Kings Quest VII - The Princeless Bride [GoG]
I've noticed that the tail end of certain Sierra series are not on the site, specifically King's Quest 7 and Space Quest 6. I just checked the Sierra website, and I'm reasonably sure that these titles have been abandoned (amazon had only used copies). I already own King's Quest 7 (though I've been using a 68k mac emulator to run it. Silly Windows.), but I remember Space Quest 6 fondly, and when I tried to purchase it back when it was new it wouldn't run on my old performa, so I returned it and got some other stuff, so now I'd really like to see it show up on some abandonware sites, but it seems that it is missing, for no reason that I can see, since it is quite old and seemingly abandoned.
Anyway, I've just found this site, and it seems like a great community and I plan on staying around. I thought I'd never again see Hand of Fate (Legend of Kyrandia 2), and I did love that game so much. And I furthermore didn't care to spend $100+ to get King's Quest Collection secondhand. |
Sierra is very protective about their old games. And ESPECIALLY the last game in any series. That is why the last "episodes" are not on this site.
|
And Sierra will follow that path for the coming years...
It's hard but fair from their side  |
I know a site (not an abandonware site, just one dedicated to Space Quest) that has Space Quest 1-6 up for download.
It is so easy to find I doubt it would still be up without Sierra's permission. |

Everyone should check his site out (especially if you want the manuals ;)) |
yep
That it. I especially wanted the manuals. LOL Actually I found Space Quest 6 to be the worst of the series. Mostly cause of it's numerous bugs. :wall: |
Well, thanks for the information, and especially for the link. I'm rather depressed that people who haven't played KQ7 will have to seek out on ebay if they wish to play it, because it's one of my favorites.
|
I got KQ7 a few years ago in a Value Soft package. It's called "volume.five.1" and contains KQ7, Ancient Evil, Lords of the Realm II and Fields of fire. Worth it for ?5.00 GBP.
|
Was KQ7 were you played as the Queen or something. Or just an old woman in a blue dress and you started in the desert with the plant and the water the stone mouth?
I heard of a KQ8 about 3 years ago. It looked a bit like Morrowind, was this ever finished? or was the project abandoned? |
Yeah, KQ7 had you play as Queen Valanice and Princess Rosella. I must admit, it wasn't the best one. KQ3 was my favorite ;)
|
KQ8 was finished, but I don't think anyone on Abandonia would approve. It's not actually an adventure game in the sense that the rest of them were. It had a lot of action elements (fighting and such), and it was fully 3D.
And if KQ7 isn't the best, I can't wait to get through the others (though I have to admit, I probably won't be able to play through three and four. I do care SOMEWHAT about prettiness.). But I have to finish Hand of Fate first. |
I'd say four was my favourite but I haven't played them all. I only played 3, 4, 6, and a little bit of 7.
|
I`m a big fan os Sierra, too.I have this great game King`s Quest 8:Mask of Eternity and it`s one of the best game I`ve ever played. You should play it rightaway. :ok:
|
Yeah, somehow I don't think that will happen.
|
:D I loved KQ4 as it was by far the most difficult! But the VGA remake of KQ1 was pretty good too.. I've played all except KQ8, and i have to say that KQ7 was totally dissapointing and a complete waste of time!
|
I don't think KQ7 was a waste of time; I thought it had a great plot and continued the story well, as well as changing the character from the usual Alexander and King Graham to Rosella and Valanice. Plus the graphics are totally different, which I think adds variety to the whole series of Kings Quest. But I do agree that Kings Quest 8 is separate from the series. I like it, but in a different way from the original 7.

King's Quest 7
Is there a reason King's Quest 7 isn't on the site? It's a '94 game and I dont think Sierra will put up much of a fight anymore, considering they were closed down by Vivendi Universal (I'll never forgive that worthless rat of a company). Can it be uploaded and made to work without the CD, or is it too big, or what?
If its possible, I have a copy just sittin here collecting dust that I'd be willing to share. |
Tom has written somewhere that Kings Quest 7 is not abandonware. Anyway, as far as this site is concerned, it's way too big.
But thanks for offering to share. :) |
and it sux, if compared with it's predecessors. :tomato:
|
I'm surprised you'd think that. I thought it was the best of the lot. What about the awesome graphics and great story?

