Well maybe in 2029

Happy holidays :bye:

Titan 26-12-2004 11:34 PM

Yepps... on a Friday the 13:th on top of all..

Risks are 1 in 60 thou...

My segestion: nuke it now..

Eagle of Fire 27-12-2004 03:19 AM

Interesting, but hardly worth of notice. Let's not run around in panic just yet. :)

Titan 27-12-2004 04:08 AM

Perhaps i should do like my great idol: BENDER!

*gone looting*

hmm.. seems like they've upgraded the risk to 1 in 45 now...

Oh well... still a few more years to go, and the size of it, is not THAT big.. just massive LOCAL dmg. Nothing global..

There are many larger rocks out there to worry about..

goblins 27-12-2004 04:32 AM

well lets see 400 meters across (now say the US decides to send a rocket up with 10 nukes attached say towards the end of next year to blow up near it and simply alter its course - heck 10 nukes could probably vapourise something that size - its technically possible nowdays and they have 24-25 years to worry about it.

Still it might focus a few minds on getting more humans and more money into space exploration and space travel casue as stated there are bigger rocks out there.

Titan 27-12-2004 05:11 AM

*keeps on looting anyway*

Bender? Do you mean Ostap Bender?
Anway, I doubt this will be the one that will do us any harm. 2029 is little too far away, it should happen earlier...

Flying out before you could start... :sneaky:

Koen 27-12-2004 03:55 PM

Yeah, and the Eastern part of the USA would be flooded because of a tsunami...

Did that happen???

I don't believe so...

So I don't believe this too...

Sorry. :help:

wormpaul 27-12-2004 03:57 PM

it's just 1 big fake trick..

I can still sleep from it

Unknown Hero 28-12-2004 01:14 AM

NOOOOOOOOOO, WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE!!!! *DON'T PANIC, DON'T PANIC!* MOOOOOM!!!! :eeeeeh: :hairpull: :hairpull: :hairpull:

goblins 28-12-2004 01:34 AM

1 outta 34 hey well if this tidal wave didnt hit the news i reckon this asteroid story would have become big news. Still 24000 dead at the moment not good news but an asteroid strike would kill upwards of 1 Billion people if this one hits.

They can either nuke it or send some robot probes to mind it.

cheesegrater 28-12-2004 03:58 AM

I think this is a good thing. Asteroids contain billions of dollars worth of ore.

FreeFreddy 28-12-2004 09:44 AM

The ore which will crush your head...

Well Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand and some other countries I can't remember, the one's around that area, were hit by a tsunami. 27 000 killed or so. Tragic.

10 Aussies missing and 6 dead.

Last I heard of it was 9 hours ago so the death count may have risen.

FreeFreddy 28-12-2004 09:45 AM

30000 yesterday on the news in Germany...

Havell 28-12-2004 09:48 AM

Yeah, according to google news the death toll is still 27,000 with 16 dead Brits (this is one thing that always irritates me about these disasters, the news always says "There have been 27,000 dead foreigners, but who cares? There are 16 dead Brits!". They say it as if dead Brits are somehow much more tragic than dead anybody else ).

Iron_Scarecrow 28-12-2004 09:50 AM

They say it cause you're britain. Obviously they care for everyone else, in the cricket test today they stopped play for a minute of silence. But are you telling me you dont care how many brits died.

Havell 28-12-2004 10:19 AM

It's not that it's just the attitude that it's always the Brits they're talkng about, not everybody else, obviously in other countries they say how many of their own own nationality died.

Iron_Scarecrow 28-12-2004 10:22 AM

Yes they do.

Ioncannon 28-12-2004 12:22 PM

So this asteroid, if it hits, won't create an apocolypse? Phew hopefully hits land far away from my house (Quebec) LOL. The again US could do something good for a change and blow up that asteroide with there so many useless nukes!

or by then some hippy president will have rissen to power and will have destroyed all nuclear arms in a gesture of world peace...
:shudders:

Hah, that'd teach those hippies at least: be carefull what you wish for.

Here they always point out how many americans died. Also in a lot of cases, they get their family info and pictures.

It's big tragedy. :(

AS for asteroid, we will send Bruce, Ben and others to place A-Bomb on it. LOL :D

How about we tie them to the nuclear missile, we'd be killing two birds with one stone.

Should we wait till Bruce has no hair? LOL (Better aerodynamics ;))

FreeFreddy 28-12-2004 03:25 PM

Who are Bruce and Ben, anyways?

Stroggy 28-12-2004 03:27 PM

Bruce Willis and Ben Whatshisface
The 'heroes' in the movie "armageddon"

Bruce Willis said, in a documentary, that if the world were really under threat of an asteroid he would be the real hero, not Ben.
I think he should put his money where his mouth is and ride the nuclear missile right into that asteroid when its here.

That is showbusinnes, pal. ;)
People that are in touch with that businnes inevitably become spoiled, at least partially...
And yeah, I would like to see him, what he would do should such thing happen for real.

Danny252 28-12-2004 05:51 PM

now all we have to do is get it into orbit. Where's superman when you need him :D

Squalidangel 28-12-2004 06:05 PM

Hope it squashs every house in my town, but mine. Then I will open my own private mining corparation.

Then noone will call the cops to make my company move their cars.(even though they aren't in the way)

Rogue 28-12-2004 06:07 PM

I know this guy can't help any more.... :D

aiwaman 28-12-2004 08:13 PM

Well if the asteroid hits it would probably be apocaliptic! But sending nukes into space to hit it is not a good idea! It's not sure that the asteroid would hit earth. And there is a chance that the lift of would not be successful. Imagine what would happen if a rocket wearing 10 nukes would hit the ground after a foult in the lift of.

FreeFreddy 28-12-2004 08:46 PM

Then we wouldn't need to worry about asteroids ever again...

They did it in Armagedon! :bleh:

Or we can send them rockets with UPS. :w00t: :tomato:

Sebatianos 29-12-2004 12:19 PM

Forget ARMAGEDON!
Do you sit in front of the TV all day or something???
What about really intelectual stuff that could help us:

...like games.

Play:

The DIG - by Lucasarts
or
RAMA - by Sierra

We - the abandonians - have the power of games - to save the Earth!!!
For we know it's not a comet - it's an alien craft coming to visit... well someone!!!

Titan 29-12-2004 12:43 PM

Whorst possible scenario, is if the commet where to hit the northern altantic or northern pacific... Tsunami, anyone?

Rogue 29-12-2004 01:30 PM

*starting to dig a hole*

Yes, the DIG might help us. ;) But still need some TNT to destroy that crap up there! :D

Now for real, what if it hits very populated area? It should be worst then A-Bomb.

*still diging the hole*

And yes, it's very tragic.

For now, I'm going to play doom... WE'RE ALL DOOMED!

Ioncannon 29-12-2004 06:28 PM

What would be the problems of a asteroid hitting the earth? I know if it hit water therewould be a Tsunami but what aer all the scenarios? Can't we just build a giant bunker to hide in? LOL the Canadian bunker, the Amarican bunker, the UK bunker LOL. The world would be flushed underground! We would be MOLE PEOPLE! Any way by then we would have some technology to at least steer the thing off course! How about US's StarWars Project? FIRE THE LASER!!!!

Danny252 29-12-2004 09:09 PM

how about we move the earth :D how hard could it be? But just in case I'd better get player 1 to use blowtorch and girder :D

goblins 30-12-2004 12:25 AM

A few points

* after further observations this asteroid has now been cleared by NASA and other space tracking organisations of being on a earth collision course - it will miss us by some margin - so now black friday space rock sorry folks

* the tsuami wave death toll has just been upgraded to 100,000 + once all areas of sumatra and other remote areas from india, somailia, sri lanka and other areas have been seen it could go as high as 125,000 people dead.

Not a good thing but i guess at least there are quite a few that survived.
