:) Ahh yes, I remember this game. Back in the day it was the talk of the day. I have the cd and it got put on the back burner, being at that time there were other excellcent games.
|
Ah yes, I had an original copy of this a long time ago; an awesome game, and way ahead of its time, being a fighting/adventure game combo. The graphics were also impressive for the time.
HOWEVER.... it's short, and the ending is atrocious, an obivious lead-in to a sequel which, to add to the insult, was never made... So you don't even get to finish the story. Grrrrr. |
I can't get it to run. I'm mounting the game directory as drive C and running bioforge.bat but it won't load the program. I keep getting an unable to detect CD-ROM or game CD error.

Then EA gave Origin just the right to update and maintain Ultima Online or future Online games which kept getting canned. And 3 years ago, EA killed Origin for good. F**k EA to be honest - Origin made/published tons of good games before Electronic "the Borg" Arts took over: Wing Commander series Ultima series Crusader series Bioforge Privateer series Wings of Glory System Shock Strike Commander Shadowcaster Cybermage (underrated if you ask me) |

Do you guys need an ISO for Bioforge? |
Hey, how do I stand up in the beginning of the game while I'm lying on the bed?? I've tried just about all my keys but i can't figure it out. kthnxbai

i having same problems - the dos tells me the emessage.txt - what wrong?
please could help me? :sos: |
hi,
for all who have problems with this "release": here is my fix for DOSBOX user. for pure DOS users it will work the same way IMO. - unzip the BIOFORGE.ZIP in a "path your choice" (e.g. into D:\GAMES\DOSBOX\ for windows user). - you will get a folder named BIOFORGE\ - rename this folder (e.g. BIOTEMP) - start dosbox with "path your choice" as drive c: (e.g. D:\GAMES\DOSBOX\) and do this: Code:
CD BIOTEMP\ - change install type to LARGE - now we have install path = "C:\BIOFORGE" and install type = "LARGE" - "install bioforge" and choose your soundcard settings (e.g. SB16 220/7/1 for DOSBOX defaults) - "save settings and exit" - quit dosbox - move the folder X\ from BIOTEMP\ to BIOFORGE\ and also BIOWARE.BAT - delete BIOTEMP - start dosbox again - start bioforge with the copied batch file: Code:
CD BIOFORGE |
me again :)
one minor mistake: instead of INSTALL TYPE = LARGE you could and should choose TINY since we don't need to copy the files from our "CD". every other option will be a waste of space. have fun |
Thanks for the info! |
So Biofan, the only thing in the game directory will be the X folder and the BAT file? Or am I missing something?
|
Can anyone explain to me what keys to use?? I can't figure out what to do when the game starts
|
Ah, BioForge. I loved this game to death back in the day on my good ol' 486... may she rest in peace. Too bad I never finished it.

hi,

the problem with the ZIP archive is the included INSTALL.OPT file. there are wrong paths written. you can look at it with notepad. its a simple text file. the wrong paths (C:\BIOF\ in this case) causes the game to fail. therefor my fix suggests a complete new "CD-installation". folder X\ contains the ripped files from CD. and because the game wants a CD inserted, we fake it with the SUBST command, which maps a given path to a new drive letter. in this case drive S:. after the game is installed we have to fake the CD (mount/subst to letter S: or every other drive letter you used for installation) every time we want to play the game. this is what the batch file does: substitute folder X\ to drive S: and start the game. you can use every other path or drives, but then you have to fix the batch file. no big deal tho, but i wanted to give a guide that doesn't mess around much. so in short you only need X\ and the .BAT from the ZIP. but you have to put it somewhere for later use. and for convenience its stored in the game installation directory. hope this makes it more clear for you. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(PorkSalad @ Jun 24 2007, 04:35 AM) [snapback]296047[/snapback]</div> Quote:

THis is my mistake guys, i can't believe i missed this. There wasn't supposed to be this BIOF directory, only C: but i missed this. That is why you can't get it to work and it worked fine for me. All right, the easiest way would be to simply erase every BIOF and BIOFORGE from the INSTALL.OPT and mount your BIOFORGE directory as c: in DosBox. You can open INSTALL.OPT with notepad. This is how INSTALL.OPT shoul look when sound card is set to none Dir=C:\X\BIO\BIOFORGE TempDir=C:\ PlayDir=C:\gamedat text=C:\X\BIO\BIOFORGE\monitors\text.flx MsgPathE=C:\script\Emessage.txt MsgPathF=C:\script\Fmessage.txt MsgPathG=C:\script\Gmessage.txt language=E KeyboardExt=E Soundvol=100 Musicvol=100 Gamma=50 ScriptDir=C:\script\*.* Figures=C:\body Items=C:\items MusicPath=C:\music\music.flx SoundDir=C:\sound SPEED_FACTOR=2 _TIMETEST=1 subtitles=1 SOUND=OFF SndPort=0 SndIRQ=0 SndDMA=0 SndCardId=0 MUSIC=OFF MusicPort=0 MusicCardId=0 Now if for example your Bioforge directory is in D:\GAMES\BIOFORGE simply mount in Dosbox like this mount c: d:\games\bioforge then you can start install to set sound and after that run Bioforge.bat You need to make virtual S: which is copy of X directory but that is done in BIOFORGE.BAT so you don't have to delete the subst S: because it is done from DOsBox. I'M VERY SORRY, i will fix the problem right away, i just need to put this modified INSTALL.OPT in the archive, only it might take some time to upload |
Biofan, I tried every key you posted in #20, but in the very beginning when the cyborg is lying on the bed, the only key that works for me is 'L'.
And I do have a numpad and arrow keys which work, they even work in the Load Menu in this game. I did a full install from the CD in the X folder. And I'm running Dosbox 0.70 Also, I don't see a mouse cursor when the cyborg is asleep, but I do see one in the Load menu and the difficulty selection. Am I missing something or is the game not working right for me? |
And to add to that, I do hear music, the game runs smoothly. I see the Health monitor behind the Cyborg moving. And I see some blinking blue pixels on the evil-looking R2D2.
|
to complicate things further :w00t:, you can even let all this SUBST stuff aside and set DIR in INSTALL.OPT to the correct path
e.g. Dir=C:\BIOFORGE\X\BIO\BIOFORGE or as writen by marko_river Dir=C:\X\BIO\BIOFORGE if you choose to mount the install directory as C: the you can start with BIOFORGE.EXE and forget any SUBST. the only reason why i took the "fresh new install" approach is that "DOS newbies" might get confused up with config files and messy paths. @GUEST: in the beginning you have to wait .. your cyborg is paralyzed :) so he needs a sec to wake up. this is part of the game! PS: if you get black screens with music in dosbox after starting, it might be that your box is configured to "slow". hit CTRL+F12 several times and wait. if it starts, tune your box for maximum pleasure :bleh: i recommend the following entries in your dosbox.conf/dosboxrc: Code:
[cpu] PPS: if your game crashes like mine at the color puzzle near the end and you use dosbox 0.7, downgrade to 0.65! that solved the problem for me. have fun |

go with the default install dir C:\BIOFORGE and point in the review page, that it MUST be copied to C:\BIOFORGE and remove the .BAT this way the compressed .zip (at max) gets under 50MB (~15MB saved). this way it should be working pretty straight forward. just my two cent |
Ok, so I get that you need to wait for your robot guy to wake up... but for how long? I've been waiting for... a long time now. And should Numlock be on or off?
Oh, and simply copy and paste the install.opt text from the earlier post into your install.opt file for anyone who is having trouble getting the game to run. |
Yes, copy paste of install.opt will do the trick.
As for awakening, you actually need to wait for a few shake-ups (they are not earthquakes as you will discover later) that will awake him. After that you have to press buttons to get up, don't know which one exactly, i never had the problem with it. I suggest playing on numpad but still don't know should numlock be on or off. Also, i finished entire game in DosBox 0.65, i didn't know that there might be some problems near the end. As for the cycles, i actually got the best results when lowering the cycles. I played it on PentiumIII and i always set default cycles to 5000. But in this case it was smooter in 4000 cycles. Don't know about faster computers. |

