Review and Download |
This doesn't really look like an "Adventure" game to me...
|
thats true.. somebody should fix it
|
I don't know about others, but a critical folder was missing in my download, causing the game to crash.
To fix it, simply create a new folder "GAME6" in the game folder. |
I created this "Wreck Identification" file to help with identifying wrecks until you can afford the Wreck Identification computer thing which auto-identifies them. It helps to maximize your profits with a correct identification. Plus it's a lost faster to download for people still on dialup. LOL.
I used the info from the .pdf manual, and some of the words looked a bit smudged so there might be some typos, if you encounter any errors, please inform me so I can fix them. Thanks. (I've included a .txt and .doc version, depends what you prefer I guess) Wreck Identification (txt) Wreck Identification (doc) |
Well, Pirates were in adventure so i thought....
anyway, are you sure that game crashes and everything is fixed by simply creating that directory. Then i can add it in archive. Reviewer had no problem playing it like this. please respond ... :) |
Of the two people I know that tried neither could play it without adding at least GAME6.
I actually checked it with others sites just now. Seems you need to add all GAMEX folders with X 1 to 6. Edit: HOTU has it as a technical note, so maybe there's a reason for them not being in the archive? I wouldn't know :P |
how do you save ???
|
S key, works only in bridge or officer stations

Sorry to bother you gents, but I seem to have a problem with this game. I try to play it on Windows 98 and all I get is the a screen with the company logo, then the title screen, then the credits screen and nothing else. Same thing happens when I try to use DOS. Anyone as a similar problem?
|
if it happens even in dos, maybe its corrupted archive? whats the size of all the files when its s unzipped?
or it could be wrong excutable. "rogue.bat" should be it |

New archive uploaded :max: |
I have a few questions:
1. Did you find that not all cannons hoisted up to the ship appear as cargo? Does this depend on any skills of the crew? 2. Has anyone found a musket? I routinely find chests and cannon, but rarely other items. Is it the case that unless a ship's manifest says "muskets", it won't have any? 3. What's the highest amount of money you've recovered from a ship? For me, it's about $100 million, but a competitor got more than $2 billion once. BTW, I always do archeological digs. |
As Romano said, there is new archive up. We put those directories so if someone would be nice enough to check is everything OK now, we would appreciate it :ok:
As for the manual, it will probably be uploaded once again as we have no hard evidence on if this is really a HOTU-made manual. :D We got it from independent source and is possible that HOTU got the manual from the same place as our contributor. Besides, why do we have to be everything different from HOTU? Still, if would be nice if we can get new manual that looks better. If someone can do this and have yet wondered is there a hard-working contributor lying inside of him, now it's the time to find out :ok: |
can someone explain how combat actually works please? - unless you have the sub (I don't yet) you get about 5 lines for the RV or trawler - they dont make sense - dont describe what you see on the screen - are contradictory - and in short - dont work. sometimes I can see my attackers and shoot back - sometimes I can't and I'm just left sitting there getting shot up - right now I'm under attack by about 3 vessels at once - they are only visible on radar, and my guns cannot see them - let alone target them - but their combat skills are lacking too - I've left them to attack me without fighting back or even moving for about 2 hours and the red things they are shooting at me seem to miss almost every time - what's going on? - it wont even let me make a run for it!! surely the combat screens shouldn't be so boring - something should happen |
Hey,
I bought this game back in the day when I was just a kid, but I still dust it off every few years to replay because it's uniqueness is undeniable and I've always been into marine archaeology. Anyway, I have coordinates for like 90% of the game's wrecks if anyone wants me to share! My preferred method of playing is to first find a few super loaded wrecks like the N.S. de la Maravilla in the Bahamas and the San Jose off Columbia... usually those 2 alone give me enough money to buy a Sea Rogue right away and from there it's easy sailing if you buy cargo extensions because you can dive multiple wrecks and keep the cargo bay open without having to go to port after every dive. One thing that always bothered me (and who would have thought 15 years later I'd finally figure it out) was finding the Titanic. I had the coordinates, but it would never show up on a search, even when I took the Sea Rogue as deep as possible thinking maybe that had something to do with it. But still nothing. Then, after a certain point in the game you get a message intercepted from Evil Eddy that he's at the site and is going to plunder it. Now I used to go there and get into a combat situation with him and usually he would fall off the radar and I would elect to disengage and then it would say I failed to protect the wreck and lost all my contracts. But just yesterday the same thing happened and this time I made sure not to lose him and fired 2 torpedos and one of them finally hit him and after that I was able to find the wreck on my sonar! I sent in the probe, but unfortunately there's no artifacts in the wreck because it's protected as a historical site. Still... if anyone had that problem, there's your answer! Here's a few of the best wrecks in terms of wealth, uniqueness, or unique items: N.S. de la Concepcion - Bahamas (except the wreck site in the game is actually way out by the BVI) N.S. de la Maravilla - Bahamas El Rubi Segundo - Florida N.S. de Atocha - Florida N.S. del Juncal - Mexico De Todos los Dias & San Jose - Columbia (San Jose I think is the richest wreck in the game) Hunley S.S. Central America Buena Vista Tobermory Galleon Girona Carmelan Mary Telemaque La Lutine some of the Vigo Bay wrecks Las Cinque Chagas And of course the modern wrecks are cool, but they get repetitive after a while If anyone wants coordinates let me know! Hopefully they are the same in every game? |

