Problems with downloading
 

Dear Abandonia,

Thank you! You guys are wonderful. All the games from my childhood that I lost due to weather, moving out, little sister, etc are right here!

Yesterday I went on a small hunting spree on your site and downloaded a few of my old games...

but today I tried to download 1 more and couldn´t. When i click the little "Get It!" sign the website just stalls on loading!

I tried this with different browsers and with different games: I am not able to download anything from your site right now... if i try the link just causes me to stall on its load.

Is this my fault for downloading stuff? Do I have a limit? Or is your website having issues?

Dont worry. Its normal. Some of the games are still sold, so those cant be downloaded.

Sorry Boxleitner, no news yet, but be patient. If the server is down it may be for a ton of different reasons but you can count on this: Those able to fix this are looking into it and doing whatever they can to get it solved. It may take a minute or it may take a while, so all we can do is wait. Still, there are always these forums. Feel free to roam around and take part in it :)

Have you tried to let the page load even if it takes a very long time?

I´m sorry to pressure you. Obviously no one should be in a hurry to download anything off the internet, but the truth is actually got my internet connection ONLY so i could get some files in a limited time.

My connection runs out in four days.

The servers are still down. Can we expect to be able to get files before Friday?

I guess that's the upside and downside of the new servers ;)

Before we had 2 servers running it all.
Now we have 5 servers in a cluster...
If one goes down, that's no biggie, but if a drive is lost, it's a pain...

Nah was more in the lines of the system dropping it and not able to reconnect to it.

The cluster we'r on is a shared cluster with Studentis other sites (we'r pulling 99% of the bandwith i think), so we can expect a few misshaps before everything is running.

Going from dedicated to cluster can be problematic.

I could understand if the server was busy but I've been trying for hours now. I can't help but think something more is wrong. It takes forever to load the download page and when I click "get it" it give me a "Can't load" error.

Look pal, the site just moved to a different server AND has been upgraded. It's normal that there will be some temporary problems, so just calm down ad wait till someone fixes them.

Every download that I have tried has worked so far, and the site is looking good. I understand why you want to download Loom, its one of the greatest in my opinion. The graphics, music, sounds, etc. are great.

Yea, everything works now... The old site was looking good, but this one is even better...

Right which is why I thought it was a bug. I figured it ought to be pointed out so that it can be fixed. Loom is an awesome classic game. On that note so are most of the other games lucasarts put out along those adventure game lines. Monkey Island, Sequels, I hear Sam & Max, Full Throttle and the like were as well and I'd like to get copies of those and play them sometime. Not Illegally, of course. ;-)

Problems with downloading
 

Hey folks, hopefully someone will be able to help me out here.

I haven't been able to get games to download (thus far I've tried Castles II and Revenge of the Dragon), and I'm really not sure why. I click on the "download this game" button and my browser will act like it's trying to load a new page, but nothing ends up happening. One time I left my computer for half an hour and came back, and at that point I was at a new page with another button for downloading, but when I clicked that the site just timed out.

I'm running a pretty capable laptop with windows XP, and I'm using the latest firefox as my browswer, are there any common problems with either of these software? Is there anything I'm missing from the download process?

Did you try to hit the Refresh button when on the page that doesn't load?

That I did. I just tried the "leave the browser alone for half an hour while it's loading" trick again, and it worked again. It brought me to a second page with another download button, and when I click that button my browser times out after about 10 seconds. Pressing reload or try again on that page doesn't have any effect.

I'm going to try the whole thing again using internet explorer, see if that produces any sort of a different result.

:oh:I have tried to download "Total Eclipse" 4 times now and each time it takes forever to get to the downlaod page and when the button is clicked it says the page is not available. I was able to download the walkthrough and the manual but not the game..Any ideas?... Thank you...SAL

Hmm, maybe there're currently some server problems. Doesn't work for me, either.

Don't work for no one I presume...hopefuly it will be fixed soon. :)

The updaters have reported a different sort of problem as well.
As far as I can tell, there's something happening with one of the file servers.
Unfortunately, those are under the care of Studentis people and it'll be up to them to find out what's going on and how to fix it.

I was looking forward to playing this game this afternoon, but my disks are damaged and will not load after all these years. I noticed it was available for download on this site, but I cannot seem to be able to get it because the link times out.

I am having the same problem. I was able to download X-Com last week but cannot download anything else at all I keep getting "Page not available" when I click the "get it" button

Uploads problems as well. AArgh! I was going to upload a lot of stuff today. Damnit.

servers crashed enyhow i have expereience with servers its a matter of finding which server hosts the download and fixing it i imagine it will be up in a week or sooner

It's a matter of the Studentis crew fixing the server, since it's under their total control.

Looks like we are back in business. :)

Puzzle Bobble is protected by Atari, and nobody's going to give you a link to a download here because it would be dealing with warez.

The download button been switched with an "ESA No Go" on the review page. You would not beleive the number of time we have to explain to people they're not going to find a download of that game here... Even though it's written in the FAQ. Maybe it should be made clearer.

Problem Downloading
 

I found this site from a friend and I must say that I'm amazed by the games that are here! My problem is that I can't download any of them. For some reason it just times out. I've tried through Firefox and Explorer just incase the browser was the issue but I still had the same problem. Should I switch computers? Any suggestions?

See if there's any difference on another machine, preferably using a different connection as well.

I have the same problem! I tried all sorts of things, and it's just not working. This sucks!

This sort of thing happens sometimes, other complaints won't help anybody apolloswan.
The best solution to prevent hundreds of topics like this, is to create an announcement on site (As russ did last time).

