I've got to say this again, but damn Picard you write well! I really like reading your reviews - they make me wanna play the game, which is probably the most important thing. 8)

Keep it up!

The Niles 01-04-2004 09:04 PM

Thanks, Mika, for the praise. It's always good to hear that my efforts are appreciated.

Kosta you made a little mistake. The picture in the news bulletin depicts the Enterprise NCC-1701 D. It should be a picture of the original Enterprise NCC-1701. This is something that will annoy Trekkie's to no end so if you can and have the time could you change the pic?

muaddib 01-04-2004 09:22 PM

Good review man!

Yeah, I was just waiting for someone to notice :) Unfortunately that was the best enterprise pic I could find so that's the reason I put it up there... I'll look for Enterprise from TOS I promise :) If you have any good ones, send them to my email :)

Ioncannon 03-04-2004 01:39 AM

THANK YOU! I was looking for this game every were (I had cd but lost it)

Danny252 05-04-2004 12:54 PM

I sometimes get the error it cant find patches/ .bmp and crashes. Help!
I nearly got past mission 1.. and it crashed. its a random error though.

Prox 07-04-2004 05:57 PM

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, !!!!!!

I was just waiting for someone to put this game on the net. I found it once, while I still had my ole 486, on free-games-downloads but they started charging money for downloads (some "free game" download page huh?) so I didn't download it....

P.S. Thank you!

cosmogreen32 07-04-2004 07:09 PM

Seems like we have quite a few trekkies here? :)

Danny252 08-04-2004 07:53 AM

and a really annoying error.

LotharGR 08-04-2004 01:47 PM

What does NCC-1701 mean? Do ships in Star treck universe have code numbers like war ships of our time? And is this number a serial number, or just a simple number? ( sorry for the stupid question but i am not into star treck at all, but i always liked the series :) )

The Niles 10-04-2004 08:01 PM

NCC 1701 really means nothing. Gene Roddenberry put that in front of the ships name so it would sound more like a warship's name. All Federation ships have such a number now Voyager for instance is NCC 74656. The Higher the number the newer the ship is what is most likely but there are many exceptions to that rule.

LotharGR 10-04-2004 08:07 PM

I see :) What i always liked in "star treck" is that the technology that everything in the movie's universe is based ( spaceships etc ) is not completely science fiction, but many of the machines etc in the star treck universe, theoritically at least do exist, or will exist someday.

Danny252 12-04-2004 07:20 AM

Warp technology is theoretically sound(or so im told) but they cannot stabilise it.. says my mum..

The Niles 12-04-2004 09:39 PM

That theory is more then 30 years old now and I think it is no longer as sound as it once was but thepoint is it was thought through instead of doing things because they are "cool".

mika 13-04-2004 06:19 AM

I know this is gonna get me really flamed, but I feel like Star Trek is dead these days. I mean I know they're still coming up with loads of episodes and all, but it's all just a variation of the same theme over-and-over-and-over-and-...

I used to love them years ago but these days I'm just bored of them...

The Niles 13-04-2004 10:12 AM

I couldn't agree more. I still watched Enterprise up until a few months ago. Now I have about six episodes recorded but not watched yet. I will get to them eventually no doubt but the thrill is gone. Nemmesis was the worst TNG movie and one of the worst movies overall. The good thing though is that the games that get released are a lot better then they were and now that I have all TNG episodes on DVD I can watch them whenever I feel like it. There should be a new TNG movie in my opinion but Ent should be cancelled and no new series should be launched for at least 10 years. We need a star trek break.

LotharGR 13-04-2004 12:10 PM

What will come after TNG....? I mean Picard and his crew eventually will get old as Kirk and his crew have done. Are there any serious plans about what will come after them?

The Niles 16-04-2004 08:59 AM

Right now there are no plans to make another movie. Nemesis lost a lot of money for Paramount and Enterprise is not doing so well either. Chances are there will be no more Star Trek movies in the foreseeable future.

actually the ion engine was once only in SF too and they will make one soon or they already did. so maybe they will do the warp thing to in years to come.

BTW does anyone know how to end the mission where you find damage Republica ship? i mean you have to battle against enterprise replica+2 ships. i find it impossible to win them all.

LotharGR 01-06-2004 09:49 AM

Ion engines aren't science fiction... they do exist already. Sattelites use them only to make corrections to their routes ( because ion engines have limited thrust capabilities. ). But the warp-travel is completely another thing... Sadly, it may sound promising as a theory ( and actually, who knows, it may be right ), but its just that. A theory. It is supposed that the ship that enters warp speed, it creates a artificial "warm hole" and through that hole travels to wherever it wants. Problem is: how do you create a warm hole? It has been speculated that the ship must be able to create a gravitional field with the energy of the entire universe!. And it isn't only that. We do not know how the physical laws of our universe are altered inside the worm hole. The theory that a ship can go at light speed inside it is just a speculation. We really do not know what happens inside in those things.
It seems that faster-than-light speed is still a unreachable dream... and it will be as so for many many generations to come :(

FreeFreddy 01-06-2004 11:19 AM

When the people change their society form so that all people are true friends on entire world (or like that, no utopia, should happen in approximately 100-150 years), the discovery of such possibility as travelling in space with light-speed and then even faster should be only a matter of some centuries as everybody will focus his forces on this discovery.

The Niles 01-06-2004 08:58 PM

I know you overall score in the missions affects the difficulty level of the final battle. If you had a lowsy score it would be harder if you did it better then it would get easier.

Quote:

Better do that 1000-1500 years. 150 years are extremely few to unite a completely divided human race.. The things that keep us seperated are far too more than the things that unite us. The only thing that can happen and i see that as a good chance for humanity to stand united, is something like a "universal" danger. I don't know what that may be ( a meteor falling, a dramatic climate change, or a alien invasion :P ) but that will be the only hope to stand united against something as a whole race. If something like that does not happen, i don't see the humanity united anywhere in the near future.

FreeFreddy 02-06-2004 05:07 AM

Europe did the first step already even if it is not even close as fulfilled and not yet that what it should become later, but that IS the first step. And with 1000-1500 years: did you notice how changes appear today in only 5-6 if not 2 years? The time flows now much faster than it did in Middle Ages or earlier and so do the changes.
And the people are much more similarly than you think. All have same feelings, all have same needs, and if you can speak Japanese, there would be no problem to become friend of an japanese as we all are the same people with the same emotions. If we would take our time and educate our children in correct way (which unfortunately isn't happening today), there would be not even need for any wars that politicians are proclaiming.
 Anyway, we are off topic and in wrong thread for it, but we could continue in other if you wish.

LotharGR 02-06-2004 03:23 PM

I don't know... i am generaly not a optimistic person. I hope of course that you are right. Who wants a planet destroyed by wars etc? I am just not that optimistic. But history teaches us that humans unite more easily in the face of danger, no matter what are their differences... So, who knows what might happen :) Anyway - we are really off topic. :)

DeathCore 24-06-2004 07:04 PM

Okay, back on topic...
I have the original CD with voices and music :D

Anonymous 18-07-2004 08:45 AM

I seem to have a very similar game called Judgement Rites...

The Niles 18-07-2004 03:00 PM

Judgement Rights is the sequal to 25th. I would love to put it up but I have only the CD version and that one is too large for the site. If you have a smaller version and would like to supply it please let us know.

FreeFreddy 18-07-2004 08:33 PM

I have Judgement Rites and compressed it's only 17.5 MB. I never played the game though and don't know if it is full or if it's missing something.

The Niles 18-07-2004 08:44 PM

That sounds about right. We should put that in the upload que. It's a great game.

FreeFreddy 18-07-2004 08:50 PM

But the bandwidth is through the roof or something (don't know how that is called correctly), like I heard. So inform me when all is ok again and I should upload the game :)
Anyway, this is my 500th post! YAY! :D
Lol, the title is only game wizzard... How boring... :|

The Niles 19-07-2004 10:40 AM

That problem should be resolved some time soon.

wendymaree 03-08-2004 10:42 AM

I really liked the idea of playing an original Star Trek game, and I had a little thrill hearing the theme while watching the Enterprise soar across the starscape. But the sky fights, for me, aren't as enjoyable. The second one, with the cloaked Romulan starship, ends every time with the Enterprise going up in flames, which means I can't advance. Frustrating.

But thank you, Kosta, for providing this terrific piece of memorbillia.

