:help:

Great site but it takes forever to download something...if the line doesn't break. Well...what can I say? Shitty connection. It would be much easier if it were possible to use download accelerator or something unfortunetely the browser just starts the download and I don't have a chance to select the D.A.

So,my question is....is it possible to use D.A to download the files from this site?

FreeFreddy 20-02-2005 05:27 PM

No, download accelerators are disabled on this site because of the bandwidth matters. You'll have to download normally, no way for accelerators. ;)

wormpaul 20-02-2005 05:50 PM

And 99% of the time it works perfect :ok:

Eagle of Fire 20-02-2005 05:57 PM

I never got a problem downloading games from this site. If it "breaks" like you say it's very more likely to be from your end, not ours.

wormpaul 20-02-2005 06:01 PM

Only games above 100 mb can become a problem for the site :not_ok:

The Niles 20-02-2005 07:40 PM

Yeah, most games are small enough for it not to matter if it breaks down once in a while. Your the first person to ever complain about a bad connection at any rate. Might be a problem with your ISP.

Ajax 21-02-2005 01:58 AM

Wow, that's interesting that you're having problems with the download speed. That must be from your end. That's one of the things that impressed me so much about this site, is the speed of download. Most the time I'm getting at least 150-200 per second. Bad for you I guess... ;)

Calamity 21-02-2005 02:04 AM

I'm on dialup and I have to say that I've probably gotten the best transfer speeds from here than any other place. You'll definately want to check up with your ISP.

Ferna182 21-02-2005 02:38 AM

for me, it gorks great.... i have a 256k adsl connection and my download rate is allways 32 - 34 kbps (the maxium for my connection) so for me... it's great..

FreeFreddy 21-02-2005 05:23 AM

Just the one time when I downloaded Legend of Kyrandia recently, then it reached only around 20-30 kb/s which is not full for DSL (1024 / 128). But maybe only rare case...

Millosh_024 21-02-2005 10:11 AM

WOW! Didn't expect this many replies so fast. :w00t:

No...umm....I didn't say that the site is the problem. It's defenetely me. My connection sux big time. It's dial-up and it get's like 40-50Kbps MAX. But in reality it's much less especially with downloads. I wondered about the accelerator because it saves the stuff. Not so much about the speed. Oh well....will try to download something now...less than 10mb. Will take me about half an hour.

:wall: It's downloading it at 2.5kbps!

And now it has stoped completely. It's just standing at 26% (1.79mb) and not moving for five minutes now. And any other download I start while this one is blocked is going just fine and also the sites open up just fine. So,the kbs are still comming but the download has just blocked. I guess I just can't download anything from here. Too bad for me. And I even saw that there is Blood omen on this site....I want it but it's like 100mb...I don't even dare think about it.

I aborted this download now. It's hopeless.

Well...I downloaded Lost Vikings...but that's about 1mb.

Can ANYONE HELP ME?!

The Fifth Horseman 21-02-2005 12:27 PM

Might also be your software and hardware. Do you have enough HDD space for the download's temporary files? Try cancelling the DL and restarting it. Then leave the computer overnight.

Millosh_024 21-02-2005 12:35 PM

Yeah. I have more than enough HD space. As for the sw I'm using XP / internet explorer. My modem is 56k...

Leave it overnight? And when the download blocks or the line breaks...? It all goes down the drain.

Maybe, but that's still your best chance. From a fresh Windows reboot, launch the download and leave it for some time. Don't use the computer for any other tasks during the d/l, as this is AFAIK the main reason for download breaks.

wormpaul 21-02-2005 03:25 PM

Maybe get a better connection???

Kosta 21-02-2005 04:02 PM

You can actually use a download accelerator, but you need to configure it to catch .zip files in your browser!

Omuletzu 21-02-2005 05:11 PM

You mean fiddling with the integration settings?

SO i can use programs like: Net Transport??

Kosta 21-02-2005 06:04 PM

Yes, you just need it to configure it so that it grabs *.zip files before IE / Mozilla do. Probably somewhere in browser integration, and then you usually have a list of extensions that should ALWAYS be downloaded with a manager.

wormpaul 21-02-2005 07:33 PM

Alright...

Thank you very much Kosta

Now,why didn't I think of that!? <_<

Will try what Kosta suggested. Would be lovely if it works.

Then again...I don't know why it is impossible to just type in the url location of the file in the manager and do it....if it is in fact, like Kosta says, possible to use it.

Ok...ummm....it doesn't work. The accelerator is already set to get those files straight away but the thing is that this site doesn't SHOW those files....that is; it isn't set like...for example... www.abandonia.com/games/adventure/ddt.zip which the download accelerator or whichever would understand and be able to catch.

Can't you guys just say where the file is so that those who want to use acclerators can type in the address and get it over with? At least a download mirror or something.

BWA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

No.

That would enable direct-linking, and leeching.

Millosh_024 22-02-2005 09:39 AM

Well...it was worth a try. :D Not that I'd abuse that....but it would certainly help the download for those with slow trasfer rates....then again...I do understand why the paranoid view on the whole issue so.....what you are saying is that there is NO WAY of using the accelerator....and that means...still no solution to my problem..

Data 22-02-2005 10:40 AM

accelators well that is tricky.
download resumers should work

Millosh_024 22-02-2005 12:44 PM

I found a way to use the accelerator. :Brain:

Tell us all plz :bleh:

Millosh_024 23-02-2005 08:45 AM

Simple. I was able to use GETRIGHT which gets integrated into the internet explorer upon it's intalation so it doesn't allow the internet explorer to do the download but it takes over...and it shows the full name and location of the file which I then just typed into the Download accelerator (because GETRIGHT just has a "resume" option. No acceleratio) and that's all there is to it. I'm downloading BLOOD OMEN right now...it's 90mb and it's gonna take me some 5-6 hours to do so even with this but without it it would just be impossible so...no other way to do it really but this way...AND I can resume it at any time so...I can do it over the course of a few days. Now,I talked to Kosta and Tom and they said that this is ok...AS LONG AS it is used ONLY for downloads. Be fair and do not abuse the direct link to the game's location.
