I love to play guitar.... it's one of my favorite passtimes... i've been playing for 5 years... and own 2 guitars... a cheap korean one and an Ibanez RG470
how about you? |
I've played clarinet since 1996. Took a break from studying after last christmas, but I'm still playing with bands and such.
Learnt piano for couple of years. Self taught on flute (my sister is studying). I also play guitar a bit, but never learnt it. I have one Peavey (elec), one Simon and Parick, and one old weary Bjarton. Oh, and tin-whistle :bleh: |
I've been playing the flute since I was 10 (1992), the recorder since I was 5, the clarinet for about 4 years and the saxophone for about 3 years. My job is actually teaching those four instruments.
I started piano lessons when I was 5 and continued till the end of my first year at university when I gave up to concentrate on the flute more. I play piano and keyboards in a few bands, one of which is looking pretty serious so I'm hoping I might be able to go full-time soon.... :D My mum taught me to play guitar when I was 4 but that's really a hobby and I learnt to play the double bass a few years ago because I felt like it. I also learnt the oboe for a while but I was awful! |
Opera Singer, Bassoon, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Trumpet (so Baritone and Tuba can fall into that as well) Piano, Bass, Guitar, played a bit of Oboe, play a bit of Clarinet, because of Saxophone I can play Flute pretty well, Mallet percussionist (so Vibes, Marimba, Xylophone) I wonder if I've left anything out...probably...I can pretty much play anything I can get my hands on because I'm just awesome like that :D I also love composing music...but I would say my primary instrument (s) is Voice, Percussion, Piano, Bassoon, and Saxophone :band:

Nice list otherwise! :ok: :ok: :ok: |
The fingerings between Saxophone and flute are almost the exact same...I had to learn a hadnful of different ones (I think I could count them on one hand), and I had to learn how to blow across the hole, bot otherwise they are almost the exact same.
Seperating the saxes makes perfect sense, because anyone who has played saxophone before can tell you how different they are. When I first tried to play tenor from Alto, it took me a bit...but I guess you are right. Thanks for the compliment though...music is what I do...'tis my life. |
Ocarina (the Hot Potato one, not the smartie with holes), but am lacking songs for it, and far from all songs're fit for it (especially those with high notes. Too easy to drop the thing then)
|
Quote:
mine too! :D I've never had any problem switching saxes. I can pick up any sax and play, it's never bothered me. Oh well, suppose we're all different. You can clearly play brass instruments where I'm lucky to make a sound! :D Oops, sorry, got a bit protective about the flute there! LOL I tend to do that! Yeah, suppose fingerings are pretty similar but you can apply that to any woodwind instrument except the bassoon (I never worked out what to do with all those keys round the thumb! LOL) Clarinet, Oboe and Recorder fingerings are pretty much the same as flute and saxophone. <!--QuoteBegin-Kon-Tiki@Feb 7 2005, 01:39 AM Ocarina (the Hot Potato one, not the smartie with holes), but am lacking songs for it, and far from all songs're fit for it (especially those with high notes. Fingers off almost means ocarina to the floor :bleh: I feel it's easier than the recorder, but just need some songs I can practice with, and I've never found any songs for that type of ocarina. 's Always for the smartie one.
|
Clarinet, saxophone, and guitar when I was a teenager.
Now, guitar, bass, and some piano/keyboard. If you consider the voice an instrument, I've been singing since I was born. Remember, you just asked if we played anything, you never asked if we played it well  |
Played Trumpet for 5 years. Quit due to laziness.
Played Piano for 2, maybe 3 years. Quit due to laziness. Had one Guitar lesson. Quit due to laziness. For some reason after I get told I have a lot of potential in something I completely give up. Can anyone find any logic in that because I can't. |