impossible to solve. and sometimes i got crashes on the cell block door panel too. its definitely a 0.70 thing, since 0.65 worked stable. after the puzzle i finished the game with 0.70. maybe its just something with the linux version i use, dunno about windows. |
Attention anyone who can't get Lex to wake up at the beginning!
If he doesn't get up, this is a problem with how you've set up your sound card in the Install Program. Make sure you've got the IRQ set correctly. (For example, I use dosbox and it sets the IRQ to 7, but by default the IRQ in the install program is 5.) If the sound card is improperly set up, nothing will happen in the game. To test this, see if there's speech going on in the intro to the game. If there's no speech, your sound card is not set up right. |
All right, i uploaded smaller archive and fixed instalation info.
Now, somebody won't mind downloading it again and trying it out, it would be appreciated. If you download new archive, you have to make DosBox to see your Bioforge directory as C:\Bioforge Example: if Bioforge directory path on your computer is D:\Games\Bioforge type mount c: d:\games Also, i'll put a short manual too in the extras soon OK, now i hope it will be easier to get around now that everything is set. BIG THANKS to Biofan for his help. So, Biofan, why don't you register as a member and keep on supplying some useful stuff like this info :D |
Great addition,
Though screenshots are way to bright, or is it just me? |
Possible, i increased gamma because it seemed to dark for the public. This way you get to see all clearly, when you play you can set the more "mystic" mode :)
|
I've reached an impasse in the game.
I don't want to go too much into detail in case spoilers are a problem, so I'll be vague. If you need more details, I can give them. After meeting Mastaba in person, I woke up without my gun. After trying many times to complete the reactor room, I checked some walkthroughs, all of which either assume that I have a gun or tell me to go get one where I originally got one (and yes, I went back there to make sure there wasn't another.) Is that savegame completely toast? If so, how do I prevent this if I play through again? |
I just read a different walkthrough and it explained an obvious way to get another gun. I guess I'm fine, other than having left a pointless post on here :P
|

Hi!
I can´t kick or punsh at the beginning. All i do is walk around like a turtle and wait for the robot to "kill" me. What can i do? how should it work? keeping "alt" or "cntr" pressed and hiting the numpad keys? num-lock on or of? thx, ZaR |
ZaR, to attack, press the"c" key on your keyboard, then hold alt or ctrl and press the numpad keys.. pressing teh c key first gets you into combat mode.
|
It's been a while, but i think that you should check reactor room before Mastaba, or not?
Anyway, i think you don't need laser really, i don't remember shooting much there. Alien will block your way so you need to get rid of it. Since you can't kill him yet, you have to make it fall. so the only solution is hand-to-hand combat, because that way you can make it fall behind and eventually to fall from the laser bridge. Other solution is to drag it to the bridge and shut it off but you need to be extra fast, i couldn't do it that way at least, so i had to fight. Hope this helps :) |
I always got a new pistol from the guard in the hall before the reactor room, and then, when I'm in the reactor room, I shoot the alien a couple times from the bridge, he charges at me, and I run and turn off the bridge and then he'll fall.. Its easier that trying to make him chase you from hand to hand combat, because he'd just walk to the bridge then run away.
|
Yap, that's the way to do it. I was fighting it to throw it from the bridge but i remember when playing the game when it was released that there was an easier way.
|
Argh!
I can't get it to run. I've adjusted the mounting and everything, but I keep getting a crash while it's loading and an error message that says it can't find emessage.txt, yet it's right there in the script folder where it's looking for it. What can I do? |
Reinstall the game.
|
Unfortuanately I did, more than once. I'll try again just in case.
|
Are you sure you have unpacked the archive correctly, then? What's the precise error message?
|
I'm pretty sure I unpacked it correctly. It's not in funky folders or anything...
The error message is: Cannot find file: C:\BIOFORGE\script\Emessage.txt 0 I wonder if that zero at the end is the problem or just some part of the error message. EMESSAGE.TXT is in the C:\BIOFORGE\SCRIPT folder. |
C:\BIOFORGE\SCRIPT is the path in DOSBox?
Or do you mount C:\BIOFORGE as your C drive in DOSBox? Remember that the paths in DOSBox are not the same as in Windows... |
The path in DOSBox is C:\BIOFORGE not C:\BIOFORGE\SCRIPT.
It's mounted as C:\BIOFORGE but doesn't work at all unless I also mount C:\BIOFORGE\X as the CD-Rom drive, so I have C:\BIOFORGE mounted as the C drive and C:\BIOFORGE\X mounted as the CD-Rom drive H (that's my CD-Rom drive and it's the drive letter it was looking for before I mounted the CD-Rom drive). Should I change the mounting to C:\BIOFORGE\SCRIPT? If I do that it won't look in the right place for the other stuff, will it? |
Now i'm totaly lost...
With Biofan's suggestion i tried out to run the game with tiny installation and without making directory X as CD drive (i made BAT file with SUBST S: X command) It worked fine for me if Dosbox see yuor Bioforge directory as C:\Bioforge - I just runed Bioforge.exe and everything was fine. If you installed more than once than that might be the problem because the paths of the instalation will be saved in INSTALL.OPT You might want to check that file (open it with Notepad or Wordpad) If you want to try to install it once again, do it from Dosbox with location you want to install it in already mounted as C: Then Install.OPT will memorize that path of Bioforge directory is C:\Bioforge (although you may install it at for example D:\Games if that was mounted as C:). After that make sure that Bioforge directory is C:\Bioforge in Dosbox as i already mentioned. It requires no CD check then, at least in my experience |
From "i don't want 2 hurt u!" 2 something like
"Ah....i dun give a *meep* anymore!" Gonna play it again 2 appreciate the story this time. Love abandonia! Woot! Muaks! :titan: |
I've tried the tiny install using DOSBox and it installed fine (apparently). I have the mounting path set properly in DOSBox, but it still can't seem to find the Emessage.txt file even though it's clearly in the SCRIPTS folder. I don't know why! This is driving me insane.
|
Has anyone been able to see the ending? I got to the very last part of the game but for some reason it's impossible to do the last thing in order to trigger the ending. (I don't want to be specific.) I'm using DOSBox 0.70
|
Never mind. I was just doing it wrong! :whistling:

Hi there. I followed the installation steps posted by BIOFAN which have been easy to follow for the most part but I am running into problems. I am able to get through the installation without a problem using the "TINY" install. However, after the part where I am supposed to quit dosbox and move folders I start getting lost. You mention that I should move the X\ folder and the BIOFORGE.BAT file from the BIOTEMP folder, but I see no BIOFORGE.BAT anywhere. The only batch files I even see are README.BAT and RESTART.BAT. Am I missing something here?
I know the game will work just fine because if I go through the install and just decide to run the game before exiting dosbox, as you mentioned, I can play the game. Once I quit though, I can't get back to it. HELP! |
dont follow his instructions, the archive was re-made
for all those who have problems with emessage.txt, please use default patch for the game, its c:\bioforge so no matter where you extract the game, make sure you will acces the directory via C:\bioforge in dosbox. for example, if i had my game extracted in c:\games\bioforge, the mount command would be "mount c: c:\games" or, if my game were located in d:\myoldies\bioforge, command would be "mount c: d:\myoldies" then acces the directory with "cd bioforge", run install.exe, select proper music card and sound card (if you wont select proper sound card, the game will freeze on begining) and after you finish the install, type "bioforge.exe" |
how i can fix the emessage txt = where the patch?
|
erm, read the post above dude
|
ok i have tried ever single instruction here and the thing still wont run.
|
where is your game unzipped on your hard drive?
|
OK, I got it to work (no idea what I did), but the next problem is that the graphics get turned 90 degrees when I try to go full screen. Any ideas?
|
SORRY, ignore that question: I found the solution in my screen setups.
Cheers |
*to Fletch Lives
Archive is changed and now you don't need bioforge.bat I hope that now there is no need to install the game again with the proper mount. Mount like r.u.s.s. said on previous page. Also, if you already installed or for some other reason want to install again, do it from DosBox. How? You must mount DosBox as explained and then install to c:\bioforge again, everything should be ok. If you have problems with paths again check that file INSTALL.OPT with any text editor (like Notepad) and see are paths set as c:\bioforge\.... still not all paths are like this but if there are any paths like c:\SOME_OTHER_DIR\bioforge it won't work and you probably installed it wrong somehow. At the and one more question to Fletch Lives: is that the name of the movie with that actor from 3 Amigos, hmmm i think his name is somethign like Chasy or Casey or something. The movie is sequel to the first Fletch i think and Fletch is reporter i guess. Good movies with GREAT music. I hope to get those songs somehow, perhaps you know something :D |

Hi everyone on this forum. I'm new here.
*Warning. The following lines may represent a little spoiler for some* I've been playing Bioforge a long time ago. Nowadays I've started playing with it again. Great game! However I have a trouble in the beginning of the game. I'm stuck in the guard room and can't unlock the door (I've already read some walkthroughs, but didn't succed in doing what they say). All I know to do is putting the nursebot holding Caynan's blue arm in front of the palm reader in guard room and then typing Caynan's security code in one of the monitors. I did it, but it won't work; even if I try different positions of the nursebot in front of palm reader, the monitor keeps telling me "Invalid code! Palm restoration denied". Can anyone help me? Thanks. |
you just have to try, i have no idea where could be a problem. bring the bot with holding arm in front of the scanner near a door, search for code in one of the diaries, type it in to the terminal

I hate this game. It's one of the most frustrating game i ever played. The fight system sucks. I don't know what direction my character facing, so often i kick in to the air. More, often it happens that on screen my punch get into the enemy, but he got no harm. I do hate it. Whats more, my key pushes are buffered someware (wheel, may be it is dosbox issue) so my character always does one more action then i planed.
The plot is quite interesting, so if there was "good more" or "adventure mode"... do you know any cheats? |
Oh my! I remember playing this on my AMD 486 DX 100MHz! The box was black with a green robotic hand - the story was kind of creepy - beating stuff with your busted arm and such.

Bioforge is an odd game - it's definately buggy but like many old DOS games, the games that were buggy never got patched or the patches are incredibly hard to find.
|
Hello all,
This is a pretty cool game, I remember buying it just for the Christmas holidays years ago. Though the story was great I always had some problems with the controls, especially the combat part, perhaps a control pad would have been better. Years later I picked up the Bioforge strategy guide. Great book as next to all solutions it also featured a lot of background on the ingame universe, and it was written from the viewpoint of a character that could have been in the game; an AI - not Lex the Cyborg. |
Reinstalled this game after being away from it for a looooooong time, and remembered that there's a lot of hacking around you can do with the game's script files. One thing you can quickly and easily do is give yourself a huge amount of battery power--enough that you don't really ever have to worry about bot being able to heal yourself.
To do it, open x:\bioforge\script\items.scp in your favorite text editor and search for the string "GIVELEXSTARTINGBATT" (Lex is the name by which the game's authors refer to the player character). You'll find a section that looks like this: Code:
{ GIVELEXSTARTINGBATT Code:
{ GIVELEXSTARTINGBATT After you do this, Lex's battery meter will no longer have a number next to it, since 10000 is higher than the designers ever anticipated the readout needing to show. You will be able to charge your built-in alien gun and heal yourself a whole hell of a lot. I suck at this game, so I was healing myself from near-death after every single fight, and by the end of the game I still had used up only two bars on my battery meter. A word of warning, though: if you insert another battery into Lex's battery compartment and then put back your original battery, you lose your gigantic charge, because the game uses additional scripts to figure out how much battery power you're supposed to have after that. Solution--DON'T USE ANY OF THE THREE OTHER BATTERIES YOU FIND IN THE GAME. There's a battery in Dane on the operating table, a battery in the Icarus, and a battery you get from the alien dude. Leave 'em where you find 'em. Only at the very end, when you need a battery for the Icarus, should you take out Lex's battery (and swap it for the one in the craft's nose). Enjoy, have fun, etc. Fiddle around with the rest of the script files--there's tons of neat stuff in there and I'm sure you can do some awesome stuff. Hint: start with the nursebot at the beginning. |
I completed this game ages ago - wonderful game for its time but yeah, combat is a bit random at times. You just move too slowly and the animations can really cause frustration. You end up hitting air when you think you're hitting your target etc.
Man, oddly enough: this game was easier on my 486 which could barely play it, because the game was so slow, it gave me time to properly aim. |
demo problem
I have the "demo-problem" that was mentioned above in the discussion: no code is letting me out of the guard room and the game save files are named "demoX" (where x is a number), not "gameX". The thing is I run the iso version downloaded from oldgames.sk which is 170mb size, and it certainly contains the full version in this 170megs... Seems though that the iso is corrupted and installs me demo instead of full version. The checksum of the cd shows 4 files mismatch: 2.fnt, 4.fnt, install.exe and install.msg.
See any solution to this? (i emailed the owner of oldgames.sk already, but in case he doesn't respond your help would be appreciated). Maybe someone would send me the correct version of the supposedly corrupted files mentioned above (copy them form cd) and if i replace them everything will start going smoothly? Of course the abandonia version is fully operational but I want to see all the fmvs and voices and all that was ripped off. |
A Little Help For Some Of You...
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/about10219.html
I used the above instructions and everything runs fine. Even off my iPod (using it as an external drive) it runs great. This game is fantastic and more people should know about it. |
Pfft. I can't get it to work! I have the error people were talking about in the first pages. I tried the solution given by BIOFAN, but it's still not working.
Any ideas? I don't have that Bioforge.bat file people are talking about, though. Only an exe. EDIT: Nevermind. I just read that the archive was remade. I'll find another solution then. :P EDIT 2: Oh. That so-called ''solution'' was freakin' easy. I'm definitely a DOSBox noob. Thanks, _r.u.s.s. (who isn't Russ). |
Running Bioforge ...
Ok. This is what I did, but umm, there may be simpler methods out there!
Needless to say atleast it runs from my Vista 64 bit desktop Icon beautifully. First read th nfo file from th gentleman who is I presume th original uploader.So-o, go into the folder : X. After reading th nfo txt click on install, naturally this must be run from dosbox having mounted both your Hard drive AND most importantly your Fake CD drive. Ok? So, th command is as follow; (from dosbox) mount C C:\ and then type: subst D C:\bioforge\X\Bio (then) C: (then) Bioforge Dosbox will complain about using the wildcard C, just ignore it and push on.. Now, once it has been installed somewhere on your C drive i.e C:\Bioforge, you will have two seperate installations...U need both of then coz Bioforge initializes from the CD-rom first. So-o lets say you installed the original zip into C:\temp, and lets say U have sucessfully installed onto C, then execute dos-box and type the following and it will launch : mount C C:\ subst D C:\Temp\Bioforge\X\Bio (and finally) Bioforge.exe Hope this helps, Jules |
Woops, obviously this was written for those new to dos-box and its arcane commands, so I've left out 1 command, before you finally execute Bioforge from its correctly installed folder, go back to your C drive mount by typing:
C: so-o, it goes C: and then Bioforge.exe as I said before I hope this has helped someone and not muddied th waters even further Jules |
Hello!
Seems like people haven't been posting since 2007... Anyway, I'll give it a try. I'm a huge fan of BioForge and it is one of the best games I've ever played, overall. I still have the original CD and box with manuals and everything, even if I wasn't playing anymore, I just kept it because I liked it so much. Now I find this excellent website, Abandonia, with a respectable amount of info in many old games... Well, I'm living in another country and felt the desire of playing again this awesome game, and so I downloaded it and it is running very good. Problem is: I'm running on DOSBox, on a MacBook Pro, and I just can't fight. After getting ready with combat mode, I've tried holding down command, control, alt, and every other key, and the numbers on my numpad (it is a external one, since notebooks don't have them), but I won't attack. Anyone have any solution? Thanks in advance. |
You must first hit C to go in combat mode , then ctrl or alt + numpad keys.
That's the way it works on a PC. If you can't get it to work on a @#@#@# Mac try to remap the keys in dosbox. |
Yes, it won't work, like I said, I can get into combat mode (hit C) but then it won't do anything. How do I remap the keys in dosbox?
|
Dosbox folder -> read me.
All explained there. [Edit] BTW, thought that for CTRL+F1 to work on Mac you must be full screen ... or something. #@#@#@ Mac. |
Yes, I have searched everything before posting here. I wouldn't post if it was working.
And what is it about #@#@#@ Mac? |
|
but dosraider already answered that you need to ctrl+f1 to remap it, why'd he use a front end if his dosbox works..?
also, #@#@#@ Mac. |
@#@#@#@#@#@#Mac