Who wouldn't want to live on a starship...? But being one of the Jedi would be the penultimate.

Tom Henrik 03-08-2004 01:55 PM

Nice avatar, there!

Way to go Wendy! :D

wendymaree 03-08-2004 02:14 PM

Thanks, Dr Tom. It's from an awesome painting in an Elfwood gallery...I forget the name of the artist. And thanks for remembering my name. I really like this site. Everyone is made to feel at home. *Unpacking the suitcase*

Sure thank him. He did none of the work but he gets the credait :) .

About the second fight you always lose. Is this immidiately after you get your first mission and go to warp? If so you need to go to the correct destination. Look for it in the file that has been provided with the game.

wendymaree 04-08-2004 05:25 AM

Sorry about that, Picard. Great to discover another Trekie fan. You did a fantastic job on the Star Trek: 25th Anniversary review, btw. Are you a writer? It was very professional. And thanks for the tip! :D

Maikel 04-08-2004 09:08 AM

no...the pizzard is dutch. enough said

No, I'm not a professional writer but thanks for the compliment. 8)

watch closely.... cloaked ship can be spotted. it creates kind of blackhole effect (curves the light a bit).

but last fight in game is really too much.....

wendymaree 05-08-2004 07:51 AM

Oh, good tip on the faint silhouette of light effect, thanks Gregor. Unfortunately, my monitor shows only the lightest lights and little contrast as it's on the way out. I'm bidding for others through Australian Ebay, so hopefully will succeed soon. If not....anyone here who lives downunder with a monitor to sell?

xndr2181 05-08-2004 10:35 PM

Judgement Rites!

I love both of the versions they created for the old star trek, anniversery special and judgement rites. I found I actually enjoyed judgement rites more though, probably because of the lack of space combat which I agree with most people was ridiculous. I'm really glad that this game is on the site though, cause I do so love it. I just hope judgement rites soon follows :P
-Sean

gregor 06-08-2004 05:45 PM

they couldn have made the fight more tactical. it would be more star trek that way.

I agree, but I guess for the time it was created, the graphics and tactical aspect of games was much more limited. Personally I wish I could just skip that aspect. It would have been nice if they allowed you to skip it if you wanted to, that way the people who enjoyed that aspect of the game could do it, and the people who didn't like it could just skip it.

danron1376 26-11-2004 07:50 AM

This is a great game for anyone who is a Trekkie. The adventure plays out like a few episodes in a season, instead of having one overriding plot. The spaceship combat might be a little too 'actiony' for those who are into traditional adventure games, however. For one, the fight mechanics plays out like you're in a Wing-Commander game of fighters against fighters, instead of realistically portraying huge starship vs. starship battle. Great game nonetheless. I'd give it an 8.5

Guest 03-01-2005 05:06 PM

how do I use my phaser when im beamed down on the planet?

Uesato 07-02-2005 12:37 AM

It was not that difficult to win the last battle. I died a lot, then thought "What would Kirk do?" - well, he would reprogram the game so he could win, but I am not a programmer, and could not do it. Then thought - "It's a stupid primitive A.I. who pilots the ships. It will not handle with unpredictable actions. " Then I just stopped the ship. The 2nd Enterprise goes crazy when you do it. It's pilot tries all time to go behind you - when you are in movement, you need to perform a circunference to fly around, but when stopped you just turn on your own axis and you are now looking to the other side, and the 2nd Enterprise will not face you, he will try to fly around to get your back, but you will turn on your own axis again and get there before him.

But you need first kill the two pirates. The pirates will face you, but their ships are weaker. If you stop, and aim to one of them, it will fly direct to you, shooting. You will do the same and he will explode, but you will be crap. Then save the game and run away - evasive action. Don't try to hunt the other two ships until Scotty fixes the ship. When your Enterprise is brand new again, stop and shoot the other pirate to death, then save, run away, fix the ship, stop, save, and do that tactic I quoted above.

The problem is: I just got 50% in this mission, and I can't figure why. Was the admiral looking my battle tactics and found my "stop tactic" stupid? Or I could have solved the mission without a battle? Or I forgot to do something important in the Republic? (I scanned all the bridge, and let McCoy save the girl).

If someone have a hint on this...

