:ranting: HOW DO I LAND THE GODDAMN THING!

i get the wheels out, i shut the engine off, and my plane drives all over
the runway and straight into the ocean....and I remember playing this for hours as a kid (have I perhaps actually never landed?)

Mad-E-Fact 06-12-2004 09:56 PM

What I still remember most from playing the game back then are the horrifying screams of the soldiers when you slaughter them with your MG. RATTTTTTTA RATTTTTTTTTA RATTTTTTTTTTA WAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH :rifle:

Its, tricky, but described both in the review and the manual that comes with the game. The trick is to get your plane somewhere above the level of the ship, do NOT turn your engine off, approach with a moderate speed and your nose slightly tilted upwards. As soon as you're above the ship press the UP arrow and keep it pressed. This will make your plane descend but with the nose tilted up. If you timed it right, you will clench onto one of the 4 or 5 hooks on the carrier. Oh, and one more thing, you have to approach the ship from the right, otherwise you can't land! Hope that helped :ok:
Took me a while too, but it isn't impossible ;)

aaberg 07-12-2004 07:04 AM

YES. I remember playing Wings Of Fury all the time on my old dos machine. I installed it and ran it in dosbox not so long ago, but it was just TO UGLY. This is awsome. A version with better graphics and sound :ok:

wormpaul 07-12-2004 08:34 AM

This game is briljant..

Thx Kosta for the windows version :Brain:

Rogue 07-12-2004 04:29 PM

This is port of amiga version, which btw looked like this. (pc version was ugly)

:ok:

Nice game, indeed. Wonder if they coded the same cheats. :D

Seabass 09-12-2004 02:41 PM

Kosta thanks for the schooling I've landed my plane at the 4th try after reading your how to. But can you make pit stops?? since I never seem to able to kill all the japs in one strike and always ran out of bombs and get dameged (that oile dale is a biatch!) but when I land my wee plane on the craft the damn thing dont get fixed rearmed or refuled :ranting:

Kosta 09-12-2004 05:43 PM

You need to get to the starting position (on top of the lift), turn the engine off and press the button you use for dropping bombs. Your plane will descend into the carrier's belly and get refueled / restocked ;)

Hi fellas
I remember of some cheats for Wings of Fury (amiga version and pc version)
But none of these cheats work and all I found in the i-net are for the old pc-version.
Has anybody new cheats for this remake???????

Happy christmas and Frohe Weihnachten @ all

who needs cheats? this game is awesome!!
is there going to be a version that you can run on windows ME?? or do you know any programs i should use to get it work on my system?

wormpaul 11-12-2004 03:55 PM

Try DosBox...

You can find it on the main site

Kosta 11-12-2004 03:58 PM

DosBox won't help here. Its a Windows only game.

To Guest: You should check the official project page. There is a link to it in the extras section and at the bottom of the review!

Cap cuervo 11-12-2004 06:45 PM

Hello to all,

I wish play to wings of fury (PC version), but i don't know the controls !!!!

Can anyone help me with this issue ??????

Thanks in advanced.

Guest_athcnv 11-12-2004 10:47 PM

What version of Direct X does it need? I can't seem to run it. It says something about it's not supported or something.

Hopefully, the problem will be solved by downloading the latest Direct X version (9c) from Microsoft.

athcnv 18-12-2004 07:53 PM

It works with my Windows 98 PC :ok:
BUT not on my XP laptop! :not_ok:

The laptop keeps saying that the display mode is not supported....don't know why

Also, how do you know which way the enemy is? First map, they are on the left, second they are on the right, and 3rd they are on the left.

Flubber 21-12-2004 09:46 AM

the controls are:
turn left - left arrow
turn right - right arrow
up - up arrow
down - down arrow
gear in/out - g
engin on/off - e (with starting you need to press it more than once)
gun - z
bomb - x
repair - x button when you are on the carrierplatform
select weapon when repairing - up and down arrows
select the weapon - x

have fun!

Flubber 21-12-2004 09:49 AM

:help: lvl 3 were you have to destroy the carrier by night is inpassable!
where do i drop the bomb on the ship to make it sink? :help:

athcnv 21-12-2004 05:20 PM

You get given instructions before the 3rd mission - you have to use torpedoes to sink it. Bombs and rockets don't seem to do anything. 3 torps must be dropped, which means at least 3 sorties must be flown. To drop torp successfully, aircraft must be flying level at a low level. 3 bow hits should do the trick.
Also, the remake has only 5 levels! Did the original have enemy aircraft?

Oh yeah, you can sink your own carrier with 2 torps....The game just ends.

This one brings back the good times-- if i cound get her to work. After installing error with d3d9.dll and ddraw.dll.. After filling in a couple of the files I still can't get it to work.. any ideas

Thanks

Guest 14-01-2005 08:09 AM

Wings of Fury actually originated way back in 1988, by Broderbund for the 8-bit Apple II series. IMO, the game play was superior to the later ports for the PC (inlcuding the remake) and Amiga.

Love the idea of a remake though. One had been planned for the 16-bit Apple IIGS series (the Amiga's contempory) but it never appeared.

