A bright doom-like game set in a town or city?

Hello! While browsing around I noticed a new game up on the front page (emerald hunt), and with that old memory resurfacing I find myself searching for something I played years ago. More specifically I played it likely around 2000.

I don't remember a whole lot about the game because during that time I was quite young, but I do still have some details in mind. I remember playing it on likely a windows 98 computer on a blue disc that announced that it contained (I believe?) 25 games on it. The variety of games on it ranged from the original Grand Theft Auto to Emerald Hunt. I can not remember if all the games on there were demos, but I do specifically remember that this game was.

I remember the game being pretty bright, not overly colorful, but definitely not dark. I remember it looking like it may have run off of the doom engine, and one of the weapons you could obtain was a scythe. You went around killing monsters (though I don't remember if the corpses stayed) in a city like area with brick walls and your objective was to reach the end of the level.

I'm sorry if this seems rather vague, but this and one other game having been plaguing my memory, and I'd love to find them, but I was still quite young when I played them so my memories are very spotty and foggy at best.

Unfortunately not. I do quite enjoy both those games, but this is not either one of those two.

Strife?

No, though I should eventually try my hand at Strife. It looks interesting.

How about Last Rites?

Clive Baker's Undying has a Scythe and was launched in 2001.

RoyBlue 16-05-2015 10:43 PM

Neither of those games either.

zirkoni 17-05-2015 07:04 AM

Witchaven?

RoyBlue 17-05-2015 01:18 PM

Nope. On a side note witch haven looks interesting. I should check that out some time.

Don't know other game with scythe apart from Undying. Just in case: check Blood and Dracula.

Perhaps try to give more info. If there is scythe as a weapon, it is probably horror game, so we can exclude sfi-fi shooters, right?

Aye, you can exclude sci-fi. I really wish I could give you more information, but unfortunately I don't remember too much about it. At this point I could only really describe the compilation disc it came on.

RoyBlue 17-05-2015 07:40 PM

Oh, also both those games are not it either. I actually ran into those games while looking for it myself and I can say it is neither of them.

Bugamn 17-05-2015 11:46 PM

How about Powerslave?

RoyBlue 17-05-2015 11:57 PM

Nope. Though this is another game to go on the list of things to try. I think that even if I don't find the game I'm looking for I'll have quite the list of other games to try.

marko river 18-05-2015 04:18 PM

Well, ok then, so it is horror FPS similar to Blood, Witchaven and Undying... or somewhere in between :)

If it is "shooter", not RPG (with improving stats and everything) then what were you shooting with? Modern pistols and guns or with arrows and wizards staff and similar spell casting?

Also check: Montezumas Return, Amulets and Armor, 7 paladins or something, Shadow Warrior...

edit:
Also, if you there is hope that game is on mobygames, check this filtered search and narrow it done by year and system or change filters entirely... you'll find more games to add to your list at least

oh yeeah, also check KISS game

I still don't get it: it's bright->lots of light
or bright->colorful
As I've seen lots of mods, my mind can't help on it. Don't you remember any other thing about it? It could be a standalone mod for Doom even...
I'd guess it could be Chex Quest, even that I don't remember a scythe... :mhh:

1.When I say bright what I mean is probably both in this case. I remember bright reds, blues, and greens, as well as that I remember it (at least in the beginning because this was a demo) taking place outside with a rather cheery looking sky.

2.It might possibly have been a mod, yes. That thought struck me some time after creating this threading and spending several hours looking for the game, though I can for certain say it's not Chex Quest.