Sammo 08-02-2005 03:35 PM

Woah, that brings back a lot of memories... ;)

A great game: I was a proud owner of the special edition with the voice acting, too bad now it's no more in my possession. :ranting:

It was a very nice point-and-click adventure, faithful to the series (yes, as the reviewer cleverly pointed out, this could be a little drawback...but for a fan perspective, it was just fine!) and, more important, very playable and not strictly linear. You gotta LOVE the bomb-beaming trick! :D

As for the fighting part, well... quite frankly it sucked: almost killed the game for me!

As a sidenote, I must add that I've never played the Rites add-on, it was never sold here in Italy. If you guys will upload it in the future, for sure it will be a great addition to your site!

Bye!
Sammo from Italy

TheChosen 24-02-2005 12:04 PM

Anyone who owns the anniversary edition help me! I cant make the sound work :help: .

This game is pretty cool, but the ship-combat is far from real. They fly like X-wings  .

bor 24-02-2005 04:04 PM

what form of computer u have also when setting up I did auto configure and made sure all the areas were green showing sound card.

Sebatianos 24-02-2005 04:16 PM

I have CDs of 25th and JR - and in DOSBox they both work fine (sound and all). I use DOSBox version .63 and I mount the CD drive with this command: mount d X:\ -t cdrom (X is the letter for the CD rom drive you have - usually D, E, F).

Parkingtigers 07-03-2005 12:29 AM

Wow, I had forgotten this one. I had the enhanced version with the actual voice acting, and you could tell how *old* the actors were. Still great fun though. This was yet another of those games that just stopped dead at one point, and without things like the Internet to turn to for help, that meant the end of gaming back in those days. Looking forward to having a second go at this one, although, I think I'm going to miss the voices ...

dondaggi 09-05-2005 11:05 AM

Hat jemand die letzte Mission geschafft, wo man gegen 2 Elaisi-Piraten und eine Nachgebaute Enterprise kämpft? Ich hab echt alles Probiert..

Did someone pass the last battle? I got always destroyed by the elasiships and this rebuilt Enterprise.

Sebatianos 09-05-2005 03:37 PM

Well my tactic is simple and it worked (but not always). That battle is difficoult.
I have low speed (you change the speed of Enterprise with the numbers). When an enemy ship is flaying toward me I speed up and start shooting (so they don't shoot me too much), but when they pass I reverse the speed (I think it's the "0" key). Then I can target the enemy ship while moving away from me and if I go to full speed I can shoot at them, while they are turned away - so they can't fire back!

Ah - my German is bad...

The Fifth Horseman 10-05-2005 09:26 AM

It depends. Sometimes you get a starting position such that you can get a fair few torpedo and whatnot shots at E II.

Thats battle is really hard, but doable (dozen times myself)

efthimios 01-06-2005 07:37 PM

I am 100% against removing the ESA games from the site. You can't have the downloads that is fine (well, no, but...) but if I wanted just to download games I would get them in other ways. One of the best features of this site is the reviews, technical info and forums.
And yes, I know that those are not one, but, yes, ok.

le_dartagnan 14-07-2005 04:00 PM

HI,

I tried to play this game using Dosbox v063, installation is no problem. However, once I try to play the game, I seem to have a video problem and also there is a problem with my DS 4163B DVD ram.

The Fifth Horseman 15-07-2005 11:27 AM

Try messing with Dosbox.conf, it might give you solution. Also remember that good users carefully read their readmes!

inotoni 15-10-2005 05:32 PM

Ahh, ST:25thAnn was one of my first CD games. Trekkie like me must loved the story. Graphic a bit blocky though. Dialogue texts' too big. I have the same combat tactic like Sebatianos for every fight. Back then original voice cast was something incredible. I was hoping that the sequel, ST:JR, used better engine, but it didn't n kind disappointing. Just like watching 8 never-before-seen episodes! Great atmosphere.

Guest 16-11-2005 05:39 PM

i got problem, i dont know how on dosbox do key "-" becouse on that 2-3 mission you need input code...

inotoni 17-11-2005 09:47 AM

Really? Methink ur physical keyboard layout is different from the keyboard driver intended to be. Try guessing the symbol "-" with other key, because it maybe displaced.

Try "A final Unity" if you like this...

inotoni 18-11-2005 02:58 AM

Good advice! :D Already finished STTNG:AFU more than 3X back then. Love the options of changing away team members. The battle's too rigid for my taste. The ending mission 's too straightforward.

They don't make pure adventure Trek games anymore so I guess we have to settle with other story-substance genre like Elite Force or The Fallen.

Haarmensch 13-01-2006 08:09 PM

I really had fun playing this game. For one: the voices of the cast: I'm a trekster and it was just a thrill to hear their voices coming out of my then new speakers.

And second of all: at a certain point I got stuck in the game. Couldn't find a password of some sort for opening a cave. But I so wanted to finish the game I ran through all the files of the game in order to find some hint as to what to do (remember: No googling "Star Trek 25th Anniversary" yet!) :wall:

Using the search function of my dos editor (thank God for that one!) I managed to find the solutions. Aahh those were the days :D

The Fifth Horseman 31-03-2006 11:06 AM

The Fifth Horseman 08-06-2006 03:04 PM

That's a form of copy protection, IIRC. Just click anywhere and it should work, if your copy was cracked.

I remember playing this game a long time ago. I remember that Kirk and co. said stuff, and you could hear it, but this version I cannot get the audio to work. I have Music and SFX, but no voice.

I am I just recalling wrongly? Or can someone help me fix my problem?

H?m.... you haven't read the review, have you?
Here's the last paragraph of it:

Quote:

On an interesting side note, one year after the release of Star Trek: 25th anniversary, Interplay released an enhanced cd-rom version of this game. On it all the dialogue in the game is spoken by the actors themselves, very much increasing the involvement of the player in the action. If you ever run across a copy of this cd-rom I recommend you buy it. It will be well worth your money.[/b]
As you can deduct, this isn't that "enhanced cd-rom" version....

Yes, when i try to open it says " There was an error opening this document, The veiwer can not decrypt this document."

Do you have the latest version - 7.0? Maybe you need to upgrade your Acrobat Reader?

The Fifth Horseman 01-09-2006 03:32 PM

Yup, looks like an outdated version or a corrupt file.

For starters, try redownloading the manual from here, then try those at www.replacementdocs.com and www.the-underdogs.info .

If you cannot open either of these, update your Acrobat Reader (or Adobe Reader, whatever the hack it's called now) to the latest version.

Did you guys ever get Judgement Rites on this site?

I never did get a chance to play it back when it first came out.

I have the Original StarTrek 25th Anniv. game in Dos floppies.

Was/is a great game. I often look back at these old games and wonder how, with all the new graphics and technology we have today, why no one can design a game as good as these old VGA originals?

The Fifth Horseman 18-09-2006 02:02 PM

Judgment Rites is listed on the Oldwarez List as Abandoned. This means we can put it up on the site, if a suitably small version (or CD-RIP) is found.

TheChosen 20-09-2006 08:21 AM

Hmm.... Judgement Rites is only 30mb and it doesnt require CD.

The Fifth Horseman 21-09-2006 02:54 PM

Talkie or non-talkie version?

Non-talkie.

If im correct, there are no voice actors in this game, so it doesnt have a talkie version.

The Fifth Horseman 22-09-2006 11:29 AM

Sounds like a suitable additon.

This is an excellent game. It deserves at least a 4 out of 5. It's the kind of game that is still entertaining. Back then it was amazing having an adventure game and space combat simulator in one. And the variations of different actions you can take adds a good amount of replayability since sometimes there isn't a wrong way to do things, but there is always the BEST way. And while I'm not a die-hard trekkie, I can tell it does a good job at capturing the essence of the show, and I wish they made more than two games. I think adventure games are the strong suit of the Star Trek universe and it's a mistake creating action oriented games when the series was really about exploration. And this game successfully blended combat and exploration into a great game.

Krustacean 01-10-2006 03:22 PM

I haven't played much of this but what I have was quite good. Not really a Star Trek fan but I have a knack for the Future's Past console game.

I used to love them years ago but these days I'm just bored of them...

can you help me? it's umm... aaa... you see then i put... i i mean use emergency power ii't says i don't have enough power  . what should i do?

my point is, if i can't use emergency power, i can't get away from that fake enterprise, and believe me, then i'm hit i need to get away. WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS GAME?! EVEN THEN I'M AT FULL POWER AND NO HITS I CAN'T USE EMERGENCY POWER! IS THIS GAME A CRACK WHERE THERE ARE NO EMERGENCY SWITCH AND MR. SCOTT SAYS THAT THERE'S NOT ENOUGH POWER SO HE WOULD GET OUT OF TROUBLE?! this must be a bug or something?!.   <_<

The Fifth Horseman 04-01-2007 02:13 PM

You can use emergency power. Of that I'm pretty sure.

Also, the trick in the final fight is to hit the fake Enterprise first - as hard as possible - and then just keep pummeling it.

Mousazz 13-01-2007 08:02 PM

I've won the game!!!!!! heres the tips at last battle :brain: :brain: :brain: :

breddel will always try to outflank you! use that to your advantage think... of course! if you stop and try to look at him he'll try to go around you! shoot him!

he'll sent reinforcements (two elasi ships). now what to destroy first? elasi pirates? no, the enterprise-2 will destroy you (remenber, it's the same replica with new strong gun). destroy enterprice two? you'll get heavy fire from the enemy (two elasi ships) but this might be crazy enough to work! however, sometimes it's "better luck next time", so keep trying!

if you destroy enterprice, aim for the elasi, if necessary use emergency power (figured out what's wrong :D ). first repair engines, then sensors

sorry, i didn't known how to use the emergency power. my fault. for everyone else:
emergency power helps you to fly faster if your engines are damaged (i fought it'll boost your speed, so you could get away from enemy) also: if you'r using em. power mr.scott will say: "i don't know how long she can take it captain", if not: "she can't take it captain". hope that helps

p.s. found a bug. then you'll be fighting breddel, in your bridge there will be bones mccoy. if you click on him there would be an error: " error, can't be here, shutting game" and game shuts (only game, not dosbox)

Mousazz 20-01-2007 11:47 AM

:brain: :brain: :brain: . I had terrific results then won this third time (you know, then at end admiral gives you a shore leave and suggest i should be admiral). here's what you have to do (this will give you spoilers, so please, read at your own risk) :

demon world, 3 commendation points:
when you start, fight and win against uss republic, and go to pollux 5. enter orbit, talk to uhura, spock, and and land. talk to prelate angiven and say 2,1,1 and go to lower building. use McCoy on wounded man. go out, then north, and prepare your phasers for stun. then klingons appear, shoot them from left to right. take hand. go north. take berries. go south twice, then to upper building. use spock on ardak-4, then on computer, then on display. say 3,2,1,5,6 and take display. then take most left thing and most right thing and press exit button. use hand on stephen, then on desk, then use berries on stephen and ardak-4. go outside and to lower building. use hypo-detoxin on chub, then talk to everyone. go outside and north three times, use kill phaser on big boulder, then on rocks. examine door, panel, and rocks to left or right use med. kit on kandrey, then hand on panel. go north. use tricorder on everything, then use panel, and set everything on medium (so only one red, one yellow, and one blue light would be light up). then say 2,1 and examine crio chamber. use skull on naunian and say 1 then use key.

i somehow got 4 commendation points, but don't know how.

vengeance, 100%, four commendation points

if you won't tricord card slot, go east, and tricord computer, you won't be able to use 100 laser setting.

vengeance, 100% four commendation points.

say 2. use spock on computer, then on command chair, then look and use McCoy on everyone. go south. look at both crew and use McCoy on crew, then talk to woman and teleport back. be ready for final battle. say 1,1,2. save, then raise shields, arm weapons and stop. target breddel and shoot him. he'll call for elasi. if you haven't hit breddel until now, then reload and try again. if he's damaged, keep shooting at him until he's dead. tell scotty to repair engines, use em. power, target elasi, then go at full speed and shoot him. after engines adequately repaired, repair sensors. destroy elasi and game over.

about 88% percent overall game rankings.

i have said how you should destroy elasi and enterprice-2 exactly as i did :) :hammer: .

i have said what i did to win. many things might be unnessesary and i might have forgoten something. don't hesitate to tell me.

go back to sickbay and heal mudd? cause, i didn't had 100% in this mission (its impossible :ranting: ), so i don't know how to get it. i got three commendation points, and even by that result i was proud (spock! we aren't robots! would you want to be captain? well? huh?! :ranting: ). and then i got shore leave status at end, i was proud too (finally, i can have revenge on spock for insulting me  ). and then i think i only got this status cause i got 3 and 4 only. i believe, that if i wouldn't have got this far in "Another fine mess", or it would be another month of exploration (well, spock, are you proud for me  ?).

Can someone help me? I think there's an error in the game or something because I'm stuck in mission 5. When I've beamed back to the ship with the aztec god - the mission seems to reset itself?! The Klingons don't come and when I talk to the crew - they say we should beam down to the planet and find the criminal? So I do and I get stuck with the aztec god and the pit all over again!?
I had, had the non combat patch installed because I was slaughtered in the battles - but I'm still getting no where with the patch uninstalled. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help, please?

Spidey7 14-03-2007 11:41 PM

I LOVED Judgement Rites, and now I'm trying to play the 25th Anniversary edition, but I can't get any sound effects or music out of it. Judgement Rites worked fine, so I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I have run the set up and tried to set it for every sound card option available, but still no dice. I haven't seen anyone else on this board that has had a problem, so if ANYONE knows how I can turn on the sound effects and music I would be eternally grateful. I am dying to play this game, but it's just not the same without the old 70's sounds. I'm running it on Windows XP. Thanks to anyone who can help. Spidey

The Fifth Horseman 15-03-2007 01:39 PM

This is a typical problem. You are trying to run a DOS game in plain Windows - and that, my friend, is not going to work.
DosBox is a better way of running the game - one that ensures the sound to work.
You can download DosBox here.

I advise you to check out the official DosBox FAQ, and particularly this part of it. It is quite helpful for users unfamiliar with DosBox.

An alternate option is VDMSound, which you can get from our programs page.

In either case, the default sound hardware emulation setting which must be matched in game's sound config utility is Sound Blaster 16, IRQ 7, DMA 1, Adress 220h.

Guest 26-03-2007 01:16 AM

Thanks Horseman #5. I got the DosBox to work, but the sound was the same. Maybe it's not the sound that's the problem, but MY expectations of the game. I played "Judgement Rites" first, which had all of the great Alexander Courage music from the 60's show during the game, as well as other neat sound effects (the accurate sound of Phasers and Transporters and Warp engines etc.) When I tried to play the 25th Anniversary all I could get were a few rudimentary beeps and bloops. Not much real music to speak of and a very few weak sound effects. I assumed that something was wrong with the way I had set it up, but it plays the same way on DosBox. Do both games sound the same? Or did they just do a much better job with the sound on "Judgement Rites"? Maybe the 25th is working just fine and I just assumed that it would sound the same as J.R. Has anyone played both? The graphics look the same on both. Is the sound different between the two?

The Fifth Horseman 26-03-2007 01:13 PM

The sound/music should be the same as in Judgment Rites. If they aren't, the game is not configured correctly.

Run the game's setup program and set it to use the values I gave you at the end of my last post.

FuzzlyFerret 19-11-2007 01:05 AM

I'm not sure if this problem has been addressed before, but...

On the third level (Love's Labour Lost), whenever I try to pick up the vent screen from the floor (to obtain the insulation), the "need something to pry this open" message appears, like when it's attached to the wall. When I USE the wrench on the screen, Kirk just puts it back in the wall again. I can't go forward without that insulation. What's going on?

The Fifth Horseman 19-11-2007 06:20 AM

IIRC, the insulation is not in the vent screen but rather in the hole it covered in the wall.

I have the Enhanced CD version of each (with voice-overs) and the sound is pretty much the same. I hadn't realised the audio cues from the series were used in the games until I started going through the TOS DVDs.

I can't get two items to work together. In the second mission, when you're supposed to use the phaser on the welder in order to charge it, it'll simply select the welder without charging it. That is to say, I hit the use button and then select the phaser from the inventory, then I open the inventory back up and hit the welder icon, but instead of using the phaser with the welder, I'm just using the welder itself.

