Wolfenstein 3D
Feel free to comment and discuss this game here. Also, if you have any useful tips or tricks don't hesitate to share them with the others! Thanks!
Review + link to buy |
lol Loop holes. I love Wolf3d, first game I ever played (3 or 4 years old I was)
|
I mean I have Wolfenstein 3D - Spear of Destiny, so if there is a need for this game on this site, just ask me.
|
On my many adventures into the uncharted territory known only as the anbandonware sites, I have seen the Spear of Destiny several times. So I would guess it is ok to put it on the site...
But I'm only guessing here. The world of abandonware is a mystical place indeed... |
I didn't really like sod. Wolf3d was the one I grew up with so I guess thats the reason why.
|
This was the first game I ever played. It was on my freind's dad's laptop, I remember that I could complete it but my friend couldn't complete the first level!
|
I have all the episodes which I got free with RTCW :) when they stop selling it I'll start uploading it :P
|
At that time you will be 32, Daniel
|
Damm KOSTA>..
How can you give this game a 3 ??? it's an instant classic and still great to play!!!!... But nevermind....is this the version with all the parts?? (6) Or just only the first 1? |
None of it.
The game is still sold, so it isn't on the site. |
I have Spear of destiny Super Cd Pack.
|
I remember the first time I played wolf 3d and I had headphones on, I was really close to the screen, and I remember opening a door and a bloody big guy was behind it, and said "coming for ya" in a loud voice, I almost crapped myself. I think I was about 19 at the time. |
I love Wolfenstein series as well, I play Wolf3D almost every day, and I have Castle Wolfenstein, Wolf3D, SOD and the "Lost Episodes" (nothing lost about them though, it's just a name that stuck on them for some weird reason). I've always liked Wolf3D best. I used to have Beyond Castle Wolfenstein, but the disk stopped working
Do any of you play any TC's or addons for Wolf3D or SOD? |
I have played wolf3d SOD and RTCW. I lost my RTCW cd though  . I am currently makin a wolf3d based mod if you didn't know :ok: . Called Operation: Caos. For some screenys check my art portfolio in the Art section. The game will be distributed freewarely btw.
|
I translated the game (Wolf3D) into Icelandic this summer. It is available for download Here. It's called "Wolf3D In Icelandic" and it's in the "Registered Wolf3D" section.
Unfortunately, it only works with version 1.4  1.1 can't get past level 3 in episode one. There is an error in the map file, which the version 1.4 exe file crashes on (The source code which was released is of v1.4) I'm not sure about the other episodes. I only have version 1.4 to test with. |
My first game at all (not full version) was Wolfenstein 3D Christmad edition, shareware. Only little later I got to know that this version wasn't the original version, but hell, I like the christmas edition. It had nice graphics for the time's standard. :D
Btw., this thread belongs to Abandonia Games Discussion, moved now. ;) |
when my family bought a new computer in '93, it came equiped with three games: Ski or Die, Prince of Persia and Wolf3D. Needless to say, I loved wolfenstein the most (c'mon, you get a gun and get to shoot guys who sound like they are saying "hit bubble!"!). However, my 7-year-old little fingers and undevelped reflexes could not do much, so I forced my dad to play for me. He actually not only played, but he got to the final boss, severly wounded him and then saved the game. He let me and my brothers play from there, and we would just take the knife out and kill the final boss... we use to joke that even my mom could do it!
So yeah... this game brings back memories of my first gaming experinece. Don't even get me started on PP and Ski or Die :bleh: |
I adore wolfenstein! Altho I don't play it myself- I like watching other people play more and game customisation :)
SOD and Wolf3d aren't all that different on the inside. SOD is just one long episode with bosses. Wolf3d is six short missions with a boss at the end. SOD begins its levels differently- always in an elevator shaft. In Wolf3d you have a fake elevator behind you. And so on. I think the thing that bothers me most about SOD is some of the graphics are more violent- more blood in the graphics. And some of the backgrounds aren't as bright as the Wolfenstein ones- that whole plot at the end about fighting the Death Angel is bending on science fiction/mythology. In sticking up for SOD, I think the Ubermutant is cool :D All you get is Scabbs in Wolf3d, you don't get to battle one of his "creations". But the graphic changes from Wolf3d to SOD are nothing compared to SOD 2 and SOD 3, if you don't like SOD don't go near them because they're much stranger haha, most of the graphics are very dark and they change the objects- from keys to keycards, and the treasures's been remodelled too. I agree that Wolf3d should've at least got a 4, if not 5. (I gave it 5) It still has a lot of playability without getting to caught up in its own graphics and carries a great plot to it- unlike Doom which always repulsed me. It started a genre of video games. And for me personally I really like it because unlike other FPS, it has "limits"- you can't see 2 floors at once, nor climb stairways, nor crawl or shoot in other directions other than straight ahead. You can't "collect" things other than keys. You can't collect 50 types of guns and 50 types of ammo. I dislike 3d games that go into too much complexity and hence try to avoid 3D RPG/FPS gaming overall, however, this one game I love very much. LOL holyman9, there's actually a Godmode function in debug mode of Wolf3d, and I've heard some people use this to knife a boss to death ;) |
have any of you played the 2 secret levels of doom 2 (the ones based on this game) i think they remain as authentic to this as is possible :)
|
I loved this game at least the first part the rest just arn't as good. I probably havent played this game in 10 years but i still have the locations of all the secrets on the first floor memorized. That should tell you how much i liked this game back then.
|
JJXB? Secret levels in Doom 2? I know of secret levels in Wolf3D where you can run around in a maze with pacman ghosts after you.... Didn't know of any with Doom.
Also, did anyone have trouble with the mouse in doom 2? I can't get it to work, even after changing the config at the startup to init mouse... |
there are 2 secret levels in doom 2 based on wolfenstein 3d (try using the cheats to get to them: idclev* *=31 or 32)
|
can't you do it in the level selector in the loader?
|
im not sure, if you want to play doom 2 without the mouse problems get a doom sourceport like zdoom, doom legacy or Jdoom
|
Anyone played the "Christmas"-version of old Wolfenstein 3D? :D ;) Yes... this game was MY first FPS, but i've to admit that you get a headache (after a while) caused by the graphics! :Titan: :D
|
I first got to know of the game when I played the secret levels in one of the Doom party (can't remember which one it was). You were put into a level with Nazis everywhere shouting "Gestapo" and dying like flies if you shot at them. After you killed all of them and enterd the door to the exit, one of those veeery big rocket-launching monsters came out, leaving only one foot into a puddle of blood. Was scary ;)
Wolfenstein itself is not a very good game I woudl say. Of course it's todays FPS' father, but the colors in the game were all the same and I don't like Hitlers visage... ;) |
that was the second secret level of doom 2 (level 32) and that huge rocket-launching demon is called the cyberdemon and at the end of that level was a cross with a pillar in the middle and the 4 sides of the cross had hanging commander keen sprites that you could shoot down
|
The first time i played this game was at my friends comp. Its a damn shame that you have to pay 15 $ for this game. i wouldn't never pay that money for this game its 13 years old game.
|
Wolfenstein 3D is probably the best game in the whole world! All good shooting games in the world are made after Wolfenstein 3D! 10 x :rifle:
Modified by Omuletzu Reason: Argghh it was burning my eyes |
If you don't like the grapichs in Wolf3D (what are you really doing here then?), you should buy yourself a Mac..
http://home.no/maggof/wolfimage2.jpg |
Post wolf3d on usenet if U got it. :ok: This game should be free to all. Or ID should make the CD containing all the wolf 3d versions for $10-15. I would buy it. Not $35 for 2 seaporate downloads
|
Was that a picture of MAC version? Cool! :ok:
Anyway...i remember playing the other Wolfenstein 3D version like: Wolfenstein Christmas edition, Wolfenstein mortal kombat edition and Wolfenstein doom edition. The original is quite good, but there is no Automap :ranting: . |
It was the game that spawned a genre i sitll play occasionally - passes the time. Able to edit levels as well which i play with

