very sry

i mean what exactly is this tabbed stuff?? sry im not tht understanding of stuf like tht plz explain more

mouse31e 16-12-2004 11:31 PM

You get tabs along the top of you browser so you can have loads of pages open and switch between them easily.

It's a small download and it's free. I advise you just install it and see for yourself how good it is. I will not be going back to IE in a hurry! :D

punch999 16-12-2004 11:32 PM

i have it already i got it right when i posted this comment thnx lots

The best advantage is that it has a built in ad blocker and it doesn't have the incredibly big security holes that IE have. This mean very less ads to worry about and very little malware getting thru in comparison to IE.

The tabbed browsing is only something to get used to.

If you want to be completely safe, better disable Java tough.

You also can install this extension / plugin called Adblock through the Extra-menu on the Extensions part. It's pretty awesome too. And if some ads manage to slip past the ad-blocker, you can manually enter their URL in the blocker and forget about them forever. ;)

Stroggy 17-12-2004 02:12 PM

Yeah I recently imported an entire list of the msot frequent ads into Adblock... I haven't seen a single ad for the time being.
I also use a Tab-plugin to get more advanced tab options (because to say tabbed browsing comes with firefox isn't exactly true since you need to press on ctrl before clicking on a link all the time to make it open in a new tab instead of a new cindow which is quite annoying)

If you have a middle button/scroll wheel you can click that on a link and it will open a new tab. You can also drag links on to the tab you want them to open in! :D

Variety is good.
If you're IE is corrupt and you don't have an alternative browser
you most likely have no way of viewing a page unless Windows Explorer works.

UberDave 31-12-2004 12:32 AM

Don't forget Themes! Everyone loves Themes and there are tons of em for firefox! :max:

JJXB 31-12-2004 06:46 AM

Yepp... had a hard time to get used to it when i switched from NS/IE to OP.

I like Opera thou... has many features i use; Easy proxy-manigement is the biggest i think, and the ability to save passwords in a good way with a easy command to use them :)

xoopx 31-12-2004 10:08 AM

ive used mozilla for years! ie and outlook express is just too full of security holes.
now i use firefox and thunderbird for mail. i sleep a lot better!

if you dont have a firewall program, i recommend getting one.. ive used agnitum outpost firewall for a long long time. it has some good plugins like ad-blocking in it too

while im recommending things, http://free.grisoft.com/ the best free anti virus

Yamcha 31-12-2004 11:29 AM

I have a problem too. I use IE :tomato: and I got no problems :D But since I cant see my Gmail under this junk I downloaded Opera then Firefox. The both programs were unable to connect even I set them as my default browser. Is this a matter of security? I got Win98SE and I recently downloaded the latest IE patch. Does someone have an idea how to fix this?

hm...........
well for firefox make sure you have javascript enabled. gmail uses that kind of junk.. at least it looks like it to me when i check my gmail.
but why its broken in ie and opera as well... hm. it makes me wonder if somehow javascript is broken in your setup since that ie patch

Yamcha 31-12-2004 01:08 PM

Thanks Ill try to find a new scritp somewhere. Or that come with the update???

twisted-mystic 31-12-2004 01:54 PM

Yamcha 31-12-2004 01:56 PM

Can you ping it?? I'm tending to think that since this happens regardless of the browser your using it may be a system issue, perhaps you should clear your cache in your various browsers, also check your proxy settings. And are you able to login to otherwebsites requiring SSL? Like paypal?

Instructions for a ping >>

Quote:

* * In windows, click on the start button
* * goto Run
* * for windows 95/8/me type command
* * for windows xp, 2k, server2k/2k3 type cmd
* * in the command window type in
* * * * "Ping www.gmail.com"
* * without the quotes.
* * note the results

Yamcha 31-12-2004 03:31 PM

I ping the site but I still get the message

twisted-mystic 31-12-2004 04:07 PM

Pinging won't fix it, but if you get a response of "Response Timed out" or something of that nature your connection is getting cut off. do this, go back to the command window and type in

Tracert www.gmail.com

and paste the result here

Yamcha 31-12-2004 04:57 PM

there plenty things to poste. Anyway to copy the text?

twisted-mystic 31-12-2004 05:34 PM

Yeah, if your in a windows command shell, click on the little black icon in the top left, then go down to edit -> select all, then click on the icon again, go down to edit ->copy. Then you can paste it here

TandyGen90210 02-01-2005 01:36 PM

The advantages to this browser are virtually endless...
Tabbed browsing, themes, increased security, download manager, and so much more...

Koen 02-01-2005 06:24 PM

Everything is perfect of this browser!!! :ok:

.EDIT. found it...

Perfect! Just perfect... :ok:

UberDave 02-01-2005 06:46 PM

One more feature to mention. If you press Ctrl + U or go to View / Page Source you get a full Syntax Highlighting text editor great for all your HTML coding needs! I really do love FireFox it just totally owns at everything!

Koen 02-01-2005 08:34 PM

The only thing I miss is saving a web page as a mht file (instead of saving it as a html + directory full of graphics and other html files). This was a feature I used ofted with IE...

Rogue 05-01-2005 04:10 PM

I just installed both, Mozila Firefox and Mozila Thunderbird.

Nothing special, just another browser.... :D

(Already have IE, Netscape 4.7, Netscape 7.2 and Opera)

get a 3 button mouse (one with a wheel that you can press as a button) like mine, then you can open new tabs by clicking a link with middle button

Rogue 06-01-2005 05:50 AM

Well after some play with it, like it more then other browsers.

Tabs are not the reason (operas and Netscape 7.2 have tabs too), but cool extension and themes. I like it so far. *sets it as default browser*

Thankful for this topic. :bye:
