Questions, questions

As You probably know the game Command & Conquer consist of the next
sub games:

1. Command & Conquer
2. Command & Conquer Red Alert
3. Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun
4. Command & Conquer Renegade
5. Command & Conquer Red Alert II
6. Command & Conquer Generals

Would You be so kind tell Your opinion:
Are these 6 separate games one game or not?
The question will define more accurately my passed games.
Thank You very much for Your time and help.

My favorite is Renegade.
I like Renegades, Heretics.

Smiling Spectre 03-12-2014 07:32 AM

I would use words like "franchise" or "series" instead "Game", Yoga. :) Or you can say that all Goldboxes, from Pool of Radiance to Buck Rogers, are the same game. They even have almost the same engine! :)

No, technically speaking, there are this games around (according to the Moby):

1. Command & Conquer
2. Command & Conquer: Red Alert
3. Command & Conquer: Sole Survivor
4. Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun
5. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
6. Command & Conquer: Renegade
7. Command & Conquer: Generals
8. Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
9. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3
10. Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight

Everything else are not games, but addons, compilations, etc. :)

And these compilatioms are able to grow up?
OK.
BTW,
what of abovementioned is Your favorite, if any?

Oh, there are about 2-3 addons to almost every of the forementioned games. So make game as is, addon as is, game+addon, second addon, game+2 addons, 2 addons separately, add next game, two basic games without addons, two games with all addons, three games, where only last have all addons... Possibilities are limitless! :D

Sorry, yoga. I am bad with the reflexes-based games. I am bad with simultaneous multi-activities in general. And all C&Cs are RTSes, that makes it almost unusable for me. :)

All except Renegade, of course. :)

Bravo, good shot!
BTW, the face of Haboc is same as Ivanushka Idiot"s face.
ha ha ha
Do You know how brave eliminated the very strong Mendoza?
Remember? 5 or 6 epizode.
I entered the room with that girl, who rescued after long battle with rocket launchers and like with this man.
But i set up 2 mines at the entrance and when Mendoza appeared, thinking that he found brave in closed area, the last activates mines and he was blown in air.
The last is Yr slave aka Vl.:smile2:

QUESTION N 2:
No icon pictures.

No pictures of my Mozilla browser toolbar icons.

Hi, mates,
I am using both browsers Mozilla and Chrome now.
No IE at all.

My problem:
You will see in enclosed attachment that some icons from Mozilla
browser are just empty white squares. Bad situation because I dunno
some icon what shows.
Till Chrome is OK. All icons have color pictures.
Do You know how to join pictures to icons?
Thank You for Yr help and time.

I never seen Mozilla, but in most Windows environments right click works all right. ;)

Strange.
Be sure that i tried RMB on the icons but new opened window can not help me. TY for Yr time and help.

Command and Conquer Renegade

I would like to make a comment on some tank operations in the city at C&CR.
Being a true tank commander (lead 10 tanks) I disagree to enter the tanks in the narrow town streets.
I would never let my troops to fight there.
Only few soldiers hidden on the second floor with cocktails Morotov will defeat us.
C&CR commanders are real idiots. They never entered the tank or shot with tank machine guns or tank cannon.

Third question – C&C Renegade
Hi, all,
I started the game Command & Conquer Renegade of EA v1.037.BH-838 01/23/003.
Now I am playing episode 11 – Tomorrows technology today.
I am GDI.
I did 6 objectives. Left one.
  1. Primary - Sabotage Temple of Nod – Pending
  2. Primary – Access Southeastern gate – Accomplished
  3. Primary – Acquire Base security card – Accomplished
  4. Secondary – Disable Southern SAM site – Accomplished
  5. Secondary – Disable Eastern SAM site – Accomplished
  6. Secondary – Disable Hand of Nod – Accomplished
  7. Secondary – Disable Tiberian refinery – Accomplished
I have no problem with armor, weapons and health.
I am located in Mammoth tank and prepare to enter Obelisk area.
But this obelisk killed me at once when I am close to it.
First I hear strange sound – about 1-2 seconds, then immediately fire beam from Ob killed me.
Never mind my health is max. 200 and armor is the nice one.
When in tank Ob needs 3-4 times to smash the tank then to kill me.
I tried to run to OB zigzag (juke), no result.
Some game experts spoke about a launcher which is able to destroy Ob.
No such around me?
May someone help me?
Thank You very much.
:hihihi:
PS: Sorry for BW attachment, colored is about 900 Kb and AB rules dont allow this volume.
Downstream and right is waiting for me the Obelisk.
brave is in the tank.
I just destroyed GDI Refinery. Tank cannons shows this facility (top).

No idea on your icons, I don't even have icons with current Mozilla.
I think it is possible they left some empty space to fill optionally. Or you have any idea what the icons supposed to be?

ON the C&C series: in the original C&C I could never pass the level where you are with the good guys, you have a regeneration pod, no chance for any other building, no harvester, only 1 strong tank, and the enemy (the weed-worshipping terrorists) has a laser tower. You have no aircraft to dispose the tower.
That was my only try with the series (gave it two goes in the years).

Yes.
I am using the last version of Firefox of Mozilla Co. available - 34.0.5
Using this Bookmarks bar is very handy for me because every icon shows some site to enter. And pictures are specific and again help me to orient.
Till now i have to point empty icon and read what is the site.
Not really because i know every icon after years of usage.
This is not fatal problem anyway for experienced user.

Renegade
Bad news for me.
I have not Original game but some fake. Rats!!
Dear twillight, would You be so kind, informing me about:
- Do You meet this Obelisk and if Yes how do You run around it being not imm. kill by its dead fire beams?
Thanks.

Details:
In attachment Yr slave is out of tank (it is 10 meters behind me) at save distance from the tower - actually famous Obelisk.
I show the save shelter.
Every step out of shelter is deadly.
So i am stopped and my mission failed.
:(

twillight 10-12-2014 09:38 AM

According to some alkthrough you should avoid the Obelisk in C&C:Renegade until you disable the Power Plant from inside of the Power Plant.

Otherwise you can NOT avoid the Obelisk, as that has 360 degree instant attack (and instant destroy on anything but the most heavy units) on any ground thingy.

This is the exact problem I talked in my game, where you can not even disable the Obelisk by destroying something else (as far as I know).

The original game by the way is accessible on Abandonia!

Thanks a lot,

Your words clear the situation.
I have to rethink my condition now.

I have no idea about the game - but you seems solved it anyway - but you don't need to resort to _such_ poor shots. Use JPG instead PNG. :) It have internal lossy compression, so will give you much lesser size with adequate quality.

Sure?
Good idea and i will try.

@twillight
I was played the version of C&C from Abandonia.
Sadly it not contains addon Renegade.

twillight 11-12-2014 08:59 AM

I'd counter that jpg vs png thing.

As I noticed in practice jpg has worse quality in colouration, and like 10-times the size compared to png.

But test it for yourself, that1s the only sure way.

Smiling Spectre 11-12-2014 10:52 AM

You are right about color - or rather blurness+artifacts - of the image. But it's sure better than crisp black&white for me. :)

Checked from this shot. It's JPG with the size of 60kb. Same shot converted to PNG became 515kb. So yes, you are right about 10x size too. ;)

O, yes, Your picture is very nice compared with my crisp B&W.
I will try next time.
But it is very strange for me person with 270 games (true?) never heard about C&C!
Het.
I do not believe.
Moreover You are really one of battling sides in the game.
Ha ha ha.

1. It's much more. 270 are unfinished games that registered on Steam. ;)

2. Oh, _knowing_ about game and _playing_ the game are not synonyms. I never finished even one level of the any id game, except Heretic. I even didn't see full version of Half-Life. So what? I know _about_ them, they are simply not very "my" games. :)

Bravo, SS.
Bravo.
Poor brave has passed 94 games only. Sob..sob..
Heretic? O, my respect!
You are speaking about Heretic 1.3, because this game contains 5 add-ons.

I attach C&C picture which is JPG and much more better than crisp B&W.

Humble but brave yoga solves the Obelisk problem. How?
Not easy. A friend of mine presents me another original Renegade.
Trembling, I passed as a running devil all 10 episodes till N 11.
I opened the door, entered with tank and trembling as young boy at first love meeting started to wait some mysterious helicopter to bring me strong launcher which will destroy the famous OB.
Not at all.
So what?
To do?
Following the method of Sherlock Holmes I said to brain cells to start.
Result was – Open fire with both tank cannons against Obelisk.
Voilaaaa – after 3 shots Ob was down.
Hurray!
:hihihi:
I am attaching a prove that OB is damaged now.
I am very close to not functional OB.

sob..sob..
Anyway, You know that yogi live long en.
So, maybe some happy day......

Ah, some words about the game Renegade.
Very nice game.
The protagonist (even his behaviour of durachok) is amiable.
The graphic and music are nice too.
Hard moments?
Not really, but i had to reload some missions when my task was to Escort and protect members of my squad and Miss Sidney and his father - both doctors.
Because they were let say non controllable and a little crazy.
They not observed my commands at all!
Doctor Petrova was amazing.
Please, note how correct pronounce his name Havoc.
As a real Bulgarian or Russian.
Even his accent was correct.
:smile2:
Simply, i recommend this game of every fan of Doom-like games.
(In fact one can not play RPG only!)

Brutal Doom

1 Attachment(s)
I am playing now Brutal Doom.
Without Doom 1 and Doom 2. (Passed).
Plutonia wad and Ultimate wad with 2 more.
I was very surprised to see that i am unable to kill any monster, who is
at no same level as me.
If it is located at ladder i have to step up to its level to kill the monster.
It is very unhandy.
:palm:
My future 10 games are presented also here.
Hmmm.
I used Writer then Printscreen.
Writer underlined with red color some "wrong"words. Sry.

Si,si, Caro Capo.
:smile2:
You played this sepies?
For me You are the best gamer here and there
and i respect You.
.....
Mates,
i started a new game and i am shocked!!!
Allien Vendeta.
This is a Wad game from Brutal Doom.
Imposible hard and difficult.
Mamma Mia!!
There are seven levels of diff.
I choose the easiest -Imp-and ha ha ha
even imp i am advancing very, very slow..
Still level 2.
The game is so hard (try it if not believe me!!) that i use next method.
Excuse me Caro Capo i think this is not cheating:..
.I type down IDDQD and pass the level, then started the game again
without iddqd (invincible God mode) and play it.
Even then i progress as turtle..
After every door wait me 5-7 zombi soldiers, Imps attacked me with white
flashes, monsters appeared from nowhere.. real Inferno.
Just before 2 hours i found Rocket launcher, after Machine gun.
Moreover the unhandy shooting, namely:
To be more effective i have to use Strafe move. Shooting, Strafe, Load, Rest, again..
Alt+Directions keys. (<- and ->)
Ctrl is for shooting.
But targets are located at different levels and i have to use mouse to level them?! Moving mouse i level the target. Then use Left mouse button to shoot. But this action needs time and enemiens do not wait me to be ready!!
OK.
My right hand is for mouse.
My left hand (sorry) is no so big to use Right Alt + Right direction key (->) easy and ...
I need one more hand, please.:smugulon:
Simply terror..

So
time for rock and roll.
as Havoc said...

Agreed. 60% everywhere, that is not the good sign.

BTW, yoga, real Gothic creators (that are Piranha Bytes) makes Risen series now, that is spiritual successor of Gothic - but it also have not much better scores. :)

twillight 22-12-2014 10:28 PM

Yep, not at all the same series, but that was the only title as G5.

But there are actually a 4th installment for the Gothic-series, an "expansion" of the 3rd game (more like a separate game which demands the original game installed, likely for engine-purpose), called "Forsaken Gods".

Other issue: peaked on Alien Vendetta, and it is a lul. Doom was a dungeon-crawler with tactical parts of the fights, but this mod looks they transformed it into an action-packed adrenalin-bomb. sounds funny, but even a 2 minute video of it made me sea-sick,so no chance I'll ever go back to a doom-engine game:wacko:

Well, if they are made with the doom or the quake engine, than I won't.

But there are other games, or even if they use a quake-engine, it can be refined for another frequency, so there are some I CAN play if I want, like aside the intro part Requiem: Avenging Angel could work (if I'd install just for that win 98), or Hunted: the Demon Forge. Also, I had no problem during Shadowman either.

Wow,
i see You are expert in this field also.
..
But Win 98 now?
Do You use Oracle VM Virtual box or other program?

twillight 31-12-2014 07:01 AM

I never found a working win98-simulator yet, and to be honest, it was yet not worth the effort.
I mean yes, there are a handful of games I'd like to make work, but it is not a matter of life and death.

Still, i'll look up that OVMV thingy, but if it is like dosbox, I'll likely not master it soon.

For dosbox I only want to run the bloody programs to tell you, and what I get? Ok, there is that "mount" the directory, necessary evil. But than there is the work with cd images: why I have to type a full pages of commands? why can't I have a single command like "mount"? Why isn't there just one button, if the pushing all the combination of buttons is really just smoke&mirror?
now imagine if it is something a wee bit complicated than simple DOS...

Hmmm..
I have 2 PC:
1 with W 7 Pro 32-bit and virtual mounted XP Pro. XP is mounted after W 7
using Oracle VM Virtual box.
Comments:
This virtual XP does not identifies my DVD device and does not allow Drag and Drop files from W 7 screen to XP and vice versa.
My aim was to use this virtual XP as test environment.
Sad to say i am disappointed from this virtual machine.
So i decided to use my second PC as replacement of XP and mounted new XP Pro at the second machine using regular way. It is perfect to play old games and to be reserve variant.
Dear twillight You helped me many times here.
I will make the next test and if it is successful i will inform You for details:
At the second PC (with XP) i will try to install virtual Win 98 (maybe SecondEdition) by Oracle or Windows programs.
Little patience please.
...
Hurray!
I have all 10 available weapons in Alien Vendetta - Brutal doom.
Now brave is more strong.

Very hard game.
Even the best gamers here -
Caro Capo and Smiling Spectre will not pass the game.
I know only 2 specialists who will win the game:
Master Scatty and Kmonster (and humble brave).
Sadly they stop their activity here.

Why isn't there just one button, if the pushing all the combination of buttons is really just smoke&mirror?

1. Most (but not all) games can be started by dragging needed file onto DOSBox icon. It will automatically execute for you this two commands:

mount c [gamepath]
[gamename]

i.e. if you'll drag game.exe, it will automatically start it. If you'll drag GAMES dir, it will mount GAMES as C. If you'll drag D:\GAMES\SORCERER\SORC.INI, it will mount D:\GAMES\SORCERER as C and will give you the error "cannot start SORC.INI". :)

2. Use Ykwong build (Yay! Ykwong is alive! New, 2015 build! I was worried.) It gives you windows menues, invaluable for the mounting CDs and floppies.

JPEG is invaluable when you need to stick many info in the little size. Like on this forum. :)

If I need to preserve full info in the minimum space I am using PNG too. ;)

Yesterday i received fatal error message starting my main PC with W7 32-bit Pro:

Sadly, i believed, stupid me, that W7 is non vulnerable and did not prepared Rescue disk.
Any help and advice what to do will be very appreciated.
Detail:
I am writing from my second, reserve PC;
weak PC with XP pro. I have DVD device but very old and not writable.

Probably that error is caused by a pirated fallout 3

"Invalid partition table!" when booting

If you use BIOS+MBR boot method and msdos partition table, the BIOS may show this error message before entering Syslinux or other boot loaders. To bypass it, press Enter. To prevent it, put the "boot" flag on a primary partition (instead of a logical partition). You may refer to the wiki page of your boot loader to see how this works. It may be a "kindly reminder" to Windows users, since Windows can only boot on primary partitions.

Smiling Spectre 11-02-2015 06:10 PM

1. Attach your failed HDD to your WinXP.
2. Check disk. If it's alive, chances are, you really did something wrong with partitions/BIOS/disk types. (You didn't mess with BIOS recently, like, touching this sensitive UEFI, or SATA, or something settings?).

WTH is Open Ofice being illegal? who said that?

System Failure: No idea, but you can likely save your data by attaching the HDD when starting you computer from another OP. Then do what the others say, or just copy all your important files, and reinstall win7.

the whole issue might be the result of the latest win-patch which force-installs itself, and I bet each Win7 update has a code which checks how many times the OP was updated, and kills Win7 after a certain number. just to FUup.

twillight 13-02-2015 07:33 AM

Chaos Strikes Back - expansion of Dungeon Master. No other expansion, no patches.

Dungeon Master Nexus - sequel to Dungeon Master. No patches.

Therons Quest - modified version of Dungeon Master. No patches. Mazes are mostly identical with the original (although there are 7 segments instead of 1 giant one), only the story differs. And less monsters.

Nexus is 15 years old, the others 25. No idea on the selling, go and offer them, then abandonia-staff can look that up 4 u. But as they were mostly Amiga-games, which platform is extinct, you have my bet. Especially that workshops work on remakes.

PS: never tasted mangold (mángold, Beta vulgaris whatever). Last I heared about it was in some old action-history book (Robinson Crusoe/Huckleberry Fin/Three Musqueteer hungarian equialent):lame:

You are lucky man!
Still do not know and play the nice series:
Eye of the beholder 1,2,3
and
Betrayal at Krondor
(yes, i remember Yr correct remarks about bad graphics ).
Politely recommend You EOTB 1,2,3 but do not dare to say the same for BaK.
:hihihi:
You say nothing bout Yr future games plan?
No Lode Runner?

twillight 14-02-2015 07:20 PM

Yep, likely I used wrong button or something and the picture ended up too big.

And as I aid this is NOT THE complete list (especially as it does not include flashgames), just a list after skimming through what abandonia currently offers.

------

No, no Lode Runner. Even though I play since Commodore 64 I still did not touch, and especially not passed everything.

--------

Although I said nothing about future plans... I have none. I might try once in the far future trying to install Might and Magic 9, maybe play a little Diablo 2, or Hunted: the demon forge, but I think I played everything, watched every movie (and tv-series), and read each book worthy to read (the last book I still read, but it'll end in the predictable future). In two monthes even my favourite comicbook series (Swamp Thing) will end.
But this has an advantage. While everyone else is wishing after things I saw everything, did everything. There remains no distraction.

I'm not really into crimis, mostly because they are mostly "crime stories", not crimis, which I define stories where the reader is made able to figure out who-how-why did the crime.
So for me Agatha Christies stories (neither one!) is crimi. Sherlock Holmes on the other hand is excelent both in the puzzles and the reading-factor.

Egg. Reptiles layed eggs way before chicken evolved.
Devils do not exist outside literature. So as many as I write they do. That means from zero to infinite. Or even negative number.
You remember how they illustrated negative numbers in the joke?

Do you understand, Yoga, that with this "solution" you simply resetted your BIOS?

...And "BIOS tweaking" was my first guess. ;)

...Also, most (if not all) motherboards have switch/contact pair marked "BIOS reset", without resorting to aforementioned barbaric techniques. ;P

Smiling Spectre 20-02-2015 07:13 AM

No Chaos for me. (It's DM clone, as I remember? Thank you, I have one DM/EoB clone, and it's Legend of Grimrock :).

Arcanum is very good. Only counterpart of Fallout (in terms of freedom, tasks to do and multiple paths to use) at the early 2000s. It's main problem is too underlevelled monsters, especially for second part of the game. But overall setting, quests and searches more than covers this omission. :)

Hi, mates.
Yes, i am deep in this nice game.
Level 20, about 150 hours gaming.
In the beginning i want to make important note about playing:
- In this game we have 3 classes of weapons ]
- bare hands
- ordinary weapons
- laser, plasma and nuclear
Do not use bare hands and ordinary weapons as pistols, machine guns and like. It is waste of time.
Simply concentrate on last category weapons and will have no problems with all monsters.
-laser pistol, plasma rifle and like.
I am using now Gauss rifle and Micro nuclear hyper apparature Alpha.
My habits (traits)
Science is 83 points
Energy weapon is 85 points.
The last 2 habits gave me good modern weapons.
You will avoid routine opeartion of making non stop patrons for many calipers - Magnum or like.
Sorry, the game is in Russian lang. It is very good for me because i like and understand this lang.
-Да здравствует Матушка Русс-
Respect dear SS.
Now i have to translate from Russian to English lang which is little strange for me.
Ha ha
Excuse me if i use some other words.
Little details for my gaming pls:
I just killed the strongest for me monsters Deadclaws near to town of Slout. They were my biggest enemies. But i was not alone but supported by:
1. My flying robot Ed-3
2. My companion miss Kess - ex-caravan leader.
3. I am able to ask for help using special radio station - Female ranger appeared after my call.
My only problem is that i do not reach Ranger post Foxtrot. I know its location but around the post i met terrible rocks and till now i am unable to reach it.
Post Charlie still not find on the map.
I found posts Alpha, Bravo, Delta and Echo.

Smiling Spectre 03-04-2015 07:10 AM

You experienced some hardware problem, dear SS?
A little bit more info, if possible?
Version or like?

Smiling Spectre 06-04-2015 08:16 AM

Thank you, Yoga, but as I said, this problem cannot be solved.

Game is Soul Reaver 1.

At the start of underwater zone there are water vampires respawn, with erratic movement pattern that triggers in set radius arond hero.

And with this pattern vampire have non-zero chance to leave water, going slightly over surface.

And if it will happen (and it happened), you are doomed. Every check for movement when hero is in range immediately crashing the game. So zone cannot be solved at all.

Only possible hack is "teleport" around this zone to the next one. With obvious problem of crash if hero still will reach zone close to water vampire in question (you don't need to see him. Obviously, pattern triggers in absolute radius, taken from level, and ignoring walls and vertical positioning of the level.)

Oh, well, game is too old, so no one have sources now. :/

Official forums still alive though. But everything that they could offer is "use existing debug tool to teleport over zone to the next one". That is not exactly what I want... :)

Oh, well, I suppose, I'll try the game in Steam-adapted form anew. Maybe they fixed the bug, unaware of it? :)

Well, I refreshed my list including commodore 64 games. Might have been some more back than, but who cares. Interesting part on the list two games were added which were known on another name than their title:
- Hunchback was called Quasimodo (you can't blame them). Man, this was some "best jump&duck" game!
- Grand Prix Circuit was known by everyone as a Test Drive game!

With this this is 173 games. Will have to come up with a new solution next time!

I care, dear twillight.
May i ask You to say 2 words for the games
1. Shadow man
2. Wizard of War ?
Yes, You played before many times but Yr memory is good enough.
Hmm.. i think Yr games are not 173 but more.
You do not list some of them..i suppose.
Legend of Grimrock?

twillight 12-04-2015 06:26 PM

Yes, I have plenty of more games to add. Eg. if I add a rough number of flashgames I played (who knew quest/achievement system of sites would come in handy?) I'm around 300. And my purse is not empty with just that.

------

Legend of Gimrock: never heard of it.