King's Quest VII: The Princeless Bride [SOLD]
This has been torturing me for the last couple of days. My memory isn't all that good to begin with. I only remember a few things about this game and I'll explain all that I can remember and perhaps, someone will recognize the game from this description.
Around 1986(-3 + 5yrs). Cartoon like animation. PC(DOS or Early Windows). I think it was a 1st person perspective. The mood was cutesy-scary. Not really scary, but cartoon-like scary. More amusing than anything. Notable Scenes. 1. Standing in front of a house. House has a mailbox & white picket fence. Sometimes the guy would be home, other times not. When I did get to go inside the house, I entered what appears to be an office. Maybe a guy in a chair to talk to and he gives some info. 2. There was a tree that had a branch that would sometimes be bent down. This was an indicator of something else happening. I think there was this bad guy who would assault you by a gravesite or from behind a tree and if the tree branch was bent down, that was an indication that he wasn't there. This is the most distinctive thing I remember best about the game(that stupid tree branch). 3. There was this treehouse/treefort with 2 brats up there who would abuse you/perhaps throw things at you. Anyway, at certain times, they would be gone and you could go up into the house via a rope that would be let down from the middle of the floor. 4. Just passed a crypt, on a path, going up to a small hill, a horseman would appear, from over the top of the hill, flying right towards me. I think that was also the key to the game. If you could somehow hitch a ride with that guy(maybe a prince???) on the horse, you won the game. 5. There was a cemetery with 9 graves(i think). 1 was freshly dug and I think you could fall down into it. 6. A guy on a bulldozer. 7. I think I recall being trapped in a grave or something. Standing upright. There was a sequence of things to do to release yourself. Well, any other memories might just be mixing up scenes from other games. I know it's a long shot, but I hope there is someone out there who can remember what I'm trying, very vaguely & poorly, to describe. |
CGA, EGA or VGA graphics?
Also, did it have sound? If so, was it via PC Speaker (aka "the buzzer" or an actual soundcard)? |
Well, I'm currently playing Kyrandia, Book 1(Fables & Fiends) and I believe it would have been similar to it as far as the graphics & sound go.
|
A lot of those details make me think of King's Quest 7: A Princeless Bride.
If you look at screenshot 5 here - http://www.sierraplanet.com/kingsquest7/goodies.html - is that the treehouse with 2 brats? EDIT - Some more shots http://www.mobygames.com/game/robert...de/screenshots :) |
some of those seem to be kings quest 4 and some 3 but its obviously a more modern world

1986 is too early for Kyrandia-style (VGA) graphics. '86 would be CGA, at most EGA (but very unlikely).

Do you remember anything about the interface? Point & click, clickable icons, text input etc? Was there a lot of text? Any animations, or static scenes only? The only game the description reminds me of is Eric the Unready and similar, but those are text adventures where the interface is heavily dominated by text panels. |
Yes, I just found out that it is, indeed, Kings Quest 7. I've been playing both Kyrandia & Kings Quest 7 using the walkthroughs so I could get through them as fast as I could because I was wondering if I was mixing up scenes as I feared. I just now began chapter 4 of Kings Quest 7 and lo & behold, it's all right there. And then I go and look up KQ7 and see that it came out in 1994 and I'm thinking, I'm going to end up like my grandmother on Moms side who is in a nursing home with altzheimers. It's so frustrating, I'm only 47 and my memory is sooooo bad.
Anyway, thanks to everyone for their time. P.S. If anyone needs any help with Kyrandia Book 3(Malcolm's Revenge), I got it working with sound and everything the other day. Took me a good 3 days. I'd be glad to offer anyone assistance. Lemme know. I'm running a fairly modern PC, with XP Pro, Media Center Edition, fwiw. |
