I bought all 3 of the LN games when they came out originally for the C64, the best of the bunch in my opinion is LN2. When it was released here in the UK in 1988 it shipped with a pullover cloth ninja mask and a rubber Shuriken! Being the silly sort of teenagers me and my mates were, we donned are masks and shuriken stars and went for a walk round town. We thought it was funny, needless to say the police didn't!!

I disagree with the opening comment in the review however, that LN was the best C64 game. That would be doing a dis-service to such classics as Ballblazer,The Eidolon, Mecenary and The Sentinel. It was a true classic though and I would highly recommend it, although the control system is little tricky to start with, after some perseverence it's very rewarding game.

As a side note, there was also a game based on the same engine also released by System 3 for the C64 called Vendetta. I would recommend it to anyone who has a C64 emu and has completed the LN series of games.

Check this link out for yourselves.

But im still not getting into the controls. Anyone got the button layout for me?

I disagree with the opening comment in the review however, that LN was the best C64 game.

I said "one of the best" and i doub that someone who played it back then on C64 can denie this.

I also agree with gameguru - this should not be played !!!!

Magic will exist in our minds and it is unwise to dispell it

Guest 08-11-2005 06:54 PM

for me what stood out in LN2 on C64 was the music, the best i've ever heard in a computer game (ever!)

Little talker 03-05-2006 08:46 AM

A geeky note: LN is far from being the first isometric game. British software company Ultimate developed an isometric technique named 'filmation' for ZX spectrum games like Alien8 or Knight Lore.
cheers

Ok, after reading the review and looking for any readme files, I have to ask: What are the keyboard controls here, for LN1? I know how to make the guy run, but I have no idea whatsoever, how to make him jump or fight or anything but run.

EDIT:

CONTROLS FOR LN2:

Numpad 1-9 (except 5) movement

Shift numpad 4, 6 or 8 punch
Shift numpad 2 kick
Shift numpad 1 or 3 pick up
Shift numpad 7 or 9 pick up/push (?????)

Guest 27-06-2007 07:12 PM

:D Hi. I downloaded this game cause I like ninja games. But please specify what the controls are and please tell me how to resolve the first areas.

I will be very pleased if someone would help me. :sos:

Thank you. :D

Good games, especially the first part, but far from being between the best, even if the videogame magazines told otherwise. Remember Turrican or Maniac Mansion. LN hardly plays in the same league.

Your oppinion, and I will not challenge that, but in my opinion, comparing MM and LN is like comparing the movies Terminator and Fried Green Tomatoes. It's just unfair to both the movies.

bobson 17-07-2007 05:08 PM

Mighty Midget is right - these are really diffent games.

I remember playing the first part on my C64 ... I think i need to get a decent joystick ... some arcade style for all these old-school games I used to play on C64 ...

Was LN3 ported to PC ??

JJXB 17-07-2007 05:18 PM

no bob, it wasn't. still prefer playing the c64 versions using PSPVice to relieve the memories on the move :). my nan still has the c64 anyway so i might ask to have it at some point in the future (it even has the 1541 disk drive :P)

Yeah, i remember those games, guess i'm little geeky too. I also guess i got carried away when reviewing this. Still, isometric view wasn't much used back then. Never mind.

I never got into LN3 and i tried more than once. I walked all across the first level, trying to do whatever i couldpossibly think of but without luck. I found all the weapons but don't know what to do to finish the level.

As for Vendetta, i had that game, and it seemed fantastic when first saw it, but also couldn't figure out what to do and i also tryed more than once. Only the fist four screen. I couldn't fire no weapons too, only used hands and knife. There was something blinking in each screen that made me wonder, but still no success...

Luchsen 10-07-2009 03:58 PM

Since the pack got splitted into the two separate games, this thread just became the thread for the first part. :D