Although b clarinet and bass are my primary. The wost thing about the bass is it's difficult to carry it around, I don't have a car  |
I played with a guy once who had a really cool bass, because it wasn't one solid piece. It disconnected in the center, so the entire bass clarinet fit in a case about the size of an alto sax.
And I'm not saying it's very difficult to switch between saxes, but at first it does kind of mess you up a bit. Ever played a Contrabass Clarinet Puffin? Those things are fun. I've played both a pinned/clipped one, and a straight one...those things are so freaking tall. I'm working on getting a Contra Bassoon right now, only problem is I don't really have $50,000 :ranting: I have one on order making for me though, so I'm hoping in seven years when I get it, I'll have the money. :D |
I teach myself guitar. I have been for the last 5 years or so. I'm not too bad at it I guess. I'm working on my singing and songwriting so I ccan eventually record some songs.
I also used to play trombone in the school band. I should pick it up again. |
Piano -been playing for about 20 years now (of which 11 with lessons), but still not nearly as good as I would like to be, mostly due to infrequent practicing (which in turn is caused among other things by a somewhat unhealthy obsession for the thing I'm sitting behind right now  )!
I can also play some simple stuff on congo's and a bit of harmonica (self taught). Learning to play the cello is on my (long) todo-list! |

You think you have trouble with a bass clarinet? I used to know someone who carried a double bass to school every day! |
Quote:
I remember the first time I tried Bass Clarinet, I needed to stand on a chair to reach it :D I went on a masterclass course few years ago, with John McCaw (MAN he's good!!!). We had a band there, with bunch of clarinet players. I played 3rd clarinet then, but I had been playing for ca 5 years or so back then. Most of the people playing were pros  (Not participating in the course, but watching it.) It was awesome. It's one of the best band I've ever played with (along with my old symphony orchestra and my marching band when we reached our peak). In this band at the masterclass, we only had clarinets. It was awesome!! |
I start to play piano when I had 5 and stoped at 12. Why? Because I dont want to take lessons from teachers :not_ok:
|
Same with me, only that I started to play the piano at the age of 4 (I think, it's long ago...). But I stopped not because I didn't want to learn, but because there was family problem, and since I was 11 I didn't play piano anymore.
Right now I began to learn it again anew, with the help of my girlfriend. Yes, she can play piano, and really good, too. |
I like playing flutes. And the tinwhistle :D
And am self-teaching guitar for 2 weeks. Ooooh I feel I'm seriously reaching a master level  |
Accordion and keyboard
Used to go to music school long time ago (before many members were born :)) |
oooo. Tin whistle is fun. pretty close fingers to an sax ;-) Contrabass Flute? Can't say I've ever seen one of those...I must go google it.
Holy cow! That is freaking HUGE!!! That's like...a freaking ginormous flute. Also very cool :bleh: How much are they you say? edit: Oooo yeah, Accordian! How could I forget that! I really like playing those. Accordian and mandolin both go really well together (both of which I play) :D |
Holy #$^@ OMG This is even bigger than the Contrabass! A Double Contrabass flute? Freaking CRAZY! It has it's own little tripod stand thing!
|
I play trombone, euphonium, bass guitar, electric guitar and double bass. I can also do drums really badly and sing about half as well as that and mainly in school lessons which causes small problems especially my rendition of flash gordon with own drums :D
|
Well my parents did put me in the music school, but I wanted to quit (I really hated my solfegio teacher - theory) otherwise I should start learing the guitar. Never really liked it, but my brother had it (only know the basics - actually I really suck at it). But I tried the keyboards later on and I quite enjoyed it so I'm self thought on the keyboards (but I need to brush up a bit - haven't played for 4 years now - ever since I moved from home).
|
ahhh, your theory teacher made you learn solfegio? That bites! I lucked out and didn't really have to learn that system for sight singing because I've been blessed with "perfect pitch" (meaning, you tell me to sing a C, I can sing a C) I loved theory though...heck, I still do! It's so interesting to me...I LOVE it!
|
|
that's just a bugle of some sort though isn't it? Like, what they announce the arrival of a king with? They have to be big and long because they are compensating for the king :D But who needs a 10 foot tall flute?
|
Trombone. My rendition of the theme tune to "Postman Pat" is deeply moving. I taught myself bass guitar, but pretty much gave up, because I know too many people who are to good at bass guitar, and i'll never be that good. One of them is my good friend Drew MacNair. He played bass on the Krankies album 'Fandabee-dozie'. He also said he'd kill me if I told anyone.

I learned to play violin from 1996 - 2003/4 and I've played guitar since 2001 (I think), and bass since June 2004. I own a Violmaster violin, a Yamaha BB-404 bass and a SWR Basic Black bass amplifier.
My brother plays guitar. |
I play guitar. I have 2 guitars both Yamahas- the first one is acoustic 30 years old which my father use to play on, the second one is Yamaha pacifica 120s, I got it at bargain price for that one...
I've been playing guitar now for 2 years, before that I used to start and stop learning all the time... |
I play guitar and piano... I'd like to learn violin as well but I don't like to take lessons... I've learned everything I know on my own
|
I play the guitar, but nothing fancy...

I play the synth, so in a manner of speaking I can play any instrument you can come up with :)
I OWN a left-handed Gibson, just because. |
Electric guitar, but I'm no genius.
If I had the money, I would buy a Fender Stratocaster and possibly a new set of pickups. |
I play guitar, keyboard, harmonica, violin, drums and vocals(if that really counts), but the only think i dont suck at is guitar :P i'm in a band called Rune (http://www.rune-online.tk ^_^)
I own a n00b Aria guitar, and a Squier Showmaster. I hope to get a decent fender strat some day , cuz i really dislike the lock-on tremelo system on my showmaster. Oh and i once got sitar and tabla lessons when i was young, so i guess i could play that too :P |
For christmas I got a new bass...it is sooo beautiful. Just wearing it makes me feel powerful and sexy. I will now bore most of you with the statistics of this beautiful-never-need-to-buy-another-one bass.
Ernieball Musicman Discontinued Lined Fretless four string Sting Ray Original 1977 model Three EQ Piezo Bridge Truss Rod Birds-eye maple fretboard backing Pao-Ferro fretboard "GHS Flat-Bright" strings Fatty Humbucker pickup Black pickguard against Black body, white rim around pickguard edge Few things in life are as beautiful as this instrument...except for maybe my Bassoon. I love it to death though! |
Guitar, and banjo.
|
you got a musicman??? cool!!! my brother would kill for one of those!!!!!
congratulations! ;D my uncle gifted me my first electric guitar about 4 years ago... it's not very impresive at all.... it's obvioulsy better than a squier (squier suck except for the showmaster series) but it's wasn't good enough..... the last year i got a job... so i saved some money, went to a music store and afford my beautifull Ibanez RG470 ..... it's not the best guitar in the world... but when you got things like that and you know you got it by yourself ...... you feel great |

well, a standard musicman sounds amazing. A stingray is one of the most versatile basses. With the Humbucker pickup, they have lots of power. They have an unbelievable tone; just so incredibly smooth. You can play jazz/blues on a stingray, you can also slap and pop the crap out of the strings for funk. They all have a built in preamp as well.
My fretless sound is BEAUTIFUL! It is pretty dang close to a standup in quality, but it has a little more edge...until I turn up the piezo bridge, and then it is just so...orgasmically beautiful and awesome :-p It's one of the best basses I have ever played. Quite a wonderful step up from my old crappy squire. |
I finished musical school on bayan (like accordeon, but it has specific keyboard and sounds differ), but also I can play guitar a little and used to go to the orchestra, where I played bass-balalayka (it's like bass guitar, but has form of BIG balalayka and has three BIG strings).
|
i played bass. untill i cut my finger tips off on my left hand :(
|
I play Sound Forge, Fruity Loops, a Korg M1, and an IT/XM tracker.
I BRINGETH THE NOISE! |
I had learned to play piano when I was 10 or so but now, I forgot how. (dont you hate it when that happens?) so now, the piano keys are my keyboards keys. :D
|
I do piano for a few years now. I think I'm crap.
|
It's funny how almost everyone plays guitar. It makes me fell un-special
I play guitar in a Jazz band and sing in a chorus too. I have a Dean Evo-X and two amps, a Marshall and a Crate. I'm looking for a metal-ish band, or something cool. My Bro plays Bass a flute. I'm not really sure if the fingerings for the flute and the sax are the same, but....... |

I'm a freshman Music Performance Major, my main instrument is the trumpet, but I also play guitar. Love jazz, punk, ska, reggae, Stevie Wonder, and pretty much everything else that sounds good (ie. no rap or stupid modern country).
|
I played guitar but I stoped because my girlfriend said that she can't listen that. Now I'm playing piano. :D
|
I've played oboe for 7 years,
English horn for 5 years, and flute and alto sax for 4 years. |
I play the guitar and standup bass. Currently I play the standup bass and vocals for a rockabilly band. I started guitar a few years back and have played in two bands both of them were old school punk . But i wanted to try something new so i started playing the standup bass and joined the rockabilly group.

FL just can't top live music... |
Heh. We probably could make an orchestra! I had no idea, that there are so much musicians here!
|
i've playes the organ for about 10 years and the electric guitar for about 4 years...
now, i focus on creating digital noise by using synthesizers (software and harware devices...) |
I play drums for a band called 'Psycho Jesters'
|
I play guitar in "The Amplifiers" or "Forstaekerne" in danish.. Been playing for 2 years...
|
I took piano lessons when I was a kid...I don't remember much anymore
but I can still find Middle C and I play a really great Old Macdonald with my 3 sharp keys |
I played guitar for eight years, then I was forced to do piano for seven, cause my parents are mentally unstable.

i play piano, guitar and bass :)
|
Guitar mainly, for as long as I can remember.
Couple years ago a friend was starting a band and needed a bass player, so I tried the bass. Got in and played for 1 year, but can't say I'm that good of a bass player, I'm enough for what it was meant. Piano quite poorly. I bought one thinking that theory and practise would be enough for me to learn, but I don't have that much time anymore, and when I do I always pick up the guitar. |
I play the oboe - have done for years!
|
Piano and computer keyboard if valid.
|
I play keyboard, but my skill really has really levelled off over the last year and I can't really be bothered to put the effort in to be really good (as in play anything other than chords or bass notes on the left hand). I can play pretty well with boths hands separately, but not both hands well together. I can play chords really well and know most of them off by heart, bass lines are no problem. My right hand's movement is really quick too.
I tried really hard to get this good, but I just lost all confidence in myself after my girlfriend at the time cheated on me and I dumped her. Hard times, but there we are. Oh and if it counts I can do really nice stuff with the eJay products (especially Dance eJay 2+), but any person can use that with a little effort and all it takes to make samples longer/shorter/split is the time stretcher and the lengthening/shortening of samples actually on the track mixer that they're on. Oh I play in a band, The Iced Penguins. We play dance music, pre-recorded and also on Synths + Keyboards. *edits* I can sing well too. I have a low voice, but I can sing high notes to a certain extent. I used to be able to sing really, really high notes, but then my voice only had to go and break. Oh well, now I can metal instead of Linkin Park. |
Guitar and violin. Play in a band called "In Bread", weird new wave/experimental stuff.
|
Cool, how's that going for you?
|
Well, we're basically being forced to improve, seeing as we were given a gig right after our first practice. Other than that, we're getting there. The sound isn't bad at all.
|
My band has a gig tonight.. My first gig playing the bass :tomato:
|
Well then: Good Luck Puffin! :ok:
|
Yeah, good luck all of you whoare playing in the near future.
The problem with being in a dance band is that apart from the Battle of the Bands (hehey we're beating all of that emo crap) it's basically impossible to get gigs anywhere due to the whole not-being-eighteen thing. Seems they don't want fifteen-year-olds fraternising with real adults. Oh well. |
I play bass and I'm really wishing I was in a band, I was but sadly our lead singer was an emo kid so the moment we got an ace hardcore riff we had to use it as an intro followed by emoness.
|
I know how you feel, man. Also, emo kids hate anyone who doesn't enjoy their music, generally referring to them (and I quote, I'm not trying to be offensive) 'Indie ******s' which is just ridiculous when there is so much variation out there and just label it as all the same.
|
I've never heard an emo kid refer to anyone as an "indy ******". Infact, I've never heard the term before, considering indy rockers are known for their extremely refined tastes in underground rock. I have heard the term "emo ***" though, which generally is logical considering some of the lyrical subject matter in songs by bands like Cursive (who are, infact, very, very good). Somehow, I can't see an emo kid calling an indy kid a ******.
|
I play the drums and drumset..........
DUHHHHHH............ LOL LOL LOL I wanna start playin Guitar though :guitar: |
Well, it's been said more than once to me when I said that I thought Funeral For a Friend et al a load of crap and that there were plenty of other bands which didn't need to pretend to be American to be good.
In their words 'people sing with an American accent because emo is an American style of music'. This is just a load of bollocks. There are plenty of punk bands and most of them just sing in their native accent. Rock is usually sung, again, in its native accent. Emo is just about the only music in which the people pretend to be someone else just to please the foolish who claim that anyone who doesn't like their music is a '******'. But there you are, sometimes music does that to people. I just listen to anything that sounds good, from Airut to DJ Shadow. drumminfreek, I hope that goes well for you. I have ummed and ahhed over whether to start playing guitar for a while, before realising that it's only really useful if I want to play in a rock band a the lead vocalist. The thought sort of went through my mind but in the end 'nah' was always the answer. I like keyboards and music creation programs more than the idea of being groupie-laden and high all the time. I don't know why, but that has never appealed to me. |
ThanX :D :D
my cousin is awesome at playing guitar shes gonna teach me to play... :guitar: <me 1 day!! LOL |
i bin in a few bands (never made f all money, was high all the time, had a few hangers on) woulda bin cool to make it but there u go, now i jus do a bit o egineering for freinds whose bands havnt f'd up, lil bit o promoting 2, ect..
first thing i did was sing, also learnt guitar an bass (kinda goes wiout saying tho, if u can play guitar wont take u long to get the hang o bass) an i love mah music software, sonic foundry stuff rules, specially acid (the fastest way to make cool loops an sequance loads of audio stably) unfortunatly its vst support sux donkeys but ahh well, cld be mah system . need a 3 gig monstah at least i think to get stable perfomance from that thing with vst instrumens altho i do have a copy o magix somewhere, gonna dig it up cuz it is basically logic without the enviroment level an its a lot better than acid for recording due to the way its mixer is set up. |
i have a sonic software thing....actually my brother does and i stole it from him... :D
its called SUPER DUPER MUSIC LOOPER... kinda childish but its cool and easy to use :ok: |
as long as it does the trick is all that counts, as long as it aint ejay, im not gonna sneer, altho i guess even ejay is good for people new to the wondefull wide world of music software, dont stop me hatin it tho LOL, dam construction kits, they detract from the creativity.
|
I played keyboard for about 5 or 6 years - after that my Yamaha PSR-530 is standing in my room catching dust ;) I'm using the stuff I've leard on the computer with programs like FL5, Cubase and so on ...
|
sx im assuming, is definatly a dam cool app, fl5 also on my 2 get list LOL im still on 3, which is a tight vst sequancer i gotta say it can handle a rackmount o the darn things even on my humble 1.1 ghz!
|
I play guitar, pretty badly, I guess, but I have fun, and that's what counts for me :)
|
its all that counts, as long as u know how to tune it, an play a few chords, the fact that you are enjoying yourself will translate itself into your music :ok:
|
thats cool! :D
if youve read my earlier notes...i stink at guitar. i sorta sound like a coyote in a trash compacter when i play!! LOL I just got done with a practice with my band and im doin awesome at drums though!! :ok: |
stick with the drums man. when you are starting a band drummers can be a pig to find. in this town a good drummer tends to be in 2 or three bands. you cant move without tripping over a guitarist tho.
|
I play the Tabla pretty well. Im learning how to play the guitar but thats only coz i love to hear the sound of it. Nothing like a little strumming to relax yourself. its really quite soothing. i even managed to come up with a darn good tune! But if you really want to listen to something awesome , you should listen to me playing the tabla. I transferred some of the stuff i did onto the computer and even did a little mod to it. Turned out great for me.
|
Really? Thats AWESOME!!
That would give me a better chance at making it big!! :w00t: :w00t: but probably not...you know what i mean... LOL |
I play the drums, and im frigging average at it.
Well, not that bad, just need a better set of cymbals and new skins of ebay I try to play the acoustic but would rather get a friends electric and have a bash on that, especially with the pedals. Oooh and I can also play the recorder, yeh, still know how to play that from years ago. Btw, at my school its not hard to find a decent drummer, infact theres probably more good drummers then good guitarists at my school, the only thing that is lacking is good bassists. |
My school's full of crap vocalists and emo-kids, sadly.
|
ive played an electric set! :w00t:
those are awesome... the one i played was a V-Drum!! :D |
Wow, electric sets are fun, you can play anything on them, you can even play the guitar on it or set it to make people talk etc..... However electrics are reallly reallly expensive, I mean the lower range full kit ones come at around ?1000 and the better ones are much much more.
One good thing about the good electric drumsets is that they are easy to transport and you can adjust the sounds with the amps so it makes it good for playing in bands and gigs, however it just doesnt have the same feel to it as an acoustic. |
They are awesome!! :D
the one i played had a setting for "CARTOON" there was like bird sounds and a dog barking and my hi-hat was a car sound... i thought that was cool... LOL |