Guest 26-01-2005 08:00 AM

does anybody know if there are cheats for the new version?

Spawn 26-01-2005 09:49 AM

This question is for Kosta. If you don`t know, but this game is too short, and if you played the Amiga version, you would know that that there are few misions with japs planes that shoot at you... My question is: Where are those misions? (the game is too short/not enough missions :ranting: )

:help: i've tried to land as suggested... every time my plane go into the sea and never stop on the runway. how can i stop over the carrier

Guest 27-01-2005 12:12 PM

I always fall in the sea. How do iget into the sky? when i turn the up or down arrow on the ship while i have a little speed nothing happens.

wormpaul 27-01-2005 02:07 PM

Make sure you get you Landing gears inside...otherwise it's too heavy :ok:

BUFFY 27-01-2005 08:40 PM

It may pay to go into Options > Controls and alter them to suit.

By default to take off first press E untill the engine kicks in then keep pressing left, a couple of metres before the end press left and up.

Default Controls, also stated by Flubber:
e Start/Stop engine
z Machine gun
x Bomb
g Gear Up/Down

To change the type of Plane you have, press X when on the loading zone, press X again to confirm. Also repairs.

Matrix 27-01-2005 08:45 PM

Whoever ported this game over is a god. I've been looking for this on and off for years, I can finally relive the good old days!

You're the man/team/woman!!!

Someone 09-02-2005 06:09 PM

Nothing special. Original is better.

DonCorleone 09-02-2005 06:22 PM

For PC users itīs a big advance. But listening to the sound make amiga users cry out loud: where are the significant screams of enemy soldiers.
Think this one goes into the right direction. But there have to come lots of more levels and sound definetly has to be improved...

Matthew 09-02-2005 06:30 PM

 it is hard to complete the game with only 3 planes...do you know any cheats for the Remake? Please...only for more planes...it is awesome and I want to enjoy it longer :D

jimmythebob 14-02-2005 12:16 PM

I just found out a trick that lets you fly on and on without oil:

Land your plane but from the left side of the ship. As soon as you've landed switch off the engine (usually the 'A' button) and just keep driving with the engine switched off. At the end of the ship you can just start normally and your plane will fly even with the engine being switched off.
From now on the enemy can shoot you and you can even fly through the trees but it doesn't do any damage.
Have fun. :ok:

commodore.com 16-02-2005 12:03 PM

Nice remake but radar shows nothihng-anybody know how to activate it, also camera locks after movement.

xcom freak 18-02-2005 02:29 AM

:help: I STILL dont know how to sink the level 3's battleship i even tried to sink mine but i failed :ranting:
plz someone help!

Mr. Barman 18-02-2005 05:56 AM

you've just got to keep your plane level and as close to the water as possible when you drop your torpedo. i dont think your speed makes a difference. and incase you dont know, it takes hits with a torpedo to take it out

Simon 25-02-2005 07:18 PM

Hi...

I have downloaded this game and I run it from windowsXP.

The game works fine but i can't take off from the hangar ship.

I am using the left arrow and up arrow and I have turned the engine on but the plaine will not move.

Anyone knows this problem? :not_ok:

Dreadlord 25-02-2005 07:38 PM

Ahah, I died before anything happened, this game is fun.

Guest_JanM.L 11-03-2005 11:12 AM

Hey, I discovered an annoying thing in the Remake:

The game is great, but when I was scorehunting yesterday I really got disappointed. When you complete the 3rd mission "mission impossible" the game ends and your score won't be inserted into the highscore list. This is something :not_ok: .
But compliment on the one who created the game. It is really better than the original. :ok:

 So Great to have my ol friend back. I logged untold hours on this game with my C-64. It took me a week or so to get a handle of it again and to configure my keys correctly. Then , Tonite , I was Shocked to find out ....I got over 20,000 without shooting down a single jap plane....I had reached the end of the Game? This Never happened in the original??? It was like finding the end of the internet!!!!I would suggest you guys get busy... Where are the Zero's , Where are the Torpedo planes ( remember the little Red arrows that would indicate to you what direction the enemy attack planes where comming from?), and if they torpedoed your ship three times you lost your ship. Yes my friends we have a lot more work to do. Now please... go to the fridge ... grab a brew...AND FINNISH REMAKING THIS GAME. So that we can get on with making the European Theater.... Thanx , it was fun while it lasted :bye:

sugaki 28-03-2005 07:25 PM

Being a fan of the Apple II version, noticed a couple things.

1) Your oil leaks way too easily. The AA gunners are too accurate and do too much damage. At a full speed dive usually the gunners don't hit at all in the original game--in this one they usually have your oil leaking after a single pass. The accuracy needs to be decreased. AA gunners also rarely score hits in mid-altittude, but in this you need to be at high altittude.

2) No Japanese torpedo planes (it's spelled "torpedo" too). After awhile a red arrow shows up signaling that a plane's going to make a torpedo run.

3) When destroying an AA emplacement, if the emplacement is at the corner of the island then the soldiers always run away from the shoreline and into a nearby AA emplacement. In this game they are seen running towards the shore and doubling back.

4) Infantry dies when you crash your plane into them. Another tactic in the original, if you plane was about to die you'd crash it into a bunch of people--one of the more satisfying aspects of the game.

5) Loops make the game harder to play--controls are a lot more complex with the loop, and it changes how dogfights would play out (keep turning until the other guy bugs out).

Brings back memories though. Nice job overall.

PS (powerful is spelled with a single "l")

Guest 31-03-2005 09:22 PM

I cant seem to run the game at all it says wings of fury has caused an error in WINGS OF FURY .EXE what could be the problem

Henry San 02-04-2005 06:42 PM

Thank you Kosta! You make me remind when i and my brother play this fantastic game in the 90`, when we have the first PC (386 or 486 i think) that release in Argentina.

God, how i love it!

Keep the feeling alive people!

xzoleex 14-04-2005 08:50 AM

Jan_Ho 23-05-2005 11:17 PM

?verytime I try to start they game, it says that it's missing a certain DLL file. I use Win98, could that be the reason? Did anyone else encounter this problem?

Tommaginho 24-05-2005 08:15 PM

Got the same problem, but my PC runs with Win XP. I don't know how to solve it.

Mojo2000 24-05-2005 11:27 PM

Guest 26-05-2005 07:13 AM

Is it possible to save as you go along in this game?

Guest 03-06-2005 06:55 AM

I actually got thru all stages of the version I got off this site (used the cheat listed above). There are only about 6 stages & unfortunately none seem to involve dogfighting other aircraft - it's all island/ship attacking.

Radar does n ot work. Also had same DLL prob with Win 98, but not with XP on laptop.

Argith Nuei 05-06-2005 07:55 PM

 So youre saying that the remake only has six levels? Havent gotten around to play it yet. But still this is THE best game that ever existed for the amiga.
The theme music seems to come back to mind every day it seems. A true masterpiece of a musical score. :Brain:

zoz 09-08-2005 06:34 PM

Can anybody help me? I tried to run on my laptop with Windows XP and it says 'NEEDED DISPLAY MODE NOT SUPPORTED'. What should I do?
Thank you!

Oh can someone tell how to download?i dont know please say how can i download this game. Plz :ranting: :blow:

Guest_guest 22-10-2005 12:03 PM

i cant play it. it says d3d9.dll file is missing. it tried it on a win98 and xp os, it says reinstalling may solve problem but i installed it 5 times already :wall:

Guest 22-10-2005 12:22 PM

This remake is a very bad one. The best wayto have fun with WoF is playing the amiga version with an emulator.

Sonu 26-10-2005 04:13 PM

[font=Arial] Well, really a nice game just started playing... and well i m on windows me and to the guy a few posts above this... i dont think there is any problem in running it on windows me... can u tell us the exact problem u hav?? ... anyways thanks for the games

Klesk 29-10-2005 02:07 AM

This remake is awesome!! But it has a problem: enemy planes don't take off, they just remain still on the carrier. Do anybody know how to solve this problem??

Doubler 29-10-2005 10:53 AM

That feature hasn't been implemented yet.
It might be quite a while before the game's updated too, as the creator has to redesign the game from scratch :)
Linky

Gurney Halleck 30-11-2005 09:18 AM

Superb Game. I just beat it and it was extremely fun. Landing IS hard but you can do it, just read the manual and remember that pressing "up" with landing gear down makes the plane go down with the nose up. Did that make sense? Anyways cheers to the makers and the folks at Abandonia . Keep up the good work!

Guest 04-01-2006 12:11 PM

:help:
This game is so wicked, but there are only 5 levels!!
Are there some more??
Please tell me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:help:

punch999 04-01-2006 01:02 PM

It's a old game so there aren't many.

Doubler 04-01-2006 01:18 PM

This is the remake, Punch :)

At the moment there are no more, and it might take a while before a new version shows up. The creator found the old code (the code this game is programmed in) insufficiant to implement all his ideas, and started from scratch.

There's an interview on AR that offers some more info on that, if anybody's interested :)

Schayk Jamal 11-04-2006 04:43 PM

Hallo.... Designer

Guest_luke_* 26-12-2006 10:04 AM

ok i :wallbash: run it n it doesnt load up properly after the disk amiga loading screen theres nuthing... ne ideas? :sos:

The Fifth Horseman 27-12-2006 10:42 AM

It seems you are trying to run the game in plain Windows. I strongly suggest you use DosBox instead.
You can download it here.

You might want to check out the official DosBox FAQ, and particularly this part of it. It is quite helpful for users unfamiliar with DosBox.

Sharpy 05-06-2007 05:32 PM

I loved the game on the amiga 500 it rocked so long a u used a joystick, i'v now got it for the pc and i can't take off there's no manual.

z3rog 13-06-2009 02:41 PM

i kinda like the original i played on amiga a little more, where you could fake turn to lure enemy aircrafts.. And the intro music is way better in the original :P

But still, the remake is really good
