Sierra VS Lucasarts
What adventure company do you think its best?
|
I forgot.... :) Name the reasons for your preference also if you like :)
|
I prefer Sierra, this because I've played all the quest games when I was little (space quest, quest for glory, eco quest, king's quest...). The only game I played of Lucasarts when I was little was Monkey Island 1. Perheps I prefer them after I played their other adventure games (sam & max, full trottle..) but right now I think Sierra rules, pure out of nostalgism.
|
LucasArts all the way :) And this is pure nostalgia talking out of me. Monkey Island and Indiana Jones series definitely bring back the best time of my childhood, and playing those games was simply marvelous. Sierra games were too complex in a way. I don't think I've finished any of their text-command adventures, except one Space Quest sequel. My english wasn't good enough, and walking around pointlessly trying out hundreds of text action-place combinations was too frustrating. On the other hand, Monkey Islands, Indiana Jones, Sam & Max, DOTT and similar had an unbeatable atmosphere, and a truly unique and witty sense of humor that I adored. I immersed myself into those games completely and finished them dozens of times. I can never get enough :)
Sorry, got carried away a little :) |
I think that i should post my opinion too... I like Lucasarts games a bit more than Sierra's ones, thats true, but i like the adventures of Sierra very much also... In particular Space quest series of games, and Larry :) From Lucasarts i really loved every game ( the only one i don't like is Monkey island 4 - The only game that should have never been 3D )... Simply because they are more funny than Sierra's ( and have better atmosphere too - Monkey island in particular ). Its the most important thing for a adventure game to be funny i believe... I play over over again, loading old saved games etc of Day of the Tentacle only to see its jokes again :) I don't remember to have done this thing with any sierra game... Anyway... thats my opinion :)

I'll have to say I prefer Lucasarts...
its just more fun to play in my , humble, opinion. |
Adventure games are just plain boring..
sitting watching a 5 minute movie fight 40 fire-witches rest(5 mins..) find a gold key fight 41 rats rest(5 mins..) Find a message "Go west, north, west, south, east, west, north, east, north" Not rememberable find your way somewhere Find its enemy barracks fight 42 enemy soldiers rest(5 mins) fall asleep bored(5 hours) lalala.. |

Well after deliberating for 2 days, I have decided that I just can't vote for this one. I started by playing Sierra games and have brilliant memories of them, although I also couldn't get enough of Monkey Island and Indiana Jones either. So in my books they both rock the same!
|
I suppose we will hear someday that "Diablo" is a adventure too :P :)
|
Hey hey hey, Diablo is a sacred game and it should be discussed in a new topic. It mustn't be discussed in the same topic with other inferior games.
DIABLO RULES 8) 8) 8) |
theres a difference between RPGs and adventures?
|
Yes there is a difference between RPG's and adventures. In pure adventures, combat, level advance of your character, resting and moving from city to city etc do not exist ( except Sierra's "Hero quest" ). You only solve riddles and by solving them you advance the story of the game - much like a interactive movie ( well, sort of ). Diablo is truly a sacred game, but its not a adventure game :) the example that Dany252 gave as a adventure was almost like Diablo, and thats why i stated that. :)

I guess I'm from an older generation but Sierra has to be the all time biggest adventure publisher. Quest for Glory, Space Quest, Gabriel Knight are all classics. They made the market, Lucasarts just jumped in.
|
Sierra, purely because of nostalgia. When i was little, all the adventure games I played were sierra, exept MM and later DOTT. A few years later I got into lucasarts, and now I can't tell which is better, but I'll say sierra cos of yeah, nostalgia.
And from sierra comes Space Quest III. the greatest adventure game ever made. |
man, the quest for glory series really rocked(untill the last one which was a total failure imo). Also the larry series... a great set of games. These are all sierra, so my vote goes to them. The only lucas game I've played and really enjoyed was tie fighter(and some of it's sequels)-it was a great game for it's time.Sierra games seem to have a unique atmosphere to them. That and the jokes that really made you laugh. That is why I think sierra games were better than lucas games.
|
Well it took a bit of time but I see Sierra is catching up. I think this poll is more based on who played which first, quest games (Sierra) or the Mokey Island type games. So it's probably the difference in age then in company that's showing up here.
|
This is what i believe also. After all this isn't a question about if Sierra or Lucasarts is Better, both companies are ( or were ) great - Voting is based more on the personal preference of each gamer.
|
I think Lucasarts are best with Monkey Island and Sam & Max
but they majorly messing up canceling Sam & Max 2 because now eveyone hates them (understandably). |
Lucas all the way... Sam&Max ROX along with MI 1&2....
|
who are sam & max?
|
I hate dying in adventures...and sierra made me die....a lot!
but I did love quest for glory |
Sierra like to kill you in their games, actually it can be fun to see how you will be killed next...
When playing Sierra, remember to save all the time, and keep several save games. This poll is for me a dilemma, because I can not choose between the two... They are both excellent game companies, with completely different feel to their games... |