I don't even remember when i played Wolf3d for the last time, maybe like 5 or more yrs ago, but i remember something that i did to the shareware version. Do you know how there's this "demo" that's playing if u leave the computer alone for a while? they show levels that u don't even have. Somehow i put escape or something and save game, then i loaded it, and it was working. And i was playing some 97th level (i don't remember exactly, but it was a really high #) It was great
|
I got all 6 episodes free with RTCW.. which I got free with a motherboard ^_^ bargain
|
There was also a Christmas editon of the game, where instead of Nazis you had to shoot Santa's who shot you from automatic guns and Snowmen who threw snowballs at you. In fact the Christmas edition was the first one I played (shareware version), and I liked it more than the original Wolfenstein 3D later.
|
Hi I have wolf 3D ! It's a great game. It's Cheat code is M+I+L all pressed togheter.
I'm a game collector and I have 6000 or more cd's with games, many originals but also pirated games. I do not sell and do not distribue the games. So do not ask. I only give games that are abandon. |
Yes ur right ...knife, Pistol , Machine gun , and galtting gun huge....this where the wepons.....in wolf 3d and spear of destiny.
|
It's ammo container is a green tank thingy. It might even be a box of rockets. But its pretty big, and the ammo is much different than the gatling gun's stuff. I found the uber weapon in some secret chamber in one of the first 3 "levels". I never found it out in the open or on a guard.
|
Quote:
|
I dont know i've never heard of any uber weap in wolf..anywhere
but there is a mod with new four episodes containing around 10 weaps including rocket launcher |
No, there wasn't more than the knife, pistol, machine gun, and the really big machine gun and the rocketlauncher/flamethrower or whatever. That's 5 weapons.
|
I don't think I ever found the rocket launcher..whereabouts was it if you can remember?
:) |
It was in a secret room where most of the level has wooden paneling. Geez, that was ages ago. I think it was there, there is another one in the level with moss/vines on the wall I think. Stupid secret rooms LOL
|
This was indeed a great game(yeah..laugh, PM for swearing :ok: )..i think i finished it for about 20 times continuously.... :max:
|
There was a rocketlauncher in the SNES-version and in the Atari Jaguar-version. However, there wasn't one in any of the REGULAR PC-versions, at least I never found one... And I beat that game (plus SoD) together with my brother to almost 100%.
And it's "Schutzstaffel", it's got nothing to do with the fat german officer from "Hogan's Heroes"... |
And to think I pulled this game out of the box. Perhaps mine was special LOL
I played the SNES, Amiga and PCs ones all the way through, never found it in the Amiga, but found it in the SNES and PC ones. That's wierd  |
|
One can check ANY FAQ, walktrough or secrets-guide for both the PC-versions of Wolf 3D and SoD and NEVER find any mentioning of a rocket-launcher or "Überwaffe"... you MUST have mistaken it with another version, blastradius.
|
I remember finding it in the Snes.
I didn't get him when he said PC ver tho. There isn't one in the PC ver. |
I remember having a rocket launcher in Wolf3D, though. But I think it was in the expansion Spear of Destiny, not in the main Wolf3D itself. They implemented the weapon in Spear of Destiny, yep, that's it. ;)
|
Quote:
|
You're right, there isn't. Not in Wolf3D, not in Spear Destiny, not in 2 additional missions of Spear Destiny with other graphics for anything. But somehow I'm sure I had it there in the game. Maybe you can't get it with cheat codes, only through finding...
|
There is no rocket launcher programmed into Wolf or SOD, if you played a version containing one, it was a mod*.
*might have been Beyond Wolfenstein by Nate Smith: http://www.wolfenstein3d.co.uk/adds_natesmith.htm Quote:
|
Creepy. There is no way I could have gotten that off of a shelf. Oh yeah, I got the game from a family friend, but it didn't say spear of destiny on it...
Maybe I did have some freaky version  |
ahh.. wolf3d gave me good memories when i was a kid. I only had the demo , but i played it a lot. i was really good at it too. i would try to kill the boss of episode 1 with a knife only - he'd own me. :bye:
but one thing i really liked about wolf3d that i think was ahead of it 's time is that one good bullet to the chest could kill some of the enemies. so you actually had to aim a bit! :bleh: |
I think that Kosta has something against id software(doom2 has only 3 also). :D
But seriously, at the time of the release, I don't think that there were any action games that could compete with this one. Personally I am not a huge fan of mindless violence, but this deserves a clean 5. For example, you can hate prodigy or sex pistols, but you have to give them credit for the revolution they brought in electronic/punk music... They sold it, so without them, there would be no things that you love. Same here... |
Hey, ya'll. See it's been a while since anybody posted....
Played this game a lot when i was a short little dude. Wolfenstein was a "household word" i guess (my grandparents, uncle, cousins dad, etc...everybody played it). I think somebody in the family actually got a hold of the registered version because i remember clicking on episode 2 and finding myself fighting in a green room (vines on the wall) and shooting at weird lookin' guys throwing knives (the mutants). faint memories. we also had a book or some kind of publication with all the levels' maps (with starting locations of all the enemies, weapons, blah, blah, blah). i have no idea where that copy and the book ended up. here recently i downloaded the shareware version (which is the first episode of the main game) to bring back the good ol' days. gotta be careful not to make yourself sick flyin' through the halls. lol. never have played the nocturnal missions or SOD. maybe one of these days. i may have to go buy RTCW game of the year edition to get all six original episodes. also: someone was wunderin' where the flamethrower/rocketlauncher is located. I have the answer. it was NOT in the PC version, but WAS in the mac. that might be why somebody could have sworn up and down they "had a flamethrower in the pc version." to some, the PC closely resembles the MAC (and it does, until you boot it up.) anyway, kind of long-winded. i just enjoy thinking back. cheers. d.j. |
Are you guys talking about the ORIGINAL Wolfenstein 3-D where you could drag bodies/hide them?My IBM ran that one, it was a miracle. Or the one they re-made right before Spear of Destiny?
This was the very first, First-person shooter I ever seen...I must've been 6 or 7. A couple of years later I got it for the SNES, but the graphics where way crappier. Later I had got a copy for the IBM (Shivers) it was a BIG Floppy disc. Lmao Is this game downloadable here? Even Spear of Destiny would be cool. |
te rocket launcher everyone is talking about is in the mac, SNES, and amiga versions. looks like this:
http://www.mac-archive.com/wolfenstein/weapons.html |
Ah thank you, I thought I was going crazy looking for a weapon that wasn't in the game.
|
Quote:
Are you sure you can get them in the SNES version? |
Quote:
|
no it isn´t illegal...
|
To my knowledge, even military models with swastikas are not permitted.
Now, what about this game? Nazi iconography ad multum. |
I remember the SNES version didn't have the nazi iconography... and they even changed some enemies (dogs were changed for giant rats).
Maybe in Germany they sell that version as legal  ??? |
Hmm,I heard that its possible to buy it,but you must directly ask for it...I could be wrong though
|
I love this game. ^_^
|
It isn't illegal in Germany, but indexed. That means one can only buy it when adult, also it is illegal to advertise it or anything....
|
Gotta love the ungh sounds. At least he doesn't talk like duke nukem :D
|
i think i remember correctly.. there was a 1 Episode Freeware version of Wolfenstein 3D, the First Episode
i have it on a 5 1/4" Floppy, i need to find it for the germans: Quote:
|
That's just a shareware version, only the first episode available, the rest needed to be purchased.

Wolfenstein 3-D is awesome, though that's been said much by people here.
Haven't played in long time, only once since I've upgraded past a 486 processor. As I recall when I did that time I couldn't get the sound to work, since none of the sound card options from 1988 worked with what I have now. The sounds were one of the best parts of this game for me.. Does anyone know whether there is a way to get the full sound to work on a current generation computer? |
Yup. There are those two handy programs called DosBox and VDMSound.
You can get them from our programs page. |
try this:
http://wolfgl.sourceforge.net/ |
I was 16 years while spending hundred of hours in the mazes of this incredible game.
Was so inmmersive, with digitized sound effects, and high addiction. Source code in C, is available for free from IdSoftware :sneaky: with john's carmack and john romero's comments on code, enemy movements,etcc.. |
Lovely game with nice music and sound to go along, those Nazi guards shouting something nasty, so shoot them!!!. Love Nazi's or Hate them, this is great game. Even today it is nice to play and I can never get tired of playing. To fight these Nazi guards and their dogs and others you have a knife, a hand gun, machine gun and chain gun.
I didn't know about the cheats until I finished the game. Any way playing this game with cheats isn't that much fun any way. The graphics are impressive considering the year in which the game was released. The Nazi emblems, the Swastika Symbols, Hitler's Posters look so impressive. The sounds and music are great. Those guns sound so cool, and when the guards die they shout something, no idea what, but they do sound good when dead. the opening of doors and closing really so cool and realistic. The controls are very simple to get used to. The game has so many secrets, so much gold to collect. This is a true classic game. This game was revolutionary game and lead way to more great FPS games like DOOM etc. |

