One of the fast things of these star trek games.
They made heavy use of tokens, just like in the series on telly, 3 standard guys and a new unknown guy go on a mission. Hmm i wonder who is gonna die. |

Fun aside, I vividly remember butting my head in frustration when trying to play this in the old days. Some of those puzzles were HARD. I just went through the two first Monkey Islands when a friend gave me this game. Totally different from MI. Maybe I should give this a whirl. It's been ages :) |
Too bad they never made this a talkie...
I guess the 25th aniversary was a bit more special then "just" another Star Trek game. |

A 'talkie' version of Judgement Rites does exist but it was very rare, part of a special package that also included collectables and a video of "The City of thed Edge of Forever". |
Both this game and 25th Anniversary are cracking adventures, a lot of fun..well thought out and immerse you in the Star Trek universe. Im a bit shocked to learn that only the COLLECTORS edition (the one with the video) of Judgment Rites was a talkie because I had it and sold it when I got my hands on a budget (white label) UK release of these 2 games which both came in the same box and on seperate cds, I think I may indeed have gotten rid of the talkie one in error thinking the other cd one was identical..eek! will have to check it out. I still have a manual for the collectors edition and it mentions voice cast whilst the manual for the other release doesnt so it could well be true that only the collectors one had voices. The collectors one also came with a cd with interviews and behind the scenes making of the game on as well I believe...
Great game...thanks for pointing out the differences between the versions ....Actually, as I recall, the collectors set I had was missing the video so I just held onto the manual, extras cd and heaven knows what I did with the game cd (charity shop perhaps) as I stupidly thought the budget one was identical and didnt want to keep 2 copies, the box was binned for being VERY tattered, oh the follies of youth! he he...tested my budget cd of this game, nice music and sound effects BUT no voices apart from shatners intro.. |
I've got the talkie version (that's why I was able to point out the version differences). All text has full voice-overs (though a few of them are bugged).
Don't think it includes the interviews or "behind the scenes" info, though. The version where voice is only in the intro sequence is the FDD version with the sound/video addon installed. Oh and here is ED2K link for it (works with an ED2K client like eMule) Quote:
|
Heheh, I also own the "very rare" collectors box. 61140 of 75000, including the episode, a pin and a couple of interviews, etc. All in cool black and gold :P
Is it the community around here, or what? :D Anyway, I never really got into the game. I mentioned it way back in the 25thA thread, though, posting as a guest. |

[/b][/quote] :D You are right. I got the floppy version and the collectible version as soon as it came out. Never played it. put it on my shelf and forgot about it. |
So to recap a bit....the WHITE LABEL company (budget releases) who were usually rather reliable released the 2 games in one box at a budget price, each game on a SEPERATE cd, in a SEPERATE case and with SEPERATE manuals BUT despite all the space on the CD they didnt give us the talkie version but instead the souped up floppy one. GRRRRR!!!!!!!!! wish I could get my hands on the git who made that decision, wonder if there were copyright issues involved. As previously mentioned, I had a really tatty, incomplete collectors set (no video or badge) and just binned box, kept extras cd (with interviews) and I THINK (maybe somewhere) gave the game cd away as I thought it was identical to the white label cd I had, oh well...these things happen.
Thanks for the emule link, downloading now! |
Adventures were my most favorite genre long time ago. This game is pretty cool, anyway I'm getting older or what, some challenges really annoyed me on this game:P I hated the frustrating feeling when I knew how I wanted to solve particular thing, but didn't know how to realise it in the game. I know 10 years ago it din't matter to me but now.. :P Example: I knew I need heat for the ground to power up controls. OK, so I found a solution to a problem. So, phaser came to my mind. I've tried to shot at the rocks underneath or around the controls. The game didn't allow it though(said something about that I'm stupid). So I thought it won't work, but it came to my mind that I have to contact Enterprise to fire up something bigger. I spent dozens of minutes walking through every room, trying to contact Enterprise, without success. Then I tried from anger to fire at random rock and whoa, THAT rock worked, after that I've got the tip to contact Enterprise. This is pretty stupid IMO. The success depends if you try to click everywhere, not that you found the solution in your head. BUT, I've been trying to contact my ship, still no success. I had to find out from the walkthrough I have to tricode CERTAIN rock as a target..omg! :P :wallbash: You know those moments really frustrate me when I play the game, when I know what I want to do, how to solve a problem, but I have to spend so much time with trial-error to find some place where to click, I see no point in that really:P
Of course years ago it didn't matter to me, I remember playing Larry 1 and trying for months various commands to get the result:D Well the times are different, I've got not so much free time.. |
Thank you Abandonia for making this Great game availible to every1.
I've spent hours playing the other Star Trek game, and its nice i finally got my hands on this one. ^_^ Kirk and spock is just teh pwnz0rage. ^_^ |
anyone else also has d-load problem? here it was downloading over 20h and still didn't finish :-o that's odd. i canceled it and tried again fresh... it's ultra slow... :-(
|
yup...ultra slow download for me also, timed out...strange.