I would like a few to help me start out. I had this game since I was a kid and beat it over and over. I like to just start out rich sometimes. Unfortuately, I often lose my coordinates after not playing for a few years. |

If you are still on a boat and not a sub and you try to sneak into an Evil Eddy wreck site and you get caught they will use subs to attack you. That means you can either aim your ship away from them and run and wait for probably an hour or just reload your last save because you have NO chance of winning. |

2. I have found muskets. They do only appear on ships with muskets in the cargo manifest. Muskets really aren't all that great and they usually only worth around a quarter million. 3. I think i got around a total of a billion but i am just starting playing again after a few years. I only do archeological digs whenthere are tons of jewelry at the bottom. I almost always vaccuum. |

I did the last three posts so if anybody wants to email me or reply to me with questions or Coordinates I will respond. |
I've won the bidding for Sea Rogue game off ebay today, i do have a copy but it lacked the floppy discs. I can't remember where i left the manual, as i jotted down the co-ordinates like 90% of the ships!!. I would like the co-ords of the San Jose wreck if you have it, just to get the Sea Rogue craft quicker!.
Oh titanic, i did in the end defeated Evil Eddie, and set the probe into the wreck, but nothing major of value found, apart from the British Govt commission. I look forward to my copy of Sea Rogue this week, for some reason the download of that game does not work on my XP, or even on older Win95 pc, so i'm guessing i need to install the game first anyway. |
It doesn't work cause it's a DOS game, pal.
This should help ya. |

Cool game... ...except there's a glitch... if you find more than 4 "artifacts", it won't let appraise more than 3... even after you've sold the first 3. |

