Quarantine
Feel free to comment and discuss this game here. Also, if you have any useful tips or tricks don't hesitate to share them with the others! Thanks!
Review and Download (if available) |
Heh, nice story in the review... Could just fit for a book if contunied :D
Btw. the review I used before was from a online GameByte magazine from around 1994-95, so it's probably not even copyrighted anymore (at least I guess so). |
But still you were trying to take his glory and make it your own...
Go and sit in the corner! Nah... Just don't do it again  |
but if somebody dont like making reviews....
|
Then they don't do it.
Makes more work for us, so such a person would have to wait longer for a VIP pass  |
hokay...but what if that person would supply 25 SUper Duper Uber good games, but dont make reviews?
|
I have a really dumb question.
When you reach a destination, how do you get the passenger to get off? They just won't move, and won't pay. |
Quote:
Note that this still means everyone still will have to ask for permission BEFORE putting up any games! @ Hellblade I believe you must force them out by pressing the E key. |
That's right, the E key, the same key with bombs delivery missions too. But if you deliver the pasengers in time, they pay happily and get out for themselves. No need for that good animated violence.
|
I can get through the copy protection and I cannot find its answer in the manual
|
the game should be cracked.
You should be able to write whatever you want, or simply press enter... The game should work. |
This game runs SLOW on my new PC
Maybe I should revert back to 0.60 before trying again? |
Too slow in DosBox?? You can increase the emulation speed with CTRL+F12, you know?
|
Qurantine needs a fast computer to run well in Dosbox. It runs just about perfectly on my computer at 17000 (!) cycles. But my computer is a 2.8GHz Pentium 4, and it runs really really badly on my Athlon 1500 computer REGARDLESS of CPU cycle setting.
|
Quote:
That is why I would recommend you to run the game in Win XP (If you have it). |
I have WinXP and it runs too fast, I think that unless you have a very slow PC your best option is to run it in DOSBox with a very high frame cycle rate.
|
Quote:
Also on my PC the graphics are messed up, when I start the game in Windows XP or 98, don't know if that's only on my PC like that... |
a few Q goodies
Ok, when i finally namage to get orgainsed, i have the original Quarrantine CD and box.
Anybody interested in getting the soundtrack as mp3's? I might also be able to scan in the copy-protect password list, for old times sake. |
A soundtrack might be cool if its any good! :)
Is it? |
Yeah, would be cool to hear the original soundtrack of the game, I always wondered how it might be sounding...
|
got the game to work "reasonable"
But after a few seconds it slows down to an amazing 1 FPS at both video and sounds o.o |
Perhaps you selected wrong sound-card? Select either Soundblaster Pro or Soundblaster, one of these should work and other not, I just don't remember which.
|
i have a 267Mhz CPU. The game runs fine, and i can get past the copy protection, but about 30-45 seconds into the game it just closes. any suggestions??
|
You play it in Windows XP and DosBox there, right?
I would suggest that you use Windows 95 or 98 on such slow PC instead and play the game in Ms-Dos then. |
No, actually im on win2kpro, just running it straight through ms-dos.(my machine is slow enuf for that :) )
|
yay i have been looking all over for this game i love it when i played it a frend of mine a loong time ago
|
Heh, to be honest, I started playing the shareware version of it in 1995 and only found the full version when I joined the site. :D
And then added it too, knowing it's a good game. ;) |
Whoah, true classic!
Hardly linear progress at the start of the game makes it really difficult for beginners. You just have to try everything and explore everything. Later, game goes absolutely out of control - it's hardly possible to manage everything. And frequent attacks won't make it any easier. However, ending is deep and pretty cool for a futuristic space sci-fi game, at the moment where all space sci-fi stories are really drained and fantasy is almost equal to total stupidity in these. A bit realistic "what if-" story is always good. tip: game music is in MOD format, it can be opened and even edited/remixed in almost any tracker. This space battle track is definetly worth it :D tip 2: It may help - XP+DosBox combo users - if you try turning all the sound & music off. From setup program, of course ;) tip 3: There's mineral cheat/crack supplied with the game. However, it won't block money, which won't help you at the beginning of the game but later where technology needs great deal of minerals. I'd prefer to use GameWiz32 or DOS's Game Wizard 32 instead, so all variables could be locked... like number of battleships you have :D But then again, It's a great loss. It's better to have some old dusty 486 somewhere to play all these great oldschool games, starting with XCOM and ending with Reunion. Nowadays, at the age of GigaHertzes, you may get one for free, or even get paid to take the "rubbish" away. An outstanding game. |
Quarantine is a pretty good FPS with a twist. The game is a little unique in that it has nonlinear aspects. You play out the life of one Drake Edgewater, picking up passengers in your taxi to gain money. In between taxi jobs, you can roam about throughout the city, which creates a sense of being in a living world. It's kinda like one of the reasons why many people like the Grand Theft Auto series (staring with #3).
|
If you'd be any where near, I'd give you a hug.
I think there is no game I enjoyed anywhere as much as quarantine. I have three copies of it, but I lost all three code cards. I stopped gaming in the last millenium. They just don't make games like that anymore. This forum needs a crying with bliss smiley |
Hi There!
I have a similar problem to: BP30Foe Posted on Sep 7 2004, 04:41 AM i have a 267Mhz CPU. The game runs fine, and i can get past the copy protection, but about 30-45 seconds into the game it just closes. any suggestions?? FreeFreddy Posted on Jul 31 2004, 08:13 AM Perhaps you selected wrong sound-card? Select either Soundblaster Pro or Soundblaster, one of these should work and other not, I just don't remember which. My system is a P2 300MHz, 160MB RAM with Windows XP. I tried changing sound cards and increasing EMS to 8192 but this doesnt solve the problem. Any ideas? |
Sure, you should play the game in DosBox. Though, as you say your PC is P2 with 300 MHZ, you can forget that. In that case you should play the game either in true Ms-Dos (which you can forget under Windows XP completely) or buy a new fast PC, as DosBox needs at least a Pentium 3 with 1000 MHZ to run games in playable speed. ;)
You can get it off this main site, here's the link: http://www.abandonia.com/main.php?nav=programs Btw., it seems my answer in the quote was much earlier before his question... LOL |
Yeah...i realised that after i had already cut n paste it. Thanks for the feedback though, it was much appreciated!!!
|
I have some problems with running that in DOS
I get an error msg C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXE.NT |
you should be able to upgrade to a 800 Ghz chip for cheap find someone to install it and it should be easier to run.
|
Bloodline, when do you get that error message? When running the game? Or when running DOS? :D
Try to be a little more specific is what I mean...I haven't had that error, but I might be able to help if you can give a little more information. :ok: |
Hey all.First post, second attempt(my comp just shut down mysteriously). This might be off topic but I'll wander back trust me.I want to say what an awesome sight this is.I can't beleive I found Star Control 2 here.I've been looking for it for a long time.ok now back on topic...I have trouble too.The crack is fine I just hit enter and I'm in.Comp.stats:400 mhz processor/win98 se/sis sound and graphics cards, on-board.
I start up the game,so far so good. Then when you play it runs INCREDIBLY fast and the graphics get really messed up.If by dos-box you mean when windows is running in the background then thats what I'm running it with.Sorry but I'm not the best on compyataters. Thanks, heli |
I have Quarantine, and i cant even get the bugger started. I use VDMS, and i get some weird error message. This is the message

Simply play it in DosBox, and it should run fine. ;)

Hmmmmm... when trying to start the game in Windows XP professional, nothing happens. When trying to run it in DOSbos, there is just a window that produces messages "illegal write to xxxxxx" at an insane speed. (xxxxx is just a placeholder in this post, it's some combination of numbers and letters, but I can't read it as the messages fly by so fast...)
Can anybody help me? |
I would LOVE to have the soundtrack... Some of the songs still go through my head periodically and I haven't heard it since at least 97!

Okies, I'm computer illiterate but I'll try this anyway at the expense of sounding like a dork.
I'm past the copy protection and starting screen. Once I click to start the game, my computer screen goes black and nothing happens, no error messages or anything. Any advice? |
Quote:
First, thanks for the answer. But I am not sure for what quest you are talking about. :wall: Can you give me a example? Or explain me how can I find out what is my quest? Or just tell me what to do to pass the first level. THANKS VERY MUCH |
Take the passengers that you'll meet underway. After you completed some usual quests, a passenger appears automatically on your way that gives you a special quest (bomb down a sertain building, shot down some cars or similar), and after you completed it, you'll be given the password that you need. If you don't manage to finish the special quest, you can get a special one again after another load of simple quests.

:help: i've wanted this game since i've played Outlander on Sega Genesis and now that i have it i can't get past the damn Copy Protection Screen ... i've read the manual more than i should and i still can't find this damn "Flesh Ratio" stuff, PLEASE HELP!!!
|
Thatnk you so much for posting this. I have the box, the manual, the discs... but I don't have the darn CP table. I looked everywhere for it. This took care of that problem. I am running under Gentoo with Dosbox at 1700 cycles on an Athlon 3200+ and it is working great.

First of all, this game, along with calvin and hobbes and smashing pumpkins, wrote my childhood. I havn't played it since 94 or 95 or something, immense cheers. You have no idea.
I'm running a p4 2.6 with win2kpro and it runs so fast you'd have to be on amphetamines to play it. Is there anyway of limiting the framerate in doswindow or does playing it in dos fix it? if so how do you get into dos with win2kpro? I'm a bit of a dos no0b and can't find a way. I too have the 30 second dropout problem where it just quits but i hope the framerate problem once solved will fix this. The music! is there anyway of getting the songs? someone said they were in the file as .mods but i couldn't find them. I'm dying to play this game again, please be bothered! Loved the quad barrelled shottie in lvl 2, and the banshee...... registered |

:help: It worked quite well so far... DosBox 0.63 instead of VDMSound, CPU cycles to 12000 or so, BUT when I try to look at the map or accept a passenger it crashes, and the DosBox window shows "Illegal read from 100000", counting upwards infinitely. |
a dos box is the command prompt right? that's what it goes turbo in, my friend says you can't get a frame rate limiter, can you guys verify?
|
or when you say dos box do you mean and old comp, if ya do i'll sorely regret giving my 9 year old rig to my neighbour for xmas.

I had to use wine to run the installer but once I did it was extracted and did work in dosbox. I zipped up the uncompressed files and put it on my server. Someone is welcome to grab it and submit it.
Quarantine 2 |
 I,m having some problems with the game running with extreme high-speed. Dosbox doesnt seem to be ble to properly reduce thiis and i was wondering if any other have encountered this problem?
|
Maybe you have a Pentium 8 with 14500Mhz and set the CPU cycles of DosBox to 58000? Then I could understand that the game runs too fast... :bleh:
Seriously, just set the CPU cycles to around 7000-8000 and the game should run at normal, very playable speed then. ;) |

It would be great if you can give us the soundtrack. I cant forget it. It was on of the coolest grunge music in the 90s.

I want to play Quarantine again!!... thanks in advance And the soundtrack would be nice.... as this is my first post, REALLY nice site... found many games that ive played in the past and even some that i hadnt played that I liked!...thanks a lot, really.... DarkCoiote edit : I ve win98 instaled, soo i play in "pure" dos mode... |
I have the soundtrack. I own the origional cd.

I am having difficulty with Quarantine. . .
After downloading and unzipping it, if I open the 'SETUP' file, i get the following error message: "c:. . ."(directory stuff)". . .\SETUP.PIF Invalid program file name, please chick your pif file." Well, I downloaded Dosbox and tried to run it through there, and attempt to run the 'DOS4GW' file, i get the following text: DOS-4G2 Protected Mode Run-time Version 1.97 Copyright © Rational Systems, Inc. 1990-1994 DOS/4GW fatal error(1004): sytax is DOS4G2 <executable:xxx> The long and short of it is, I can't get it to work! I have Windows XP 2004. Any suggestions? I've heard i need to replace the DOS4GW file somehow. . . Is there a simpler solution? |
Are you sure you're running the SETUP.EXE (window icon) and not a SETUP shortcut (MS-DOS icon)? Run the former.
|
Hehe, when i had winxp i can play it... now i've a real 486 and i can play it on true Ms-Dos I just have recovered my chilhood... thi is one of the VERY best games i hav never played if you calculate requerimnts for dosbox, calculate +or- 50mhz and 16RAM the sound should not be a problem...
|
OMG!! I have been looking for this game for years! I got this game for my birthday at least 10 years ago, and beat it like 10-15 times. A little difficult at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's hard to continue with real life. Well anyway that is my useless reambling for the day. BTW Great site! Thanks for helping us old school gamers find the classics! :ok:
|
when i dl it and extarct it how do i PLAY it?
|
I've read a lot of posts from people who ask for the CD music of Quarantine. I've ripped the CD music and put the MP3 files online for download at clubf.ath.cx/quarantine, so get 'em while they're up! By the way, I don't have unlimited bandwidth, so I would appreciate it if someone would host a mirror.
Have fun! |
Thanks pal, that's nice of you :)
|
ok i hit setup window thin and it asks me about 1 something with sound card or 2 something with controller or X for exit installation
when i hit X it says installation complete.... |
That's right :)
|
but after that it just exits and i dont know what to do to start playing.......
|
You must run q.exe to start the game.
|
:wall: Can't get to the last exit in the last city (wharf)
Any advice? |