Agreed. Mac is no machine for gamers.
#@#@#@#@#@#@#@#@#@#@#@#@#@#@#@#@#@#@ Mac. |
lol@ this flamebait fest
|
Indeed. XD
|
Thank you, Arete. I will try that one.
To the others, I agree, Mac is not good for gaming, but some of us need to work, you know? And who can trust a PC these days? P.S.: Have a PC with Linux in here, but it is a desktop and I want to play exactly when I'm on my brakes. |
we were joking dude=P
but yeah, #@#@#@ Mac. PS: i don't mean to turn this into another mac vs windows discussion, but first of all, mac is pc. and second of all, i work and code both on my windows box and linux box pretty well, it's only the name, price, design and commercials that make mac "better for work". utter bullshit |

By the way, I don't mean to take any side in this. I love Windows from 3.11 to XP, I'm pretty happy with Ubuntu now, and the only reason I wanted to run BioForge on my Mac is because this is my notebook and I have it most of the time with me. |
Meh, the way I see it:
- Macs use expensive hardware and charge a premium on top of that - Macs use standardized hardware ... and charge a premium on top of that - as a result, they can focus on proper drivers for that hardware. Expensive hardware + drivers that have had a LOT of time to be developed = a stable system On the other hand, XP and Vista are rock solid today despite having millions of different driver & hardware configurations. The main frustration with Windows, comes from people who spend next to nothing on a crappy PC and expect it to run like a Mac. Some Mac fanboys at work bought a PC at Aldi (a European store that is very very cheap) and then went to compare it to a Mac that cost 4 times that amount :sucks: Buy a proper PC, get a proper anti-virus, and you'll rarely have any problems. In fact, the Macs at work have to reboot WAY more than my workstation PC. Macs are not great on networks either - they'll often refuse to connect to a server until you reboot. Heck, they'll drop the connection now and then as well. When it comes to networks, Macs are still primitive. And of course, servers are always PCs. In the end, if you want freedom of hardware, a smaller dent in your wallet and a much larger software base ... well PC is the best way to go. If you want to use your computer for making your own vids and stuff with integrated software, if you want things to be simpler, if you want to pay through the nose, wahey, Mac it is. The few programs thate are Mac-only only mean anything in a workplace that uses them. |
Mac x Win aside, I'm stuck. *SPOILERS*
Ok, so I got the time to finally play the game again. Running on Linux with no problem, everything working fine.
Now, The last puzzle I remember from when I played back in the day was the hexagons one. Everything is fine, but now I can't get back to the room with the various tunnels. I got the new bat, the reflective cube and the baster, but I can't shoot in the room with no gravity, so I can't reach the other end. The non working blaster is a glitch, or this is correct and I'm not thinking enough? |
No one? Any help? Hello?
|
sorry leopat, i haven't reached so far in the game, so can't answer your question:((!
i am stuck in a place before that, just after killing the bot on level 4:flame::flame::sucks: would anyone please explain to me how do i open the door opposite the elevator next to the burning bot!! The puzzle has to do with the airlock configuration. I don't understand the pattern and the walkthroughs miss this point::bleh2::sneaky::sneaky:((! |
what does it mean: the grid is in x-y emulation mode??!
|
@ Vorion
Think about it: O-ring. You have 9 squares. How do you make a ring out of it? :OK:
|
a few things
I have seen intro movie for bioforge on youtube, but for me when I play this I don't see that.. I dunno why
also, Is there a way to get the game completely in english? some of the stuff isn't english, like item descriptions in inventory, also the log books. If someone could help me with this I would be very grateful, thanks. |
Try the version in ISO cellar.
(You have to be a registered user to access.) |

I DL'd it, but when i try to mount the image with daemon it gives me a popup saying "unable to mount image. File not accessible" Know what might be the problem? plz help, thnx. |
Extract the files and run "unecm.bat" -> you get a bin/cue image

