlock the doors for you.
|
I can't get throo the game it's so hard how can i pass the guard it's so hard i don't understand nothing and were is the magician
|
You don't need to find the magician, you need to enter his house. In there you will be able to turn yourself into the evil queen (or what she was) and pass the guard!
You know, you really could look for a walkthrough (they're all around the net)... |
ok i enterd the magicians house then what i found an apparatus and then ...

:help:
Hi, I click on Lure.exe and then it appears a BLACK WINDOW. After that, I can't do anything but to switch off my computer. Could you help me, please? I played this game when I was a little girl and I really loved it. |
I can't kill the monster in the cave. It's so difficult (and I've heard it's a piece of cake). Does anyone know how many times I have to hit him in order to win?

I remeber Finishing the game and that part its quite hard I believe you have to hit him quite abit but im not sure on an exact number. |
I remember that it wasn't just "click to hit", there was some sort of combat system present. Don't remember exactly, though...
A moment please, Googling for it... Found here Quote:

hey, i need to know how to pass the first stage!
|

I'm sorry, but that seems to be one of the bugs of the game. It happened to me twice as well. Unfortunately haveing save games doesn't help as they seem to store the problem and the tinderbox won't appear either.

Yeah, um, that'll happen if you run windows 2000, XP, Vista. Get Dosbox and use that, It'll work then I know because I played it using the Dosbox program. Hope this helps! |
:wallbash: Can someone PLEASE tell me where the tinderbox is?. I have looked in the blacksmiths shop and started and restarted the game again and again but no go. I can't make the magic potion without the tinderbox to light the gadget in the magicians house. HELP
|
:brain: Its OK I started yet again and found the tinderbox.. Now how do I get the monster in the cave..Sal

Is there a way to get proper sound for this game? For example, pulling the torch in the beginning just sounds like hitting a piano tangent. I remember playing the amiga version some time ago and having very good background sound effects.
|
Configure the game to use Sound Blaster for sound effects.
|
Hi, I had the same question. The sound is Roland. Just Instruments no real noises. I thought already that i have to configure to soundblaster sound. But how is it done ? In my Lure game-folder there is only Disk1-4.vga, savegame.dta, lure.exe ..... no setup or install file.
|
FWIW I successfully played Lure (including sound) with a recent version of SCUMMVM. Note that SCUMMVM uses its own interpreter (based upon the original source code, I think), thus that does not say much about getting sound with the original executable, but why use Dosbox when you can use SCUMMVM?
|
Playing this in scumm was the only way for me to finish the game, I played it with dosbox and couldnt get pass the point when you look into the shop window to watch the skorl talking with the shop owner.
However there was a other bug at the end, could finish it anyway tho. I dont know if this is becuz of dosbox and scumm of if this is just a buggy game. Still a great game! |
The game is kind of short. Most of the time I spent finding my way in the city, which at the beginning I found frustrating (took me a while till I found the forge, haha) and I have even made a map.
Lure of the Temptress Town Map  It has some problems here and there. The last one was that at the end when you had to distract the guard with the wine in the cellar. Each time I talked with Minnow and sent him to the guard to say that there's someone in the cellar, the guard never came. In the end I just entered the guard room and passed near him as if he doesn't see me. And it worked !:) It's a good game, but obviously short. Has some funny moments too, but the funniest I think is when you order Ratpouch to push the bricks and he destroys all the wall, in contrast with your character, Diermot, who couldn't even budge a single brick. |
Hi all,
I love this game. It's sad though, it crashes on me no matter what i try. Linux with Dosbox, scummvm, i even tried playing the GOG version under Windows! It's always at the same moment. I talk to the monks. Then I am waiting for Malin to come around, for the monk's book. And he either never shows, or the game crashes. Anyone had that happen? Thanks Total Anarchy for the town map! You is right, it takes a lot of time to find yuor way around the city, at least for me it did. I started my own map but then I got stuck in the game and gave up. |
Let's Play: Lure of the Temptress
If anybody is interested, I made a Let's Play of this game (having no sound in DOSBox, I added some atmospheric music). Here's the playlist:

Once upon a time I desperatly looked after some new thing to play, and layed hand on this. Since then I think twice before buying a game.
I long wanted to try out a game where NPCs "live" their own life. Now here it proved itself pure frustrating. The addable commands AND the helper of the protagonist AND the random movement of the NPCs REALLY turned this game a big timewaster and added more to the frustration-factor. In the end I just gave up after countless trial to do something with the magician's alchemy-machine or what. Never got beyond the guarded door. This game sucks, worst game of all time. If you ever bother with it, use walkthrough (when it was first sold internet didn't exist, so if you got stucked, you got stucked, end of story). |
It works well with DOSBox and munt emulators. There is normal sound effects and MT-32 music but is there any way to setup this game?
