When in Rome

I see other people are introducing themselves here so i figured i may as well. My name is Gareth, my computer life began at a tender age on my fathers knee in front of a microbee :) Computer upgrades continued slowly as my father never wanted to embrace windows so we kept DOS going for a very long time.

I spent much of my early teenage years on BBSes as the other kids at school didnt seem to like me very much. As for amusing anecdotes at the age of about 10 i was on a kids TV quiz show and announced to the world (or all of Australia at least) my favourite game was Lesiure Suit Larry :D Embarassed the hell out of my Mum.. lmao

dosraider 08-06-2008 10:02 PM

ysorian 08-06-2008 11:11 PM

A guy once told me that in Australia beer cans are sold in packs of 24 because the day has 24 hours. (Don't get mad at me, the guy's an Aussie himself. LOL)

ysorian 08-06-2008 11:33 PM

LMAO! :D so very, very true... and for the truly aussie we can get 30 can blocks... one an hour is too close to sober

Lulu_Jane 09-06-2008 02:33 AM

What quiz show was it?

Kugerfang 09-06-2008 04:13 AM

Are you smarter than a 5th Grader?

Quintopotere 09-06-2008 06:14 AM

You're welcome!
... but why the topic title is "when in Rome"? And why no one asked before me?

dosraider 09-06-2008 10:41 AM

"When in Rome, do as the Romans do"
\/
\/
\/
"When in Abandonia, do as the Abandonians do"

In other words: do and behave as the locals.

Maybe the Italians doesn't know this expression, but I thought it's a widely known one.

Kugerfang 09-06-2008 11:08 AM

I found a video clip of the game show!

Dave 09-06-2008 11:18 AM

WHAT THE HELL Kuger??
This is not your video topic!!

Ohh...wait...that video rocks :D

Italians know it, me too... but there were too many logical passages for my little, overworked brain...

ysorian 09-06-2008 09:17 PM

The quiz show was called "Double Dare" and it looks like dosraider already answered the other question... i was tempted to name it "When in ROMe" but that seemed a lil poncy... lmao:laugh:

Lulu_Jane 10-06-2008 05:53 AM

Wow... I remember Double Dare.... PHYSICAL CHALLENGE!!!

I got stuck on Animal Hospital, just by the way, and ended up in an argument with that wanker Eden Gaha.

ysorian 10-06-2008 08:41 PM

thats the one... if i remember correctly i lost by the second biggest margin... (was the biggest at the time) i blame my partner :amused:

Your mom blames Larry. :(

I had never heard "when in rome do as the Romans do", in Spain we say something like, "wherever you go do as you see", and we use in it an outdated verbe tense that we never ever use otherwise unless in legal writings... :oh:

EDIT: Oh my God...

i never quite got the reference myself... what did the romans do? .. try to conquer everything, molest small children and if u pissed em off they'd sick the spartans on u... i dont think that would fly in italy today... lol

-apologies in advance to any italians-

dosraider 10-06-2008 10:34 PM

A interesting view on Rome and the Roman history:
http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Rome

Good ol'uncyclopedia, always good to learn some truthful facts.

ysorian 11-06-2008 12:02 AM

lmao... so many things i didnt know

my humour tends towards abuse of others, (my g/f hates it) so i truly do apologise to anyone that may take offense at my drivel... :wondering:

Quintopotere 11-06-2008 06:23 AM

I'm italian and I'm not offended!
You're talking about the ancient romans... who are all dead nowadays...

Not to mention that you are australian: we all know australian origins...

... :p

ysorian 11-06-2008 09:07 AM

lmao... yup, we're all convict scum... Australia is a bit like those Kurt Russell "Escape From..." movies.

Except that Australians weren't truly framed innocents like Kurt Russel. *really runs for cover*

ysorian 11-06-2008 08:58 PM

nope... were just descended from the downtrodden dismal masses that would sell their own mothers to survive :amused:
