Test Drive was my favourite racing series till Accolade decided to ____ up the series making it more like the other racing games, plus full of bugs.
How good the series is now can all be clearly seen by looking at the stack of Test Drive games (4,5...) we all have.....not. My favourite was the first one, with II as my second choice. I didn't like the 3rd, it just didn't "do" it for me. Luckily a few years later there was the release of Need For Speed that was in all ways but the name, the successor to the throne. True, II was crap, but, after that it got mostly better or the same good quality. Though I do not get the fixation of more recent titles (racing and nfs in general) to have races in cities. And the lights under the cars..I mean how much bad taste can you have? Infinite supply apparently. Anyway, Test Drive 4/5 stars Test Drive II 3/5 Test Drive III 2/5 |
I think TD2 is the best. I had TD1 installed on my first computer, and when it died (the backup battery for some reason) we got a 486DX and a friend gave me TD2: The duel.
|
i loved the early test drive games on amiga. so much fun.
other good amiga racing games (talk about off topic.. sort of ;) = no second prize, top gear 2, buggy boy |
OMG! I used to play The Duel Test Drive 2 on my 286. God this brings back memories!
|
the 3rd one is terrible! http://xoopx.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/gonemad.jpg

I only had the master scenery and the callifornia challenge and only had the cga-version. now I'm playing the european challenge in ega. Woot! :) |
Stara dobra igra u to doba mozda i najbolja voznja.
Pravi oldtimer. |
:rifle:
I had TD 1 and The Duel on my Commodore 64, back in the late 80`s. Man, the load times were terrible, but it made up for that in hours of gameplay. Off Topic: I also had Shirley Muldowney`s Drag Race, and it was a great C64 game, but it was easy to blow your engine, just like TD! |
:Titan:
Wel test drive 3 was in my opinion the best game. I was amazeb by it's early 3d envrionment in that time. There was so much to see overthere. including Chickens cows, trains airplanes windmills it had it all and more. It was realy a country drive away. |
Enjoyed all the TD's
Most of all, i enjoyed TD3 - due to the 3D landscape, the shortcuts you could take once you really learned the tracks, and the hidden easter eggs in the game. Anyone else spot the X-Wing on one of the tracks hidden out in a barn? :D |
its hard to get trough, but when you,, then youīd proud of it. hard but good!! :ok:
awesome classic. just download! |
Hi
How do i download the game from this site? I can't seem to see any download links Pls help Regards Laven |

Apart from trying elsewhere you should always as your first step contact the publisher of the game (I think it is either Atari or Ubisoft now) and ask them to buy the pack from them. Of course there is no chance in hell of them having it for sale, but, that is what you are supposed to do. Then try to find a pack of it for sale in an online shop, second hand shop in your town, or ebay. Or, contact ESA and ask them where you can download it from. The last one was a joke. |
Test Drive 2 was my first, great game on my first computer, an Amiga 500. Really great to play these old games! :Brain:
|
The implemented add-on disks doesnīt work. Can somebody help me?
Iīve selected the disks in the according menu but I canīt select the additional sceneries and cars. Must be the files on a floppy-disk and not on the HDD? Iīve tried it but without success. |
On Test Drive 2 there is 2 cheats.
You get one extra life and better top speed and handling when you write this: aerf Just write aerf like 20 times and get lifes and speed :) Worked for me on my amiga, but don't know if it works in dosbox. |
I know I'm sort of slow (considering how long we had this game), but is there a CGA version of this game? I'm 99.9% postive I've seen it, and 99 of those that it was in 4 colors
|
i need help cant seem to be able to run it through dos
pls reply |
there were two bundles of expansion for td2 for pc, one itīs the california challenge and the different one was the European challenge, also there were bundles of expansion for cars: the cars of td1 and muscle cars. where I can obtain in Internet these bundles of expansion for the computer and that could join all of them without any problem???

Ah, Test Drive Series! Sure it brings back memories!
Test Drive: Top of the games at those days, it had only 4 colours, because I never had the 2nd disk for Ega 16 colours! But never the less, 4 colours was all it took to sweep my mind to dreamland. The only thing bad was that it had not autocenter in steering, and it gave me quite a few thrills! The fact that to steer you had to push the gas button over and over was also a drag, but with time you could master the technique (click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click "What the hell are you doing, trying to screw up the keyboard!?" "Nothing, dad, just playing Test Drive!" :ok: Best Car: Testarossa or the Lambo Test Drive II. The players of Doom and other nice games must excuse me, but this is the best game of the XXth century! Many of the technique in driving that I use today I lerned it with this game... Well, not all of it, of course :bleh: The scenarios were crummy, but it was great! You could also change the game, by changing the names of the files... For example, you could play against the police, just simply change the "cop.pes" for one of the *.pes of the cars! you could also "tune" your Lotus to become a Ferrari, the pointers would be all screwed up, but who cares!? You could also change what was written on the boards, with a simple editor! Those were the days... Favourite car: I had them all, muscle, european, and duel. But my utmost favourite would always be the F40. And what about the fact that you could pass between cars!? A little tight, but just right! "You lunatic!! You know how many women and children you could have killed!?" Good times, indeed... :Brain: Test drive III: The passion. Great intro, but kind of a disappoinment at gameplay. Never the less, the 3d effects were super for those days, and the "candy", the easter eggs that it had were great! Chickens that when you run thru them they would screw your steering, hidden barns, rain, lights, music, nice car handling, the "dukes of hazzard" challenge to pass the closed roads, and the chance to turn your car in a 4x4 cruising out of the road! The alternate courses were also great. Try to play it on a modern pentium 4, it's the ride of your life, instead of a supercar you'll get a super rocket! :w00t: That's the price to pay for civilization... Best Car: The vette, but the others were also great. I guess that the vette was so lame on the other versions that they tried to make it up on this one! LOL |
"You drive like my grandmother...." was the first comment I ever saw when I made the first pit stop, playing test drive. I laughed so harded, remembering just trying to get to the first pit stop. God the memories.

Hi everybody,
I'd like to have some informations about the existance of Test Drive III - The Passion for Commodore 64, the game has never been released, but maybe some early development exists. Anyone can help me? thanx |

|
Hi guys! Me first post here and would like to say a big "thanks" and congrats on your work here!
Well, i need some :help: here... I can't seem to get TD2: The Duel to work on my pc... After typing "duel" in the command prompt under dosbox, the graphics device selector pops up... However, after selecting any option, dosbox returns in the command prompt... TD and TD3 work fine... Any suggestions? Tnx in advance.. |
First of all. Thank you so much that you dont need to register! I hate doing that when im just about to ask a few questions or such.
Second: I love this game! But I remember playing it long long ago, in that pink/cyan/grey grafic thingy! Anyone remember this? And I also had a similar graphic game but rally. It even could become night/dark! was really fun! If anyone can tell me of a Racing Rally game with the old graphics or Test Drive with old graphics please do |

the manuals ???? does anyone know where to get them ?
|
TD3 was the only game I ever owned, but I sure as hell remember how great it was. Just never was very good at it though :P
|
Test Drive 1 was my first favorite game. Test Drive 2 was of corse
my second. Today's games can't still catch their magic. The intense traffic of TD2 isn't mach from any of the todays games. |
I have a problem with TD2. When i try to run it it says not ready to read drive F. Abort?Ignore?Fail? What should I do?
|
Test Drive III has to be one of my favorite racing games of all time. I think this is because the game was so far ahead technically of anything produced for the home market at the time.
I'm wondering if anybody knows where I can find a list of the "Shortcut" routes in the game. And, if somebody is looking for the manual, I've been able to locate it, but only in French. |
I have a problem with TD2. When i try to run it it says not ready to read drive F. Abort?Ignore?Fail? What should I do? :sos: same problem here :/
|
Sweet. A mate I used to know had Testdrive 1 2 and 3 and I enjoyed them all they are good
|
|
The "Drive F" failure it's pretty annoying, and I used to get it all the times; the problem is that TD" has some kind of initial sequence where it searches all drives on the computer. Your F: drivr it's probably your DVD or CD-ROM drive, and the sequence that he lauches, when trying to read it, fails. The Solution: pretty simple, you have to put a CD/DVD in all your drives, before you start TD2... Even on virtual ones, like cloneDVD, Alcohol, or similar... It's a small price to pay for having lots of fun... :ok:
|
I and my friends were challenging with TD1, hitting the gas all the time!
When you change the car, the floppy drive were reading crazy. And the noise of the floppy.. it was the sound effect of TD1. kidding. I just played TD2 to find that this is THE Best! |
Only 3 cars and only 1 track!!! in td3!
I have 5 cars and 2 tracks..
|
The Duel Play Questions
Ok, this may seem like a dumb question, but I never really got to play TD2 when it was new, 1 was great, 3 was so-so....
I can't seem to figure out what keys control gear shifting.... Does anyone have a cheat sheet on what keys do what? I really hate auto-shift mode.... :P Email me at [Edited] if you have the answer..... Thanks in advance |
TD 1 and TD 2 are fun, but TD 3 it is too hard to steer the car...
|
Just about everyone I knew had either 1,2 or td 3 on their pc's! I miss those great accolade games!
|
TD3 Addon disk?
I have been searching all over internet for the TD3 Addon disk. The disk is an addon for Test Drive III: The Passion. It features 2 new cars and a race from Cape Cod to Niagara. New cars are: Stealth R/T Turbo Dodge and NSX Acura. I remember that I managed to get it years back from somewhere. For now I can't find it anywhere. Is it abandonware at all yet? I also can't find it in any torrent. I havent seen anyone interested in the addon on any abandonware sites also. Am I really the only one who wants it? Any help guys, gals?
|

I like Test Drive 1 in...CGA!
Was one the few that I played in CGA and I like it and gets very adicctive. Like a surprise like Red Baron, this is in EGA too, but first try was in CGA... I like the phisics, that thing that if you run too fast sends you to the cliff, I like it! And to try differents cars, the Testarrosa was the best if I remember it well, and the Lamborgini Countach chasing it near. I remember finding the keys to go up in a gear, or to go down, and finally finding 2 keys to up and down gears without pressing too many differents keys, better to press key number 5, then key number 6, 7,etc. And to press repeatedly the key direction to force the steer to move, great game! This game impressed me, almost all the CGA games bored me. |
The first three Test Drive games are a rather mixed bag.
Test Drive has horrid controls. Tap tap tap to go, tap tap tap to steer, and what buttons was it again to gear shift? Very tedious. Test Drive 2: The Duel was much better, it was a good driving game for its time, but why couldn't they have Ad Lib sound in the DOS version? Otherwise, the only half-way decent Test Drive in my opinion. Test Drive 3: The Passion is just a terrible, unplayable driving game. The steering is an exercise in utter frustration as it's a struggle not to veer off of a road and into a tree. The game's speed is CPU-dependent, which is pathetic for 1990, and also tied to the frame rate. The "proper" frame rate is too laggy to be unplayable, but if the frame rate is increase, the game just goes too fast. And the music and sounds are just pure cheese. Just listen to the police siren, it just makes me laugh or annoyed depending on the volume level. Squeeeeeeeeeeee-squeeeeeeeeeee-squeeeeeeeeeeee! Sounds just like nails on a chalkboard! |

You press Space bar and gas, that's it ^^ |
I recently get back to Test Drive 1 and I found the controls are a disaster. I didn't remembered like this. This was like this or maybe is a dosbox problem?
Test Drive II was the most fun. Test Drive III was fun for exploration, but not the race. |