This is especially frustrating because when I was 10, I had no problem navigating this game from start to finish in a matter of hours. Now I can't get past the first level. at first I thought I was having some kind of compatibility/bug issue, but since everyone on here seems to be able to play the game without any major problems, I realize that I must be doing something wrong. Can anyone tell me what insignificant, idiotic, simple thing I've forgotten to do?

I know I'm WAY overdue, but you need to select YOUR phaser, not those junk phasers lying on the ground. They don't have any batteries. If it's not the problem, I don't know anything else.

Gameplay Help

I need help fighting the two enemy ships in level 4 Another Fine Mess. Anyone know any cheats or tips?

Maxor127 05-05-2009 09:33 AM

This game actually made me appreciate the original series. This is about as close as you can get to brand new episodes of the show. The adventure elements are very well done and the game does a good job of retaining the feel of the show. I liked the space combat too even though it's kind of a pain. I can't imagine a real captain fighting like I did. I'd fly in circles full speed until I finally could fire on the enemy.

http://home.flash.net/~rayearle/Sfiles/StrTrk25.html first paragraph gives an excellent tip. Basically when you are chasing near or playing "chicken" with an enemy, press both left & right mouse buttons to fire both laser & torpedos. Once fired immediately hit the D key. This pauses the game, brings up Scottie's damage-control GUI menu which blocks your view... however the laser & torpedos recharge. Just hit ESC key and fire both guns again! and repeat by hitting the D key to recharge your guns.

If you chose one of Scottie's damage-control icons, then your mouse resets to the top-left of the screen. But if you press ESC then your mouse pointer stays at exactly where it was previously. This is useful for bombarding, rapid firing at enemy ships.

Another tip is to press the V key to maximise your view. Plus your turning speed is increased because your mouse pointer is further away from the centre of the screen.

Remember the S & W keys to activate shields & weapons. Remember the INS & DEL keys to roll left & right (and this increases turning speed too).

Scottie always gives names of the damage control icons such as "Shields repaired", "Lasers repaired", "Torpedos repaired", "Sensors repaired", "Bridge repaired", but Scottie never seems to give names of the last two icons... so I don't know their names. But it looks like ships lower body.. and warp drives...

Wow, I love this old game and haven't been able to play it since my parents purchased Interplay's gaming cd with tons of other games on it as well. I still have the original 'cheat' book that came with it, complete with pages of in depth info that does not currently exsist on this site. I have made queries about uploading as I would love to share it with the trekkie community on here, so please let me know how and if I can do so. It would really contribute to the manuel and walk through that are already available on abandonia. :D

red_avatar 13-05-2009 04:55 AM

I had never really seen an episode of the original Star Trek before I bought this game and wow, I was blown away by it. These two games (25th and Judgement Rites) were really what adventure games should have been all about: real logical thinking to solve puzzles instead of trying to guess the singular solution the developer had in mind.

It's really amazing - different crew members can let you have different solutions and you can go for the easy solution at the expense of dropping in rating or you can really try to do everything the right way.

Final Unity later did a similar thing - it's obvious that they tried to mirror these two games (including combat - which was poor in all three games).

I wish we had more adventure games like these, to be honest. Having said that, they're too short if you ask me.

Audio?

I've set Dosbox to use Soundblaster 2 audio, and I've tried PC speaker and SB Pro 2...

No audio.

What am I doing wrong?

Yes, my audio works fine. Running Windows 7 64 bit... could that be an issue?

DOH...

checking "activate sound" in D-Fend Reloaded might just possibly help...

wolfsnake26 25-06-2010 10:01 PM

I don't know if anyone checks this anymore, but here goes.

In the second mission, you are supposed to be able to use one inventory item on the other (the phaser on the welder). Problem is, I can't use ANY inventory items on any other items.

So if I wanted to use the tricorder on the welder, I can't.

I didn't have this problem way back when, but i have it now on two different machines (both running XP).

I've tried doing F11 to slow down the CPU, but nothing works. I've scowered the internet looking for an answer to this, but all i find is the same walkthough that says "use **** on ****".

Anyone have any idea? :flame:

IIRC, it was selecting the first item to use, then opening the inventory and selecting the second item.

So hey, I noticed that the version on this site has the copy protection removed (Like going to different planets on the galactic map used to result in crazy space battles if you went to the wrong place). Is there any way to patch that back in/download a version that still has it?
