I would really love to have a huge "Who's the best player" competition, but I dont know how.

Any idea's?

Icewolf 07-12-2006 09:56 AM

I think this could end up in a huge photoshopping orgy of highscore lists with everybody adding several zeros to his or her highscroe!!! LOL

No, serious:
Maybe posting highscores? We'd need an online database that is only accessable by few people. :sneaky:

Then again this is huge effort for a simple little game...

Lulu_Jane 07-12-2006 10:06 AM

MMORPG, and we all start at the same time? Good Luck The Chosen :D

TheChosen 07-12-2006 11:16 AM

Oh gee! A good idea! Lets all go play Everquest! He who kills 50 squirrels, will be crowded as King Player!

(This is pure sarcasm)

Lulu_Jane 07-12-2006 11:48 AM

Sarcasm noted, dated and filed away for future referral ;)

Blood-Pigggy 07-12-2006 11:53 AM

Try to find a game everyone has, or anyone can get, such as FEAR Combat, or Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, set up a private server, then let anyone who wants to play join and play a series of games, starting with things such as Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, etc (team stuff) then filter down the good players and let them engage in Deathmatch, the winner is the best.

Simple and easy.

Cloudy 07-12-2006 12:01 PM

I'll take part! Although I'll probably lose and embarass myself, but hey ^_^

As long as it's a game I have, or can get easily.

troop18546 07-12-2006 12:38 PM

This will end up knowing who is good at one game from a small community with different hardware and connections. Project failed.

Is that not the whole point though?

If that was a problem nobody would ever play online games.

Glance back to see the thread's name: "best gamer". Doesn't say that someone is reffering to one game. It just indicates that there should be a person with all the wins in all the games. P.S. About the problem - everyone who plays online can just say that "it lagged" when they lose to an opponent, thus leaving you who's 20000 kilometres away to decide if it's true or false. Only way to decide at a winner on a competition like this is for everyone to love the same game and play via LAN. Enough said.

That would mean you'd take the gaming very, very serious.
I am an very ambitious person regarding my own performance, but if you start a game with the proposion that it's fun I don't take it serious.
EDIT: Ergo: I give a 5h17 when I die because of a silly lack, cause it's fun.

That'd only measure your competence at one game. To be the "Best Gamer" you'd need to have the best blend of l33t skills in everything from Quake 4, to Fury of the Furries, to Football Manager and so on.

Unless we can come up with an agreed list of representative games from each genre, and host and play them, the question can't really be answered.

chainsoar 07-12-2006 03:54 PM

Or how about we all play Soldat and I humiliate all of you.

Morrin 07-12-2006 04:06 PM

Let's play chess and I will make your life look worthless, and drive you to alcoholism and self mutilation

If I didn't have to go home in the next 15 minutes or so. I'd say "bring it on!"

That'd only measure your competence at one game.

That's what I wanted to say. This competition can only be for a particular game, not the Best Gamer of All type of thing.

@Morrin, dont make me laugh :P. You're lucky you lasted long enough to say that. In other words, I "pwn" at chess.

Luchsen 07-12-2006 07:08 PM

That was the old school way.

Blood-Pigggy 07-12-2006 07:10 PM

Um, isn't it easy to realize that you'd only join the competition if you were any good at that one game? Stop taking everything so literally.

Cloudy 07-12-2006 07:31 PM

Heh I'd join in even if I sucked!

Maybe we could look around for the oldest game we can find that's playable online :P

Wth are you talking about >>
A. People do it for fun, I'd do it even thou I've never played FEAR before.
B. Your idea still doesn't work, only proves the person is good at that one game, not even that genre as there are different types of shooters.

Tricky eh.

Lulu_Jane 08-12-2006 06:30 AM

Morrin, I'll see your Chess, and raise it with a bout of Paper Rock Scissors...

Bring. It. On.

Playbahnosh 08-12-2006 07:29 AM

you guys know "Pure Pwnage" right? Now, how can "teh Ownerer" prove that he is the best gamer? ;)

yes, make an idiotic online show about it LOL

TheChosen 08-12-2006 07:58 AM

Chess sounds great, and so does Soldat.

Any other recommedations?

gregor 08-12-2006 10:30 AM

Space empires

Morrin 08-12-2006 11:20 AM

I would definetly like to play online chess with someone some evening, but my weekend is booked. I'll keep that in my mind however.

No you can be the best gamer at a certain game
It's not that hard to understand, it doesn't have to fit the exact perameters of the title god damnit that's what I meant by not taking everything so literally.

moogle 08-12-2006 11:49 PM

Oh I see what you mean.
Good point, although, sadly its the internet, everybody takes everything literally, which often leads to oddness / flaming oO

TheChosen 10-12-2006 12:51 PM

How about Civilization II?

Luk@ 10-12-2006 07:40 PM