I've appraised more than four items from a wreck, and haven't been able to appraise the second of two. It all depended on the method I used to get the item. |
manual?
So what happened to the manual for this game? I remember downloading it a few months (about a year?) ago, but now it has disappeared? Or maybe I donwloaded it from HOTU, or the links in previous pages. Nothing of all these work now, and I seem to have lost my own downloaded copy :(.
|
Yes, what happened to the manual - now that HOTU is no more? You really need the manual on here because without it I don't think anyone would understand the game or at least get anywhere with it.
|
I have the manual.
Hello all,
I happened to remember this game when I was searching for games to download to my iPhone. I have the original floppy's (4 1/2" ones), a backup copy on the later floppys, and my original manual with all of my notes. :) I bought it new back in 1994 I think in the clearance rack of a software store! I absolutely loved this game! Now that I have a Mac, I miss playing this game. I used to download it onto my PCs and go to DOS mode and play it. Does anyone happen to know if it was ever made for a Mac? Or was it ever updated? Anyway, I don't remember all of the tips and tricks for the game as I haven't played it in over 5 years but I do remember that I beat the game at least 10 times (you know--the screen where you retire...blah blah blah as the famous captain who found the Titanic) I would love to play it again...I never did find all of the wrecks. I always thought there was a glitch in my 3" disc copy and it didn't copy all of the game. The one thing I do remember is that you can't find the Titanic until you reach some "secret" level. You may have the coordinates in the beginning but it will not find the wreck until later. Anyway...was it available on Mac? I'm happy to share my manual... This game reminded me (okay i'm going to date myself) of a really old game from back in the old Radio Shack computer days called "The Sands of Egypt" At least I think that is what it was called. It was played by putting the cassette (yes a cassette) into the tape drive attached to a Radio Shack Commodore (I think) computer. It had no graphics...all written clues. |
Here are some tips
I just remembered some tips for you. In order to be able to appraise all of the items, you must increase your captain's training in appraisals...the higher it is the easier to appraise all items. I never had any trouble appraising all the items.
Also, increasing the training of your weapons and engineer officers will make combat way easier. By the way the MK30 torpedoes are pretty useless so don't waste your money purchasing them. Hope this helps. |

Scroll down for the Mac how to: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=8933 |
Are you able to scan the manual?
|
Yes I can scan it
I'll let you know when its done. :)
|
Great. :D
|
Here is the Manual
Okay, I put the manual on my website.
You can find it here. http://www.imageextensions.net/page13/page13.html Please be warned. It is a HUGE file over 89MB. I hope you can download it. If you can't download it, let me know and I will try to split it into smaller files. |
90MB for how many pages? I think we can get that size down a bit. How did you make the PDF file? The problem is that our limit for extras is 35MB or so I believe so 90MB will cross that limit unless we can get it down. Splitting up the manual should be a final course of action.
|
I'm confused.
162 pages scanned as a document in PDF. I'm not trying to post it here on your forum due to the size. It is posted on my website for whomever wants to download it to their own personal computer.
I need some help with the DosBox and Mac. I don't quite understand the directions...They are way over my dos knowledge. :) The Instructions say to create a folder for my games and then mount as below instructions....but is the folder I create supposed to have this long name? Create a folder for your game, e.g. in your Documents folder - "/Users/your-user-name/Documents/DOSBox stuff/MyGame". Z:\>mount C "/Users/your-user-name/Documents/DOSBox stuff/MyGame" I'm completely confused. |
I will try to make the PDF smaller if it isn't protected.
The path to your games directory doesn't have to be that long. You can use any existing path, but don't take any important directory (root, system etc.) because you could delete all files there when making a mistake in DOSBox. That means, create a new directory for your DOSBox games somewhere since I guess you don't want to lose any other files. |

Read and apply. It's the best and safest way to with dosbox work on a Mac OS, believe me. |
Thank You dosraider
Yes, I have your link. Bear with me...it's been over 5 years since I have used dos language...I'm a bit rusty.
I finally got c mounted...it only took 2 days. I had to drag my dos folder to a different location because it would not recognize the path directory. mine finally took it by doing this mount c /users/ie/dos/ Now I am trying to translate the preferences instructions. |
Help me.
Okay, I was able to get all the way to change directory to c:\SEAROGUE> but now I can't remember how to get game started.
I thought it was install or start or something like that but it gives me the illegal command error....:wall: Can anyone get me past this point? I can't remember any of my dos. It's in the back of my brain covered in cobwebs. |
Type dir /p to list the contents pagewise and look for EXE, BAT and COM files. Take one that sounds like it would start the game. ;)
|
Manual front and back are on FTP as boxshots. Got the manual down to 27MB, upload later. Will add everything to the main site on Sunday.
|
Woo Hoo got it to work
I got it to work! I played it on my Mac!
|
Really enjoyable review! I have got the urgent need to examine this one... :)
