Well... what phone(s) do you use/have (active only, not something you keep in a drawer)..
Any pros/cons about it/them? Reason why you chose just THAT phone? |
Got a NEC e606.. Horrible phone actualy.. But was the first 3G handset avalible here in sweden.. used if for 6 months and then replaced it with the one below.. Still use it thou.. as an emergency backup..
Got a NEC e616.. Nice phone actualy... lots of useful features. Realy like the look and preformance.. but now it's only used as an expencive alarm-clock ;) Realy good one thou. Only alarm-clock i know with GPS ;) Got a LG u8110.. I use it as my "party phone" since my "main" is just too bulky sometimes... Neat design.. slim.. and good preformance, but totaly lacks the possibility of expantion memorywise.. Nor any BT support :( Got a Motorola A925.. now there is my little (?!) gem :) It's THE best phone i've EVER had in my possetion.. Got EVERYTHING.. Good Webbrowser, GPS, Touchscreen and i've crammed in a 1 GB SD-card in it.. YAY!.. Just finished cramming 750 MB fresh MP3's into it.. Also uses it to play Sam&Max using EScummVM.. when i'm not watching a movie i've ripped from a DVD.... It's just... awsom.. best of all.. i payed 50€ for it :) Time to link it up with my Jabra BT300 and party! btw.. all of those are UMTS(3G)-phones (eg. Videophone and so on.. 2 Mbit wireless), could never use a GSM(2G)-phone again.. too... obsolite.... outdated.. slow.. |
I'm still using my old trusty Nokia 3310.
never saw the need to carry some flashy cellphone with gadgets and colours around with me. |
I've got an I-Mate Smartphone2. It's good for playing Links (golf) on in airports, and I can fit a full series of TV episodes (something like Black Books) on the memory card and play them back. :)
I briefly considered 3G, but the 3G network down here sucks badly. We got a demo model at work when 3G launched and over 80% of my call attempts completely failed to dial. I have a window cube just across the road from the city centre. :/ 3 were boasting the other day that in the last year or so they've got their call dropout rate from 12% of calls down to "only 1.5%". Think about that -- one in every 67 calls drops out. The 2G carriers are way better than that. |
Nokia 3310. I need a new one as this one is giving up the gost but for that I need to cancel my current contract and I still need to write the letter for that. After that there is a three month wait before I can get a new one.
|
i'm using a Sony Ericsson T610.
Pros: very nice design, big display and many colors, good sound, easy to handle Cons: sometimes on/off button is not responding properly, crappy cam (but who needs a cam, anyway?) highly recommendable handy, imo! :ok: |
I've got Sony Ericson T230
It's not a new model, but I got it couple of months ago. My parents told me I could pick a phone and they would buy it, and I didn't see the point in buying some fancy phone, seeing that they never last long for me. :wall: So I chose this one, and I really like it. |

Anyway, I now have Motorola V600, which seems to work very well. Doesn't do much other than make phone calls, but then what are phones actually for? |
I don't have a mobile phone and I don't want one! I am the silent resistance! :Titan:
|
I got a motorola t772i or so, It's a clamshell which happen to be broken at the opening mechanism. So when I open up my phone to call I have to watch out the top-part doesn't fall off :D
before that I had a nokia 3330, but it got bathed in my backpack when it rained immense during a festival. Bad luck with phones I suppose |
Sharp GX10i, baby yeah!
Actually, to my disappointment, it is completely overrated. I shoulda got something cheaper, or at least something I could respect. |
I also use Nokia 3310 and Samsung A800, if my runs out of batteries or something.. They're not mine, though. The Nokia belongs to my mom, and the Samsung belongs to the Institution of National Social Security in Iceland
(my mom is a computer-nerd there). I never remember to charge the batteries, so I happen to use those two "extra phones" a lot. |
I use the Sony Ericsson T610, and luckily haven't had any problems with it yet, though I've had it since Feb 2004.
I used to have the SE T68i, and since I've used Sony E, I really like them. It took a while to get used to, but now I have, I would never go back to Nokia. : ) |
I got an LG 6300 if I remeber correctly
|
I've got a T610, like Strobe, and I'm very satisfied with it^-^ I've had it for about 7 months now.. I think.. =)
|
ive got a sony ericcson t610
it was free. the best thing about it is that with a bluetooth dongle in my pc, i can connect to it with this really cool program someone made; floats mobile agent that lets me read, write, send and receive text messages without touching my phone once. lets me upload java games and music and pics from the pc etc etc |
Got a Sonic Ericsson T230, I think. I know it's the same as Puffin's. It seems to be a good phone, but pretty slow.

Provider Nextel - cell Motorola i530

I'we got a good, old untrusty Ericsson T65! :ok:

? |
nope.
msn works for me... more reliable, dosen't cost (ok, net charges), nicer display. and with a few things almost a mobile phone (microphone and webcam) |
he wrote it in the 1950's, and everyone had a 'wrist radio' to communicate...
... Ray Bradbury's story 'The Murderer" takes place in the future where there's an even greater number of machines and technology in a person's life. Bradbury writes about a man, the Murderer, who is in jail and charged with killing all the machines used in his daily life. In the story, the Murderer is telling the psychiatrist why her committed these crimes. Bradbury's character sees how machines control every aspect of his life and the people around him. Because of these revelations, the Murderer eventually resolves to destroy all of the machines he has been forced to use. The Murderer continues on his crusade by entering a bus full of machine loving passengers. The Murderer is arrested when he disturbs their patterns and turns on a portable diathermy machine. This machine disrupts the pleasant noise of the passengers, filling the bus with static. he is released after his arrest, but he continues to destroy all the machines in his house, resulting in his second arrest. It was all so enchanting at first. The very idea of these things, the practical uses, was wonderful. They were almost toys, to be played with, but the people got too involved, went too far, and got wrapped up in a pattern of social behavior and couldn't get out, couldn't admit they were in, even. So they rationalized their nerves as something else. 'Our modern age,' they said. (Bradbury 59-60) The murderer is placed in a private cell, alone to sit in silence for six months. His society considered the silence a punishment, while he considered it a joy. The story "The Murderer" illustrates how one can come to fear machines and the power they have on a society and the people in it. |
and how does that include me not having a mobile phone?

The only thing that kinda annoys me, is sending sms. I've got really good speed on my old Nokia, but I can't type as fast on my SE. The buttons are too stiff, in my oppinion. I thought it would change, after using it for some time, but it hasn't changed yet  |

Nokia 6230. Bought it for the good GPRS capabilities, radio, and MP3 player. The camera is a nice addition, as is bluetooth. It wasn't all that expensive either, so I'm happy.
I only wish it used S60 instead of S40. Can't get everything, I guess. |

As for me I got my good old Siemens C55 |
I got a Panasonic GD-92.
Rather old (4 years), but light and elegant, plus it has a very good antenna-the pleasure of being able to call when the nearby guy with a 1000€ cellphone swears 'cause he can't :D |
Well I started with an old Sagem phone (and always kept going for the cheapest one I could get here). I'm on my 4th one now and it's Sony-Ericson T230...
|
I have Motorola C650 , and I like it very much , it has all the "goodies" , of modern cellphones(camera, mp3 etc.), and it was quite cheap 1000kn, or 140$, I don't know anybody else who has this cellphone.
|
pff...i´ve got Samsung A800, maybe not the fanciest around or the newest, but does what i expect a phone to handle.....well...almost LOL
Ashy.... |

I have this stupid little motorola flip phone thing. EVERYBODY has this phone though, i mean, the day after i bought it, i started seeing it around. i must know at least 20 people with my phone. pisses me off... Hey is it true that you can keep your contract and exchage your phone (plus some money) for a new phone, then just swap the cards? |
Its not expensive if you can afford it.
|
Over here in the Netherlands there are deals where you get a free playstation 2 or X-Box when you join a new provider. The phone you get is a little worse then otherwise but hé if you want a free X-Box or Playstation 2.
p.s. Danny stop spamming. |
Ditto with Danny, a mobile would be a waste of money to me, every time I want to call someone I'm at home to use a land line or I can use MSN. If I'm out somewhere and I need to call someone I can use a payphone or borrow a friend's mobile. That and I don't like the idea of being able to be contacted wherever I go, all of my friends have mobiles and they always get pranked by each other and called at inconvenient moments.

I link the possibility to always have the world in my pocket.. Anyone can contact me, and i can contact anyone, whenever i like..
If i don't want to be contacted, i simply turn of the radio-transmitter (my phone has that option to turn off all radio-sources) and save that battery as a bonus, and still have access to all other services.. eg. if i wanna read a book or listen to an audio-book and just relaaaaxx.. Nah.. if i wanna send a looong text-message, i'll just send it as an e-mail or boot up ICQ/MSN or IRC... it fills my personal uses.. and judging of other ppls comments here, i seem to be a heavy (?!) user. I can understand why Danny doesn't use a cellphone.. he's still to young i guess. Anyway, it's fun to see how ppl use the possibilities the GSM-net actualy offers. Ofcourse most ppl never uses the GPRS-feature at all, unless they recive a MMS from someone.. but rather uses it to call voice-calls and SMS. In reply to Picards post, last summer we had a major give-away-war here in sweden also.. Xbox, bikes, 15" LCD's.. they basicly threw the phones at you along with extra freebees. Just to hook you up for 24-36 months.. Usualy the "free" phone is ANYTHING but free.. Many times you pay a set ammount, and nothing comes for "free" in that sum. You just pay it.... So, watch out what you actualy get. Here is my current deal (all / month): 400 Min voice to fixed and withing same network 50 Mins Voice to other Cell-nets 50 Mins Video to all nets 50 SMS to whoever i like 50 MMS to whoever i like 100 Emails to whoever i like 100 SEK (11€) of services, eg News, Music videos, live music, ringtones and so on on theire portal-service.. Don't pay for any data-trafic on the portal, and 9 SEK (1€) / MB data outside to the net, eg WWW, MSN and so on. Downside it high rates OUT of the country.. Upside is, when my minutes are used, i keep calling to own network 100% free with no hidden fees.. pure free.. both voice and video :) |
True you pay for what you get. If you already have a mobile phone that you are happy with it is possible to substantially reduce the monthly fees. In the end though, it is still cheaper to get a mobile phone from your provider then to buy the same phone yourself and get the discount.

i'm pressing it for over 10s and nothing happens. this is quite unusual, but doesnt' bother me too much as long as it is not getting worser. |
yeah gprs only comes on for MMS on my phone setup, i havent got a gprs account set up for WAP internet, so i use GPS for wap! this actually makes sense because i have 50 free minutes per day, which includes WAP.
in the uk they want us all to get 3G handsets.. and people only get them for the cheaper voice calls LOL |
We don't have 3G in Iceland
@Strobe: I think I've never turned off my phone! I just put it on silent. Titan, we have similar stuff here as you mentioned. x-many free minutes, some free sms's etc. But only within the same system. Most of my friends have Vodafone cards, while I do my business at Síminn. So I didn't see any use of it. But now my boyfriend just bought a card from Síminn, so we're going to find out how it all works.. I believe it's called "Telephone-friends". Something like... you buy 2000kr or more deposit via net-bank, and you get to call and sms one person for free, in x many minutes or x many sms's. |
Quote:
Puff: Yeah.. Vodafone is "smart" when only providing free minutes inside theire own net.. :/ |
Both Vodafon and Símin have those offers...
One nice thing that Síminn offers, it's called Kollect. Then you dial *888* before the number, then the reciever pays, but only inside the system. I use it a lot, as I don't have much money. But only if I call my parents or my boyfriend.. |
Kyocera KX414