Why is it that when I try and download these older games that after I unzip the folders and try and play everything is in fast forward, and then it automatically exits back to windows? I remember playing this many years ago and really enjoyed it. This is frustrating. Any help?[size=7][color=blue]
|
Are you using DosBox?
I think not. |
Hi, Can someone post the soundtrack to this again? Im happy to put up a mirror.... I bought the origiinal game way back then, loved the soundtrack!

Ah... I had trouble with the exit from the last level to the exit of the game to, years back when the game could still be played on my old pc. to reach the docking bay to the exit of the level, you had to use a Nitro with N and jump with 'z' over a little wall and end up, flying over the stream which went through the Wharf and landing on a small pier. the Password was a bit different than most people sayed it was: Kemo sity a nice place to visit Damn, I love that game! |
Is there any way to increase the speed other then ctrl+f12 and ctrl+f8 in dosbox?? I can run any other game smoothly ,but Quarantine plays at a slow crawl no matter how many cycles there are.

I am now playing at level 4 the whaft. I had a quest telling me to bomb the water tanks. However when I almost reach the destination using wayfinder, I am only reach 0.20 km, so I just eject the bomb.
It did not explode at all and I had failed the quest. Anyone reach this stage or is there any ideas or tricks to bomb the water tanks ?? |
Just managed to knock myself and get a close distance of 0.14km and bomb the stupid water tanks.
Yeah, had completed the game and enjoy the ending. Here are the codes for the levels. 1. Omnicorp is all knowing 2. Keep the opressor opressing 3. The meek shall inherit zilch 4.Have you had your hydergine today 5.Kemo city a nice place to visit NOte : there is no captial letter so dun worry :brain: |
Quarantine is a very good game, even though it was released 10+ yrs ago, I still cannot find another game can replace it or just like it (GTA is quite similar to it but in GTA, you do not own your own car to upgrade it, and you need to get out of the car frequently and do something just like other first person shooting games do)
But why such a good game do not have its next generation? I think the idea of Quarantine is very unqiue and interesting, I wonder if any game publisher will consider to bring the new Quarantine to us. |

hi there guys, just a couple of questions about quarantine (one of best games i ever played back then)
What engine is quarantine using? i thinks it's some version of doom engine? is there any way of creating/editing levels (the kemo city)? is there any way to at least convert quarantine levels to some other format (eg. quake bsp)? P.S. i tried some doom1/2 level editors, they don't work :-( thanks in advance |

I never realized that there was a part 2 of Quarantine.
But this most certainly is a very unique and atmospheric game (and needs to be redone if you ask me). The post-apocalyptic (Escape from L.A.) setting is just great. I got as far as level 4 or 5 in which most of the neighbourhood was on fire. I remember going underground after each level, and killing mobs, and a drive-thru cinema in level 1. Very good stuff, this. ________ vaporizer questions |
Hi,
I dont know a lot about all this stuff, I just remembered a very old game called quarantine, I googled it and found it on this site, but when I try to to run it my computer says its not a MS-DOS or microsoft windows application so I cant run it, its probably a silly question but can anyone help? thnx in advance |
Try using DOSBox, VDMSound or Virtual PC 2004.
|
Still looking for the Soundtrack of the game, but couldn't find it yet... <_<
If anyone has it, and can upload it (preferable rapidshare) in good quality (192-320khz), a reward will be given: a 30 days rapidshare premium account. Just put the link here, so anyone can download it, and leave and email address so i can send the account info. Thanks in advance... Skyhook |

No email addresses in the forum. Sorry, but reported
|
whyd did you even care if your admin then im srry but if not why did you care?
|
The No Address policy is really for your own good. There's a lot of snooping around and you don't want your address to be caught by some spammers clogging your email. It's also for AB's good, the fewer addresses, the less "valuable" it becomes as a target for automatic snooping.
Why do I care? I care about AB, and so I care about having a tidy forum. |
does anyone offer help here for dog ste up for quarantine?
|
Mind rephrasing your question, please?
At the moment, it seems you're asking if someone will help you in quarantining a dog steak. |
Can somebody post copy protection answer?
I would really be thankfull |
I already had this game downloaded from somewhere else years ago.
I have various questions regarding this great game: a)This 6MB download offered here, is it the latest patched version?? The not-patched version had a bug where it was impossible to kill the Flying Boy boss... If so, where can I get a patch for it?? b)also, this version has no in-game music??? c)can I get an ISO of the CD version of the game? d) could someone post the list of passwords to enter and play the game (copyprotection thing) thanks |
for the b, did you select proper music device and you are runnin in dosbox?
for the c, we dont have one, niether in iso cellar so you d have to google it somehow and for the copy protection, i dont know how about you but i can just type any 3 numbers of my choise (did 111 for the last time) |
quarantine soundtrack
i think i'm not the only one on this site who loved not only the game quarantine but also its soundtrack.
i also think i am not the only person who once owned the full version but whose cd is so f***ed up after years that it won't play the cd tracks on any cd player or pc-cd-rom-drive. finally found a (torrent-)download link of this awesome game soundtrack: [REMOVED] direct torrent link: [REMOVED] still online on feb. 27th 2008 hope i could help a few people with this |

|
sorry
i apologize for my mindless post, guess i was just too over-excited after finding the soundtrack...
and when i think about it, people will eventually find it themselves if they try hard enough... but i sure hope nobody downloads it unless he owns a legal copy himself -- this would be simply wrong and unfair to those bands on the nearly 15 years old quarantine cd that has not been available to buy for the last 10 years or so (as far as i know)... and to the game developers of course from whom i haven't seen a new game in the past 10 years or so.. |
How do you use the repair/weapon places? I can't figure out the controls aside from the arrow keys and the map.
|
I think you press SPACE for confirming a choice, or was it Enter? Arrow keys move around, in any case, once you're inside. To get into a repair / weapon place, drive right into it if the gate is open, you'll automatically enter the selection menu. To exit, guess what - press Esc.
|
I'm in zone 2 and dont know what to do with fish delivery to the lake
well... I got the destination and just pressed E key.
seems I did wrong. nothing happens, paid no money at all. do I have to wait there and the customer will pay? |
If you press the E you kick the customer (or a bomb if you are about to deliver one to a destination) out of your cab. I think he also dies a horrible, painful death upon being ejected out of the seat in such a violent way. Shame upon you.
So no, your customer is gone and there won't be any money, but you can always find a new one. |
Hi
at the moment i play this game for a while and have a question: what can i do to get the password for the next level IN THE GAME. I know the passwords, but i want to find them by myself Much thanks for any answer |
I think you've got to accept to deliver a certain passenger who will then tell you the password when you delive him successfully. It's a certain kind of a delivery, if you fail at it you can find another passenger of the same kind once in a while. Just drive around a bit and pick them up, you'll get the right one soon enough.

It kinda reminds me of Carmageddon, but unfortunatly it's less fun :(

Scratch this - I just saw the manual in the game archive...
Didn't spot the bit at the end of the review that said it was there. The bulk of it's the same - the controls are different. Obviously. Is it worth sticking on the FTP, minus the 3DO specific stuff. There's quite a lot of it. (alright, maybe 10 pages.) |
I can't run patched version (and from what I have read unpatched one gets you stuck with certain boss?).
It seems the problem is video card related. Normally I get flickering in Quarantine menus (but not in the 3D engine itself) in out-of-the-box version, but the patched executable copy protection screen is so garbled I can't enter answers (only one number is displayed out of two). Tried all dosbox vid card emulation configs, even tinkered with DOS4GW. My card is nVidia's GeForce FX 5600. |
Now I recall where I got stuck 15 years ago... that damned Hoverboy!
Not only that boss is dangerous (had to repair myself 2 times!), but also hard to hit. Hide N'Shriek missiles won't track him (hit him with 6 or 8). Whole truckload of ammo went for nothing... When I finally managed to blow him up, the timer was out! SPOILER How to kill Hoverboy in unpatched version Don't know what was fixed in the patch, but the quickest way to kill that guy was buying... that 4-barrel shotgun, Mr. Mulck. Just few salvos and he was gone! |

Thanks, core=normal removed the flickering. The patch is still bugged, though.