I found this site when looking for information on MegaTraveller - I had the original DOS game Megatraveller 1, did not know they had a 2 out - tried to download either and neither will download. Hoping it can be fixed soon

As Romano stated, the download server is currently not functioning. It probably won't be very long before it's back on-line. :)

This has happened before, and took a couple days to fix. Hopefully this time it will be done faster.
Until then, there's nothing any of us can do but wait.

The FTP server is working again but I am still getting the Forbidden error when trying to download Alien Carnage.

EDIT: Working now.

That was because of different names. Name of the game was Alien Carnage, and name of the Archive was Alien Carnage - Halloween Harry ! Now they are the same and download works fine.

When I hit "Download", it just took hours loading and never turned up. Say what now?

I wonder what that means.

The link doesnt work! if i press download... it doesnt load a new page... (or the program, where you choose execute, save, cancel you know)

Sorry, i found a vid on youtube... advising me to go to this site to look for the download ;) i found it but it didnt work... so i got a bit mad (not freaking out... more like OMG) and i was kinda rushing so i havnd readed the front page :wacko:, how long its (plus-minus) gonna take to fix tho? i hope it will be fixed tomorow :laugh:

It is dead. All downloads are not working at the moment!

Well, both run from the same FTP server, so it's pretty logical.
Don't like the Frequency much, though - I really miss the old music section. :(

Awwww poo, Loom's soundtrack was so great. :(

what happening with the updates? because nothing has happened since the last news?

There are a few weird things going on with the materials on the site and contents of the FTP server.

We're trying to get this shit sorted out, but it'll take us a while. Since the exact cause and extent of the problems has yet to be fully determined, I am not presently at liberty to divulge any further any details

Don't forget we're volunteers here. Which means we're not automagically relieved of any duties we might have IRL. Nor do our bills pay for themselves.

So just have some patience, 'kay?

I tried to download some of the titles you guys offer for download here but everyone of the times out.

The timeouts occur when i press the download button.

What game exactly are you trying to download?

Also, make sure you are not using some kind of download manager. The site will lock you out if you do.

I tried F-19 for example.

Im not using any download managers. Tried with IE and FF.

Just now found this site and a few intersting games but first everthing takes an eternity to get to the download site and then i only get error message *cry*

well at least it worked some time ago and so i hope it will again - but i think it is really bad service that there is no mentioning of such things only an error site "could not connect check your internet connection (wich is really fine thx very much)
At least a message saying server is down would be helpfull - or ANY Sign somewhere on the HP were one could SEE/CHECK if the server is connected or not

well i now its free so i shouldn´t complain but it is very frustrating that after signing on to get the game their is not even an error message or any information whats the matter with the games...

That error message was not written by us but by the makers of your internet browser.
It's a standard message for any situation where your browser cannot open a location.

First, we (as in: the entire site staff) have no control over the server or the design of the main page - a web team assigned to us by Studentis takes care of both.
Second, you do not need to register to download games.
Third, we can't post the news before we find out about the problem ourselves, and I was too busy actually trying to contact Studentis to get it fixed!

Remind me how they got involved with this and turned the forum upside down and stuffed the site into a frame.

I found some games that I should be able to download (Ultima: Martian Dreams for one) but when I try, it takes an incredibly long time to serve the page. That page has another link to click, and so far, every time I have clicked it, there's been a long delay and finally a failure. I've tried from IE and from Firefox - neither seems to work.

What am I doing wrong?

Any ideas about that? I know it should be there, I've downloaded games from the site many a time, but now there's nothing for me...?

Could it be a firewall problem? I don't find it likely since we've had ZA for years and still been able to access it, but it's still a possibility.

Video, yes, that's exactly what I've done before, but the download button doesn't appear at all.

dunno, maybe your dsn thing. try using some proxy and see if that helps

Using a proxy works to a point, but I still can't download the file. None of the images, not even the logo shows up when I visit the site on this computer. Haven't tried it at someone else's house, should probably do that, and see what's different on theirs in comparison.

I tried to download the game of today's screenshot but it takes a lot of time to load the "get it" page and when finally it loads i click on the "get it" button but firefox says the server is taking too long to respond.

I will try later but only to let you know this happend at this time

first day on this site and was happy to find elite love this game and not played it for years.. but it looks like i still can't play it :(

At least it's not just me.

I attempted to download two games (DreamWeb and Innocent Until Caught) and experienced the slow loading of the 'Get It' page and the server timeout, both with Firefox 3 and IE 7.

Hope it's back soon.

yeah i remember back in the day when i downloaded stuff here with ma old comp when abandonia used to look different and it was simple and easy to download..... whats up with it now??? whenn i click download the game it takes 5 years to get to the "get it" page. and then when i click that it always comes up with this page cannot be displayed.... its like the zip file isnt connected to the link?? :(

found an old game i played as a kid and wanted to dl on this site. when i click the dl button the browser tries to load, but after loading for 5-10 minutes says that the website is currently not able to be reached. this is the address of the game dl http://www.abandonia.com/en/downloadgame/598 yes its a game from 1989. =P dam but i'd still liek to play it again if i could ever dl it.

Yes. The download servers are down again. We have contacted Studentis about it, but so far nothing has been fixed.

Abandonia members came and fixed the servers. studentis were put inside these servers by accident

If the server is down, it's down.
Studentis haven't gotten it back online yet, so I've informed Kosta.
He's the one person on our side they might actually respond to.

I can't even enter a download page! (last successful download August 25)

Don't tell me that I'm limited to 3 games per year...

P.S. The problem is only with games, I can still download maps, walkthroughs etc