Haven't been playing since then, though, because it was my week off. I'll try something else, or even playing everything from the beginning, once I got some spare time again. |
I have the annoyng cannot find Emessage.txt problem.
I have the iso version, any suggestion ? Edit: resolved putting the folder Bioforge in a new folder called Dosprog so the working path is C:\Dosprog\Dosprog\Bioforge :) That's weird. |
I rate this game 3:
Very good story, background and atmosphere, but the movement and the combat are just terrible, luckly there arent many combat in the game. Anyway is always good to play games that when they came out were unplayable for almost all the players :3: |
Can we play this multi-player..?
I think I've seen servers about somewhere that have Bioforge. Or maybe it was Bioshock..? :mhh: |
I dont think bioforge can be played in multy :perv:

Don't forget you need to fake the CD again when you run. so the last bit needs another line... - start dosbox again - start bioforge with the copied batch file: Code:
CD BIOFORGE |
arg this forum sucks, where's edit.
disregard that 'bioforge.bat' last line part |
How to fire?
Can anybody tell me how I can fire the weapon without having a numpad available? I’ve tried every possible key combination but the weapon won’t fire. Or is there a different way to take down these huge guard robots?
|
Depends how you run the game ....
If you're using dosbox: remap the keys in the keymap utilty to keys you can use. |
random crashes in dosbox 0.73? anyone same issue?
|
Not here, nope.
|
Works fine for me in DosBox .74
I had this game when it was new. I really, really wanted to like it, but the controls, as well as the camera situation, just ended up frustrating the hell out of me. I kept playing it though, and even finished it, but it was one of those things where once I beat it, I never, ever wanted to play it again. After retrying it now with Dosbox, I quickly remembered how much I wanted to forget about it. As a "fun look back" at the dawn of 3d gaming I'd tell someone to check it out, but as a serious good game to play, I'd pass. |
small question
Hi everyone! I wanted to first start out by thanking everyone here that helped me get this memorable classic of a game to work and play! :)
One quick question though.. I've been playing the game and noticed through a walkthrough that while my sound works fine, that I have been missing out on the suspenseful music. Can someone help me find out how to get the music to work? Can I do so without reinstalling it, as I have already been playing? Your help would be appreciated. :) |
Run "install" from your bioforge dir and select SB(pro) for music card.
< *Wonders why sound & music are set to 'none' in AB archive ....? |
Thanks!
Thank you dosraider! Although it was probably obvious to most, I am still generally computer illiterate and was afraid I would mess something up. You learn something new everyday! :)

Now seriously! There have been no "shake-ups" or anything! Just a bunch of blinking lights! The only button that works currently is the "l" key... Also, when I downloaded the game there was no "bioware.bat" file, is that important at all??
|
WY88R
Same problem here. No shake`ups, he just lies there oblivious to any command :(
|
When you have no 'shake-ups' please check your audio configuration.
The game can have problems when your audio settings are incorrect. This probably has something to do with the rumbling sound... My DOSBox 0.74 settings when running INSTALL.EXE: Sound Card Type: "Sound Blaster Pro/16/16ASP" Sound Card Settings: "PORT: 0x220 IRQ: 7 DMA: 1" Music Card Type: "Sound Blaster (PORT: 0x388)" Have fun! (and battle frustrations!...) |
No sound...
Hi all. I've installed Bioforge OK I think under D-Fend and run the Install, but it crashes every time it tests the soundcard. Any ideas?
|
Wrong soundcard configuration or missing data files. Pick one.
|
I have the install.opt file in the folder OK and I've run the soundcard setup under D-Fend first.
|
Quote:
|
And you are absolutely double-checked certain it's neither of them?
Try a different copy of the game, or change the emulated soundcard and then change the game config to match. |
I turned off sound in the installer and turned off sound in D-Fend.
It still crashes at the soundcard check. |
Don't use D-Fend.
Game runs fine directly in dosbox. |
Yes! Thanks!
There was another folder called BIOFORGE inside the extracted folder, so I dumped the contents of that to the main folder and it runs brilliantly, sound and all. Only glitch is some of the backgrounds are messed and only partially appear as animations pass over them. Now, let's find the game manual... |
HELP
when i load it up on Dosbox it says
A problem was detected: Bioforge was unable to locate the CDROM drive or the game CD. |
Now sold on GOG :)
|
The game is still sold on GOG. Can someone fix the link for this?
|
