P.S. You will be given a DIRECT link in the V.I.P. section so feel free to use download accelerators or managers!

:D The V.I.P. Section was created an hour ago (well at least announced), right after I found this website... hehe, crazy ey?

Can't wait to be able to use it, I want to see what kind of stuff there is. Won't be able to upload any games, since I search for them myself, but I'll try to be an active member.

I hope we will now start enforcing the no spam rule a little more vigorously. People who spam their way to eighty posts should not get the benefits of the VIP section.

I'm not so sure if it's a good thing to encourage people to spam (getting 80 posts), just look at the forum of oldgames.nu, there's a lot of spam there just because people want to have credits to download.

Just my 2 cents.

Getting 80 post is not an automatic pass. If we feel that it was achieved through spamming, then the person will NOT get access :wink:

Yes, I have given it some thought. Don't worry, deliberate spamming will be detected and those members will not gain access. Actually I have removed the "80 posts" rule, and I will just set the size of this section according to my personal preference. This means people that consistently and actively participate in the forums, and also help out with the creation of the site. I will try to keep the "VIP" section <30 people at all times.

I would advice to make that part of the forum invisisble to regular users.
private[hidden] would be the option for that in phpbb
this will "remove" the anxiatie about it a bit. (It's bit frustrating i think to see but not be able to reach it.)

Hm, yes, but how will YOU access it if it is hidden? :) Or will it be visible to users that have access to it?

yes the usergroup with acces will just see it.
only people who aren't a member will not see it.

Hmm, personally I'd remove this (and any other) post about VIP and never mention it on the normal forums again. This way any new people don't know and so won't know to spam ;) Also could be a neat surprise when someone earns it without knowing beforehand.

The rules for getting a V.I.P. pass have changed. Forget the 80 post count.


These are the new rules:

You will have to be involved in making abandonia a better place, either by sharing some of your games with us or by helping out in the forums. Kosta runs this V.I.P. Section like a Dictator and if he feel that you deserve a pass, then you will get one.

The other rule is also simple:
The total number of V.I.P.'s shall (preferably) not exceede a total of 25% of the members. (This section is only for the elite!)


If you get a V.I.P. pass you will be notified by a mail.


So you see... spamming will NOT help you... :wink:

Here is some things that WILL work, however.

- Supply us with a great DOS game complete with review, screenshots and game archive.

- Browse through the Request forum, and supply links and help out with games that are requested.

- Help people with problems they are having with their games.

- Bribe us :P

- Supply game manuals, walkthroughs, music, hints, secrets and so on for games that are currently on the site.

Just a little note.. i AM an administrator AND a moderator... So basicly Me and Kosta has the same "rank".. and i would love to have hump also as admin/mod... (it was actualy me who set him as mod ;)

Yes, you can upload just the archives... but that means more work for us. That is why it is a long time between each new update. We have to take screenshots, play the game, write the review, optimize and resize the screenshots, get a manual, look for a walkthrough, see if the music can be played (if not find out why & if it can be fixed), and so on....


Now you know how much work goes into a single upload. So if you would instead help us with this, we would be very happy. This would also speed up the time between updates. :wink:


But, of course, you decide how much work you would like to do yourself.

Nowaday I downloaded some stuff from this site, and I visit it frequently.
Today i read about the VIP section, I'm interested, but I have a problem about it.
I'm italian and my english is not excellent, so I can have problem to partecipate the discussion, so how can I do something useful for becoming a VIP member?

I could give you some stuff for the site, I have many games, but I don't know what you need.
Have you got a wanted list?

I've an idea. You could have list of jobs that need to be done, games that need to be found etc. on the main site that you can offer VIP membership to anyone who completes them.

On the serious side i think it's a good idea, but remember that the number of VIP section members must not topple 25% of the total number of normal abandonia members

There are over 150 members of this forum, so 25% is still a lot of people.

I could upload and supply you with a review of Hidden Agenda game, it's rather small when ziped (and I did ziped it) like 0,5 MB or so, compatible with dosbox, compatible with dos, UNcompatible with XP.

I just have a quick question? I'm really interested in becoming a V.I.P. member, but I was curious as to if we needed to inform people that we were interested? Well if we do I guess I just did, :wink: . Either way, aside from being interested in the V.I.P. section, I was just curious if there is anything else I can do to help this site outside of uploading games. Eventually I'll be able to upload games, but that wont be till probably september when I go to college and have a cable modem, :D . But outside of that, what else can I do? I've tried to post as many aid posts as I can, if you guys want me to write reviews for the games, I'd love to do that!! Just give me some suggestions!

I also had PDF manuals for some of the games I uploaded so far. But they're usually little too big for the site so there were plain text manuals used instead... <_<

How do I become a VIP? Have done some reviews.

Panzer General and Bloodnet if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, those were great reviews, the problem is, they were scattered over a big time period. However, I'll consider giving you a 1 month trial VIP membership, and if you participate in the forums, and supply more reviews over time, you may as well keep it for over a month ;)

Nope, you're right, there're enough sites with emulators and ROMS already and our is about old, abandoned games, mostly Dos games.

If you can write reviews and supply screenshots for some of the games you have that would be useful, Abandonia's problem is not a shortage of games, it's a shortage of reviews.

I've never missed a VIP package (and if that's not a boast then I don't know what is). I only did the links after I got kicked out, I'd already been in for most of the time before, just from forum helping.

Also, I didn't get one of the official kicks up the arse from Kosta so I hope I'm there to stay (*tempts fate and admins*)