I own the talkie version of this game. I haven't played this in at least ten years. Last thing I remember from it was [spoiler]getting stuck during the WW2 (!?) mission[/spoiler]
|
I have no problems downloading it, but it won´t run. I did what was explained in the review (editing the executable´s properties) and double-checked wether I did it correctly, but when I run the exe, it switches to a blank screen and nothing happens. I tried waiting a few minutes, but even then nothing happened and I had to switch back to windows with Alt+Enter.
Any ideas what I could do? |
Try setting a finite amount of memory in each of the options in the memory tab. See if that helps.
Also, did you run the sound config? Please do so and see if the game will work when you disable all sound. If that fails, you can try using DosBox or VDMSound. You can get them from our programs page. You can download it here. |

I'm having the same issue. |
Abandonia is experiencing connection problems lately. Read this thread for more info.
As it is, solving the problem is entirely up to our hosting provider. |
Could anyone help me? In the first mission, i want to play chess against the computer to set it checkmate with Spock. However I tried to "use" computer but nothing happens.
So I must be doing something wrong. In a walkthrough they hint at "use Spock on the computer" .. so, how do I select Spock to use it? |
Try using Spocks' Tricorder ojn the left computer panel or on the hologram projector. Don't remember which one.

eMule is crap.
|
That depends on your point of view.
|
Man this is one of those games that I wish I bought when it first came out. I've played it now recently since its become abandonware, but still it would be nice to own a nice new talkie version. On a side note:
Is there any opinions out there as to Judgement Rites vs. 25th Aniversary? I've never played 25th Anniversay, so I wondering if someone could enlighten me as to how it compares to Judgement Rites. |
eMule gives 10 mins at 4.5k download and then 23 hours at 16.0k upload. Never have I had that with bitorrent. I have never had a file of any size take 4 days to download either.
So yes, my opinion is emule is crap. At least the 2 ed2k one's I have been given so far. |

THANKYOU ABANDONIA but there is ont little thing if anyone has an ftp server with enough space and bandwith and access to the original iso with speech could the zip it up and put the link up or email with the link [BEEEP]
anyway once again THANKYOU ABANDONIA |
Read post #7. It's got an eMule link to the file.
|
If you don't like emule, as I don't and prefer bit torrent, here's a link for the CD, floppy and Starmap of Startrek Judgement Rites, it also comes with the pdf manual of 25th anniversary which has an almost identical interface, etc.

If this is allowed I could put JR Talkie version into a zip file and if someone knows a contact where I could send it to so they could put that version up on here as well or just replace the floppy version. The folder is 21mb so that should be ok for download speed

The version for download here is the floppy version PLUS the voice/video addon pack, weighing in at 23 MB.
An actual full talkie of STJR is 700 MB large (circa 680 MB when packed with WinRar). Anything smaller is either the floppy version with the aforementioned addon pack or a CD-rip from which the voice-overs have been removed. |

When I try to run the game a black box pops up and says that i need at leat 1MB of EMS memory to run the game but i followed the directions in the game summary but it didnt work. Dose anybody know what to do? :sos:

how to i initialize the voices in this game? Music and sound fx work.....
|
run setup and select the soundblaster pro in sound effects (use adlib for music)
|
tried that, i get sound fx but no music and no voice over?
|
well, for music, choose adlib or roland. and for voice, there is voice, but intro only. no in-game voices at all=/
|
Full speech is only available in the CD version of the game. The one we have on Abandonia is the floppy version.