--------

Wizard of wOr, not Wiazrd of w"a"r.
It was a one-screen game, which always had some exit(s) on the side, if which you passed you came back on the other side of the screen. You could play it with someone else, and as the shots could kill the other player's characters (starting with 3, maximum 4 if I remember correctly) you could either play versus (the looser is who looses members/lives sooner, the winner shall then volunteraly die), or coop (in which case you had to pay attention to not shoot the other player, and not take the safe place on their side of the screen).
The goal was to kill all the creatures on the screen, which had 3 type: slow blue, faster yellow, and fast red which shot two shots at once.
Every once in a while (not sure if it was random or fixed) bonus round after all monster is killed, in which case two monsters could appear: a fast randomly flying butterfly, or The Wizard of Wor (I assume) who was fast, could shoot, and teleported randomly. The bonus round ended after the timer ran out (timer not shown), or a player lost a character, or the creature got killed.
The game had a set number of levels which could cycle indefinitely, and I could reach new cycle, what counts as beating the game, which otherwise had no proper ending.
VIDEO

----------

Shadowman:
I got a working version for Win7 from GoG. It is a ghost/horror game with HUGH levels, which worked more like Myst, but with way more puzzles and unlockables.
The game is here too, on abandonia, but I'm not sure of its integrity. Still, if you can manage to make it work, it is better to try out as a "demo" before buying it, as when I ment the game has HUGH levels I ment it. And it is NOT a Doom, aka. the action is less intense. It is more about the atmosphere, created by the visuals, background lore (given mostly ingame), and collectibles.
Also, the game does not have any ingame map, so manual drawing is necessary.

Capo 12-04-2015 08:46 PM

Legend of Gimrock is very good but is easier in comparison with old dungeon crawler.

End of Fallout New Vegas

:smile2:
Yes,
i decide to stop FNV.
Why?
Because i fulfiled my tasks:
- To kill Caesar. Done.
- To kill Mr. House. Done.
After 202 hours of playing i found that this nice game is
easy game for me.

Tasks like that:
..Go to broken minibus and find compass..
Or: ..Kill 2 gekons...is a real insult for brave.

Ha ha

Anyway i strongly recommend this nice game-real gem.

Again my big thanks to wise twillight, who directed me to FNV.

thankful yoga
:lame:
Proves, yoga?
- O, no, i am loyal man and player.
2 words only:
Caeser just stayed and did not resist when i started to fire. Stupid idiot.
Mr. House was very old mummy who was in special camera.
No resistance of all.
Piece of cake..

Ax, forget - level 30.
Preview?
Ask my friend twillight.
I am lazy hooligan.

..what is the next?

You complained for no excitement. I say start with Doom 3.

Alon in the dark is mostly a puzzle-game still. I don't know arcanum of what, but you'd go MAD about Planescape Torment if you think it'll be Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale. No, it'll be reading, reading, and more reading!

Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver looks a lot like Shadowman, good luckfor it if you choose that.

Please, for a little don't play Might and magic 9. I wish to go first! (I still did nothing after creating a party being busy:sick:)

Capo 14-04-2015 03:42 PM

Actually Caesar has a lot of bodyguards, also mr House has multipe robots guards.

Smiling Spectre 14-04-2015 10:46 PM

Doom 3 – you know it. Peoples complained about predictability, and too much darkness, and teleports. Darkness was relieved with embedded flashlight later. Never played the game. :)

Alone in the dark 4 – it still puzzle/horror in style of Resident Evil (i.e. less for horror and puzzles, more for kills).

Arcanum of ...– good RPG in vein (and from authors) of Fallout and Fallout: New Vegas. :) Battle system is quite cripples, but it more than covers it with quest system, vast world and tons of interactions.

Planescape Torment – the best realization of pen-and-paper RPG that I know. Lot of text, lot of choices, occasional combats and totally unusual protagonist and plot in whole. My choice... but I am exactly in _this_ field of games. :)

Might and Magic 9 – it's not exactly M&M in terms of universe, diversity and plot. Still can be enjoyable, I suppose.

Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver – metroidvania with extensive plot. I.e., gameplay is "explore level, gain a lot of knowledge by the way, find the boss, kill him and receive new cool ability that will allow you to enter next zone and also found several secrets at the old ones". :)

Choose yourself! :)

P.S. Did you try System Shock? It's semi-shooter/semi-puzzle/RPG at the space station with huge levels and several puzzles. Can be tuned to be less puzzled (or less action) or go just opposite. Highly recommended.

Grazie, Caro Capo for recommendation of Planescape..
I will only note that a friend of mine told me that this game
is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery long and terrrrrrrrrible hard. True?
..
About FNV:
You are abs. right.
But i landed the Fort with :
1. My flying robot Ed-3
2. My helper - Lady Kess
3. Ranger from NCR
and eliminated all guards of Caesar then i entered his tent.
Again battle....
He, Caesar stayed without speaking together
with bad Benny, tied to his knees.
After short conversation i killed Caesar then Benny.
Yes, it is not morality to kill tied man at his knees
but You remember bad things he Benny did with me.
...
Yes, Mr. House was guarded by many security robots second generation but:
- I used Ct boy option to became unseen for first robot. The wall opened by PC. Another 3-4 robots were guarding door to Control room with his boss.
They saw me and started firing. But i was very fast and in advance used some potion for defence.
I checked my HP after entered Control room.
280 from max of 330 HP.
50 HP loosed from robots guns.
For my task was enough even 1 HP.
Do not forget that brave had about 70 stimulators, every one = 60 HP.
Moreover MR. House was very old mummy with no any defence device, amigo.
No, the game is too easy for Winner of Chaos aka brave yoga.
:smile2:
For You?

Planescape is long and hard if you play it right.
If you only play it to play it through once, it is very easy. Everyone can talk, most enemies are lvl 1 zombies, and even the hard enemies which you actually have to kill are at worst medium hard. And if I remember right, all bosses are clvl-related. Not to mention the central quests are very few (find Pharod, find the Globe, find the journal, pass some planes, kill boss).

The fun part is when you realise you speak with the letter O, or when you meet a guy who tells you how did he survived on the Negative Plane: "Nothing can beat nothing. So I kept nothing in my hand."

Or this event:

"Nordom: if you have a story to trade, please share it with Yves."

Nordom: "In the 13.7th Revolution, we were required to fix gear and cog sub-set thirty-one in the fifth ring of Mechanus. We removed the obstruction and the gear turned as per its normal speed. Upon completing our task, we were then returned to the Source."

Morte: "What in the hells was that, you stupid polygon?! That's the most boring story I ever heard!"

Nordom: "It was what took place. With embellishments, of course."

Morte: "Embellishments?"

Nordom: "I thought the return to Source was a particularly fitting image to close the tale."

Ha ha ha,
The conversation between Morte and Nordom is similar
to the one in my favorite book "Alice in the wonderland":

Chapter VII: A MAD TEA-PARTY
Quotation:
..Take some more tea, the March Hare said to Alice,
very earnestly.
.I"ve had nothing yet, Alice replied in an offended tone, so i cant take more..
:smile2:
But my lovely moment is when smoking Caterpillar said to Alice:
-Repeat You are old, Father William-

Hey, start instead Might and Magic 9, pls.
Yesterday I tried to run it, but I had severe headache, and loading-problems. I'd be glad if I could hear about it from someone at least if I'll get permanently stuck which is highly likely :(

But for Planescape either way: start with at least 12 charisma, ok?

Nice.

And just to help you out with Planescape I looked up my old files, and CHA 11 (not 12) is the minimum. There is a trick that casting Friend can end you so much charisma you'll have infinite money, but the prime importance is a unique ring at the beginning from the ghost-lady, at which point you can not cast Friend or boost your stats otherwise. And I think this is a bug, there should be no requirement.
For a reason there are plenty of equipments in the game, but rings are rare.

I don't give you the actual "suggested starting stats for completionists" because that'd be too meta.

Capo 16-04-2015 04:18 PM

Advice: Dont ruin your game experience using lame exploits. Torment is such an unique game.

I never thought a top10 videogames, let's try a quicky:
...

Dang, I better try another version:
- Fallout 2: most memorable
- Heroes of Might and Magic 3: longest time to pass (1.5 years, no walkthrough used)
- Resident Evil 2: most satisfying completion (try ToFu Survivor!)
- Cobra City: best xxx-game
- Baldies: best game I never completed (got stuck. I'll never officially give up though!)
- Planescape Torment: most famous/respected game I ever played
- Maniac Mansion: the game I longest have (since C64. First completion was on PC, but this wasn't about completion for me)

:smile2:
PP1 is good game for its time.
Mr. Mechner created real gem.
My best time is 42 min. from 60. I runned with 3 lifes only. No time for more.
I remember one no two funny details:
-First when my screen becames upside-dowm.
My bro adviced to upside-down my monitor. Lol.
-Second: In level 2-3 sry dont remember i lost maybe 10 days in attempts to go to wrong direction. One night bright !! idea appeared... brave try in another direction -in this case right -.
Yes, yes. I hear Yr Q:
-Why, you, stupid, did not try it earlier?
-- Hm, hm, because there is nothing to land.(Impotrant info)... The edge of screen hides the fact that immediately after screen is located hard rock to land.
so yoga turned and jumped to invisible rock. Hurrayy!
I was so happy that this day i visited the nearest coffee with my gang of followers to enjoy after glorious run of the leader - brave.!!!
Ha ha ha
Sweet memory.
Another funny moment is appearence of nice little mouse to click on the floor key and opened the door.
...
MM3? Sry, no my style.
Planescape Torment - marked and will be played.

Dear twillight,
sorry for delayed answer (in fact i was in Lindisfarne city to clear the road to Dragon cave and solve the quest in Monastery and up my exp)
but if You mean the backdoor the part of the wall shown in attached pic
i have to disappoint You that nothing happen after my efforts - i clicked and clicked on this fire-like thing..nothin.

Strange thing- During my visit in Lindisfarne my money reached 10 golds. And suddenly one of my NPC disappeared. I thing the reason was unsufficient money to pay him.
ha ha ha
BTW Lindisfarne is the name of one of my favorite musical band - i recommend their song - Meet me at the corner. Very nice. If someone wants to hear it but not find let PM to send him/her the song.

The backdoor is at the top level of the building.
Also, if you have the unpatched game(no music at the main menu) and you go out of the keep before finishing the quest you won't be able to re-enter.
Otherwise no idea, I'm onto something else for the moment (
this
).

The NPC definitely went for insufficient money. I suspected something like that hearing about monthly fee. There is anyway only 1 single NPC in the game which worth it, for its unlimited identification (but it demands an outrageous amount to keep up).

PS: juding by that song you'd've just LUBD the communist era pop/rockbands of hungary starting with Zorán :mhh:

Zorán Sztevanovity moved to Hungary in 1948 with his parents who were on a diplomatic mission, after two years in Prague. In 1960, with his brother Dušan and their friends he founded an amateur band called Zenith, which changed its name to Metro in 1961, when they began to play in the Metró Klub, the club of the underground building company.
Metro was a very famous Hungarian rock band in the 1960s and early 1970s. When the Hungarian government cracked down on rock music that they considered subversive, Metro left the music industry. Band leader Zorán Sztevanovity has pursued an active solo career after his tenure with the band.

I finished my list of games I played from start to finish. The unfinished games are threefold at bare minimum (eg.Total Annihilation is not on the list just because the last mission, or there was a StarWars game I never knew the title of which the neighbour-kid had back in the times you could not save, took me 30-45 minutes to fly through the Death Star's tunnel, than he came back and saw I did what he considered impossible, and he was who shot down the two Death Stars not me).

Let's see if I uploaded the picture correctly...

Well, it is a little complicated to views, but in parts you can zoom in for all 402 games.
Can't do anything else, because it always exceeds attachment limit. Well, could try just giving link to somewhere else, but...

Respect,
dear twillight,
I may only dream for such big games volume?!
BTW, Yr list is very readable.
How do You do it?
...
1-3 forgotten games are not important, so do not cry.
May i very politely make a statement concerning Your games:
1. No Lands of Lore 1&2 ?
2. No Prince of Persia 2 ?
3. No Eye of the beholder 1&2&3 ?
4. No Arena, Daggerfall and others (I dont like Skyrim). ?
5. No Dungeon Master 1&2 ?
6. No one Wizardry ?
7. No Betrayal at Krondor, ah, sorry, i know Yr arguments against this game..
:smile2:
But You are young boy and have time
to passed my recommendations..
May i ask You for permission to copy this list for my private use.
For future guid.
I know very well the rights You have
and will never use this info for non legal purposes.

@Caro Capo and SS and Japo
Are You able to make similar listing?

I copy-pasted the excel/open office chart to paintbrush.
But man, I was long not called a "young".

Anyway, ye, no reason why not take the list. Don't even see any possible illegal use of it.

1) No Lands of Lore. Might and Magic 6 was enough for me from the genre with occasional others, and when it came out and was really popular, I didn't even had a PC I think, only C64. I think when it came out we still only had the first Civilisation around here as the most awesome thing imaginable. And Prince of Persia 1 had TEH graphic.

2) I tried Prince 2, but I sucked with the jumps.

3) Eye of the beholder: sry, but when it came out we killed beholders with pen&paper.

4-5) I was never into games w/o a definite goal. Sry.

6) From the Wizardry series I installed the 4th, but I again was not into drawing my own maps. And without that part it just... ended up uninstalled.

----------

Man, gaming rly did change. First we had all those joystick-stuff which were most of the time endless, and were about hyperfined timing. We even made contest who can stop quartz-watches right at the told centiseconds! Oh man, just like Hitchikers' Guide to the Galaxy says, we thought those watches were the peak of inventions!

Than they flashed us Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island and things changed. We got complex games with complex stories, and very hard bosses. You really had to strougle to say you did it, and it was a thing to beat the End Boss! And noone doubted, but awed when you told you finally did it! It was awesome!
Someone was a pro if could do that reliably, and even pass down the knowledge. Than people became fans after being able to re-do the win, and started to think up things how to make it easier, cheasier for their younger brothers who could not pay enough attention but were always around.
And those were the stars who could figure out the best possible combo (of items, NPCs etc.) for the game.

Nowdays all you have is this "competitive gaming" where the story-mode is just inconvenience, something in the way, after what you go and collect stuff and play like an 8 years girl those dressing games when games still had gaming value. Just to oneshot each other under 30 seconds, if at all they play and not just do it through a bot.
They wouldn't understand what was so good about playing the first Pac Man for 5 hours until the levels started reappear. They couldn't suffer playing Blockout for 13hours in a row w/o literally being able to stand up for toilet-time given no pause-button/function just to disengage the counter. They wouldn't comprehend going for a sidequest for the 50th rocket to have 1 more % chance to beat the final boss (or at all).
Nowdays you just pay 100$ to pose in the ingame city square in fancy clothes.

Kinda sad.

I think the phrase translates and then translates back to "tastes and slaps are different".

You know there's a curse on me. Literally noone cares whatever I do. Especially when coming to creative work.
I literally got all the CDs of mainstream artists who got "cool". They became cool two years after I got their music. Everyone dispised those discs until later.
So I stopped buying music - and look where the music-industry is today. Only Miley Cyrus has talent, and I pre-ordered her stuff before it became major success :max:

Anyway, if you didn't know you can click on the characters' health bar to see their HPs by number. I found that useful.

As the whole Mortuary is one big complex, tell us when you get out instead.
And tell what random item a random NPC gave you. For fun.

Uhm, yoga, everyone told you this game is about reading, reading, more reading, and even more reading.

A quicky ony what you missed about the flying "head" (skull, actually):

You woke up in the Mortuary, a place where all of Sigil - a world-city in the center of the Multiverse - dumps all of its dead. This is not the first time it happened, and Morte is your companion.
Stuff about your situation is tattooed on your back -a journal of sort you made for yourself just in case. It says if you didn't succeed and forgot everything, you should seek out Pharod (you don't know who Pharod is, you only have the name).
The city is Neutral alignment with very strong order-patrols to enforce everyone can attend their business (so YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO HACK YOURSELF THROUGH). And even if you could bash the armed forces, there is always The Lady of Pain.
The Lady of Pain is the Ruler of Sigil, and the Prisoner of Sigil, who fights off all dieties of the multiverse every single moment to prevent them capturing Sigil, the Cage, also the City of Doors at the same time, because Sigil has portals which lead to every single plane on the Multiverse.

If you don't catch the paradox and find it exciting in its all right, you can leave Planescape at this very moment, because than it is not for you.
Planescape - as we told you - is more of an interactive novel, not Call of Duty or Diablo!

Smiling Spectre 27-05-2015 12:54 PM

You spoiled all initial quests, twillight! Shame on you! :D

yoga, I must say that _meaning_ of this game is "found yourself". Whole game is dedicated to your true story, who are you, why are you here and how it was possible in the first time. It's the story about personal investigation, not for world saving or something.

Also, you are totally immortal, bar some god-level exclusions. So don't afraid to be killed. ;)

You can freely change classes if you have/meet the proper NPC.
Dak'kon is not one of the best NPCs (the best is actually Morte), but he can make you swap between mage and fighter.
Annah can make you switch between fighter and thief.

Conversation with your party can do even more. It can give them boosts, teach yourself abilities and gain items, and I think even some sidequests, or sidequest-options can be unlocked. Like the full text of the tattoos on your back...

TY for Yr directions.
But one good tatoo costs 1200 and i have miserable 300 only.
Plus fact that i need at least 6 tatoos or 6 x 1200 = 7200.
How many thugs i have to kill if a killing of 3 thugs gives me about 7-10?
Moreover just now (i did Player Maze quest) when tryed to leave Hive (first location with Mausoleum) some flying Gorgone attacks me and kills me. A message appeared:

TY for Yr directions.
But one good tatoo costs 1200 and i have miserable 300 only.
Plus fact that i need at least 6 tatoos or 6 x 1200 = 7200.
How many thugs i have to kill if a killing of 3 thugs gives me about 7-10?
Moreover just now (i did Player Maze quest) when tryed to leave Hive (first location with Mausoleum) some flying Gorgone attacks me and kills me. A message appeared:
..You have tested your immortability against the wrong creature and have been destroyed...
I have 35 HP and use 7 spells.
Level 4.
So i have to load again last save file.
Excuse me for my naivety and incompetence.
:smile2:

? Flying gorgone? Can you give screenshot? Because at that location no such threat should exist.
Unless of course you meet this "flying gorgone" the second time. But that'd need dedication, lol.

Tattoos are not that important at this point. But take notice that buying and selling prices depend on Charisma of the protagonist. And you are a Mage. If you can learn the spell Friends, and cast it twice in a row, your charisma will get a substantial boost.
If your charisma gets high enough, you can even buy cheaper than selling at a certain location (in the Upper District).

Until that, the most reliable income is Portal Stones. There is the Curiosity Shop (again I think in the Upper District), where you'll be able to buy a Modron Figurine, which has a special function...

Oh, don't forget to hire NPCs. Morte is a good fighter (immense AC and HP), and there's Dak'kon in the Smolderin Corpse. but even they won't be able to help you against stuff that can kill immortals.

If this is the "gorgon", and you only met her once, than do not worry, you are at a quest. If you end up dead the second time by her, now THAN you have to load back.

Yes, You are right and "this" is the Gorgone aka Lady of Pain.
Once again:
I am i Hive location after leaving the Mortuary.
I try to leave this location and....rats....this Lady appeared again and again and kill me again and again (Pls note without any battle) so i am unable to leave this place.!!!
What i did after these many killings:
1. I read and read the new found Journal - some abrakadabra..
2. I spoke with Morte and Dakkon. Result - I am Fighter again. Good/bad?
Level 4 Fighter
Str16,Int15,Wis12,Dex11,Con11,Chr13.
Exp 12666. Next level 16000.
Money 306
7 Spells - Blood bridge, Magic missile,Blur,Armor,Pacify,Identify,Chromatic orb
True Neutral
AC 1
I have some medical stuff - +3HP, +9HP, +18 HP

Smiling Spectre 04-06-2015 11:31 AM

There is only 3 things that irritates Lady: worshiping her, calling her name and killing several Dabuses. After first time you'll be in prison location, and second time is game over. Try to redo last offensive action? :)

ROFL

Rise your exp by doing QUESTS. Planescape is not Diablo. Planescape is an RPG, not Hack&Slash.

By the way your level at the end won't exceed lvl 24, and the enemies are either level-related, or low level stuff. Or can kill immortal beings XD

Btw, the journal, and practically any person in the game could tell you you better not mess with dabuses :mhh: Or kill people at random, because even thugs are allowed to live. Plane of Neutrality.

yoga 04-06-2015 04:04 PM

Your experience helped me phrase my opinion.

Planescape is the perfect RPG in the sense of story-driven, free to choose your action gameplay.
Unfortunately it has its flows which limits its popularity and replayability.

While you can do freely whatever you want without the program punishing you (too hard), the actions are still limited.
And you need to do a lot of reading, while action is scarce, and easy. Well, at least it is not as mercyless as all over in Icewind Dale or Baldur's Gate 1 for the first 5 clvls.

More fault is, some really heavy stuff are alignment-related. This wouldn't be that bad, IF you'd know what effect your alignment and how. As practically everything you say does effect your alignment, some hints would be good, but to be honest you'll have no real grasp of it without the walkthrough (which you should avoid for the first playthrough).
Some events are very hard to trigger, the thief class for the player is almost never useful (except when you train Annah), money is scarce, and that evil grimoire costs an arm and a leg to use.

What makes it worthy to all the heil is the graphic, the tons of originality, bloody many hidden things, and the nagging question:
WHAT CAN CHANGE THE NATURE OF A MAN?

-----------

PS: you can either hack yourself out from the zombies (not suggested), or do some quick errands for them. Speak with their leader(s).

But even with these limits i like it.
Excuse me.
BaK and Dungeon master 1&2 are not so nice.

last news from battle ground

Now we are 4.
Annah is with us.
Caro Capo,
ciao.
Very politely:
Please, can You remember when You failed in quest for Bronze sphere?
Maybe You did not find the key to left The Dead Nations?
Very easy solution:
Kill Hargrimm.
It has the key.
Remember: You have to leave imm. this area because all monsters around became hostile.
So run down to door.
No fight, just run and open the door.

Capo 08-06-2015 04:18 PM

I have not opened the sphere, thats all, maybe i didnt wanted to open it lol

Great!
You are Game Titan.
Respect.
:OK:
Act 4 - Hard battle with about 20 Thugs Veterans.

yoga 19-06-2015 05:01 PM

maze

More hard,
hard battles in Modron maze=64 rooms,
every with 1-3 Hard Constructs.
I passed 16 rooms only.
The enemies attacked very fast with 20-25 HP hits (my members are 40-45 HP)
simply no time to answer them. Places are very unhandy to move.
We are 6:
Nameless, Morte, Dakkon, Annah, Grace, Ignus.
Formation=triangle.
Who find and enter Wizard den?
Who find Modron?
Nice RPG.
Maybe the best one.
As SS notes, sadly no more such nice game.

Smiling Spectre 29-06-2015 05:37 AM

Hmm, sounds about right... but what levels? Maybe, you come too early? Because I hadn't _much_ problems here. Last ten rooms made me sweat, but wasn't impossible. But, as I vaguely remember, I had upper level spells at that time...

twillight 29-06-2015 06:56 AM

I hope yoga set autopause after casting magic...
And teaches Dak'kon spells from the Stone Circle he carries around.

"I once went to the Negative Energy Planes, where nothing can exist, and anything will be destroyed. Nothing can stop nothing. So I kept nothing in my hand."

Aside the above hint I let you know you don't have to fight the shadows, just run around touching all the nitbits.

Capo, stop mini-modding.

Also, I'm certain yoga has perfectly acceptable reason to mount his CDs. Heck, if I'd ever learnt how to use Demon Tools, I'd mount all my games myself and never bother inserting and risking damage my CD/DVDs at all.

Yoga is a longtime member, I think he is perfectly understanding Abandonia's policy.

When I only had the CD-version, I copied all CDs and "mounted" them this way too (still needs CD2 and the expansion-disc). The DVD-version does this automatically, but not everyone has them from a1$ bin :D

Im not that naive, pirating software in 2015 is stupid since you can buy a game at the cost of a beer, especially oldgames. Anyway do what you want, but dont talk about it here.
