I was wondering if Lucas arts was ever going to Put out their old adventure games in a complation pack kind of like sierra is doing now with some of their older popular sieries.

gregor 27-10-2006 10:57 AM

Ask lucas arts. Maybe they know.

leileilol 27-10-2006 03:21 PM

They definitely won't sell Sam & Max Hit the Road however.

HappyGamer 27-10-2006 05:07 PM

Why?

Cloudy 31-10-2006 02:10 PM

I sometimes see the Day of the Tentacle/Sam and Max double pack floating around in shops.

It depends on whatever contract arrangement they made with the creator of Sam & Max. If they have full rights in perpetuity, they can do with it as they like. If the rights are good only for the game's initial release, then they won't do anything with it in the future, because there's no love lost between LucasArts and the designer.

Anyone follows the latest lawsuits between the english guy who made the storm trooper uniform and Lucasfilms? It's hillarious. Lucas claim they have the copyright, but the guy claims he invented and made the uniform so he is alowed to sell it sicen they made no contract for it. :D

anyway... copyright system is stupid.
why? because the law is not being strictly enforced.
and why is that? because it simply can not be. therefore the system is flawed.
how so? because everytime you put on a CD in a car and pickup a hitchiker for example you are already breakign the law (or better he is). there is only one copy of music and since you bought it only you are allowed to listen to it. if the passanger wants to listen to the melody he needs his own copy (under the copyright law) of the CD.

it sucks, doesn't it?

noodles 07-11-2006 08:48 PM

and in a lot of countries picking up hitchhikers means breaking the law, too

:ok:

They should, now that The Culture Shock is available.

whatever. the passnager can be your familly member (which is even weirder) and they still are not allowed to listen to the music on your CD.

Err... I don't think hearing it in someone elses car constitutes a public performance, since that car is someone's private property. Now if you went and played in a public auditorium and charged people €5 for entering, then it'd be a public performance and you'd be breaking the law.

gregor 08-11-2006 12:39 PM

it doesn't have to be public performance. if he want's to hear it (use it) he has to have his own copy. sharing is not alowed.

and of course there is also a problem cause each country has different laws. but the basis of copyright is still that everyone that wan't to use the work (programme, music etc) needs to buy his own copy otherwise he is sharing or pirating. stupid.

sorry, but that's bullshit. :tai:

spider mastermind above you is totally right. no public performance or audition - no breaking of the law.
And I'm pretty sure germany has one of the strightest laws in the EU including slovenia.
and another interesting thing: If you copy your music on a casette there won't be any problems (at least in germany - the magic word here is gema) because there's a fee included in the price.

I quite often see Monkey Island 3 (unfortunatley not 1or 2) and the first Indiana Jones game that wasn't a point and click adventure (again unfortunately not 1 or 2) floating around game shops in Hong Kong. I remember seeing Grim Fandango last month too, but that my have been an old copy, not a re-issue.

I always keep my eyes open for that sort of thing when I'm there, it's like finding a diamond in a world full of zircona :)

JoM 20-11-2006 10:37 PM

I've still got my original Monkey Island II box, floppy disks (!) and the ingredient wheel thing you had to spin and enter the results into the game before you could play to make sure you weren't a pirate. (lol, pun definately intended)
I've also got my Monkey Island I disks and a counterfeit wheel I made out of 2 photocopies

The first LucasArts game I played was Monkey Island I and for me that was the definitive point and click game. Having never played Sam and Max or Day of the Tenticle, my view is slightly narrow but I don't care what you say; Guybrush Threepwood forever, baby!

TheChosen 21-11-2006 06:27 AM

:bleh: Im a proud owner of Monkey Island 3.

JoM 21-11-2006 07:07 AM

I've got all four and Grim Fandango.

Bobbin Threadbare 03-12-2006 01:24 PM

There's plenty of those things. Just not altogether.

I have all four Monkey Islands, GF and Loom.

JJXB 03-12-2006 01:30 PM

only old lucasarts adventure games i have legally are the sam+max/DOTT double pack and full throttle so far. and only other game is an old copy of dark forces lying around somewhere (which isn't even sold anymore afaik looking at their site)

Bobbin Threadbare 03-12-2006 01:41 PM

I have Dark Forces and X Wing vs. TIE Fighter and TIE Fighter and Lego™ Starwars. But I thought we were only talking about AGs.

I know what you mean, Guybrush kicks behind, but you should really try and find S&M and DOT, they are just as amazing as Monkey :ok:

Doddy 19-02-2007 11:58 PM

I've noticed recently that some of LucasArts games are being sold again, pretty cheap down at my local GameTraders and EB (AU$10), but a couple of years ago I was walking through somewhere (can't remember where) and I found a LucasArts (or LucasFilm as they were called) pack that had a few games in it, including the first two monkey island's, fullthrottle, an indian jones game and this game were you the sheriff walking through the classic western town.

I'm not sure if this Box set is still floationg around, but at the time it was a sure buy