If it's EMS related, make sure you have the

Click the right mouse button and select the left hand icon. Click on Spock for all techie things then click on the chess boards to play chess. After checkmate, select the use icon again, and select the blue bag in the upper-left corner of the screen. Select Spock's science tricorder (it's right after the kill phaser) & click on a computer terminal on the left side of the screen. Repeat using McCoy's medical tricorder on the same terminal. I just learned you must "use" Spock on the computer to get the code & again to open the door.
In case you're stuck again, hints are available at http://www.uhs-hints.com/uhsweb/stjr.php |
i hate the uhs, you have to actually pay for the answers
|
That's as retarded as the hint line they have at the back of game manuals.

I think this and 25th Anniversary are the best Trek games ever. They're almost like brand new episodes from the original series, and they fit the tone and atmosphere perfectly. Star Trek games are best when they're adventure games. Shooters and flight sims/arcade games are a waste of the IP.
The MMO had potential, but it doesn't sound all that great to me. I think it's a mistake to have everyone start out as captains. And now that I'm reading the wiki to catch up on its features, "away team run and gun missions" sounds like a bad idea as well. |

I just downloaded the file - no issues, and testing the archive shows no problems with it either.
Please specify more details about your problem so we may be able to help you. |
oops
Strange- now it worked fine. But anyways- thanks a lot.
|
Love these trek games, but the space battles are horrible -I lose every time! There should be a radar or something so you know where they are!
|
I recall 25th Anniversary had one in the middle of the bridge - that round device with multiple dots on it.

If Scotty said "We're off course, captain!" you didn't read the star map and should restore a game and start over. The Elasi Pirates are unbeatable, btw. |

2. There are 1-3 ships, this is also random. 3. Most of those scenarios are difficult, but should be beatable. 4. Remember about a simple trick. Lock on to an enemy and get them into your target... AS LONG AS NO ENEMY HAS YOU IN THEIRS... fire and immediately press any of the buttons to talk to the crew. The combat will pause, but weapons cooldown will not be affected. This can get you out of situations like fighting three Klingon Warbirds. :D |
I've started to play the version of the game, that I got from your site, but now I did get my fingers on the talkie version.
The problem now is, that I'm already in the fourth or fifth mission and it seems, that I can't use my savegames from the normal version, because the game then crashes. But I would really like to use my savegames. [Picard]Suggestions?[/Picard] |
I doubt you will be able to use them. Talkie and non talkie version aren't normally compatible like that at all. But I can't say that it 100% true though...but from experience you are going to need to play the talkie version from the start or just finish the non talkie one. Sorry.
|
That's a pitty, but I expected something like this. Well, maybe I will go to play it all over again - the voices make it desirable.
Anyway I'm still annoyed about the fourth mission "Light And Darkness", where I can't reach the 100 % at the mission rating. The last time I even followed a guide, which told me how to choose the right answers, but it didn't help. [Picard]Suggestions?[/Picard] |
Light and Darkness isn't too bad; just remember to fix the radar dishes (and scan them and their consoles) prior to entering the complex and also scan the outside of the complex with both tricorders. Also, clean the equipment before making the sample, and don't insult or intimidate anyone in the dialogues. This one I found was pretty flexible as long as you did the actions properly and in the right order.
Voids was far more of a challenge for me to get 100% on. I was unable to find 100% guides for "Voids", "Espoir Station", and "Light and Darkness", but "Voids" was definitely the most challenging for me. Also, I play the version that gives you only commendation points at the end of each mission, but from what I've seen, it looks like 100% = 4 commendation points, so my information is for getting 4 commendation points. Also, in my opinion the voices definitely make it worth it to play through the whole thing again, even multiple times. They definitely add A LOT to the experience, and the many different paths you can take on each mission just make it even more amazing. |
Reviving a very old topic.
I am currently running the game but I have not noticed any differences between this version and the talkie version from GOG which I also have. Is the Movie and Sound Pack standard installed when I run this game through DosBox? |
This game is on GOG for $9.99