|
Remember sitting in school playing this game, it's awesome, and for some fun there is always iddqd :P

:kosta: I just love this game, its a classic!!! played it for several years. Heil Wolf3D :kosta:
|
Hummm is a classic games and i've finished only 1 years ago:D
|
The first episode is very sweet but because of a lack of a strafe key and the annoying way the Ai rarely misses, the later episodes become a matter of reloading a lot because sometimes one shot kills and they rarely miss! And considering they spot you the second you see them, it doesn't give much time to return fire. I can complete Doom on hard easily, but when you lose half your life with one shot in W3D, before you even got a chance to respond, it starts to piss you off ;).
Still, it's the daddy of Doom, which did it all much better. Wolf3D was really a maze game and the lack of a map didn't make things much better. |
IIRC, Wolfenstein 3D does have a strafe key. You might want to check the controls config in options.
|

Yet Another Victory Post
That's it, I've completed that darned game  It took me some time, though :perv: Mind you: no cheats, no maps, no foul play, highest difficulty level...
Oh, the stories about running the level with only few % of health and little ammo... or killing SS guard with just a knife in e6m8 when I went berserk... It's not about points, it's about stats! Wolfenstein 3D v1.4 - scores skill: "I'm a Death incarnate" Code:

What an awesome game. :D I still play it on my jailbroken iPhone. It's easily the best FPS on the platform. Though I haven't tried out the new Doom game in the app store.

kill it wit fire, it uses apple products

Wolf 3D With SOD
Want the Full Version with spear of destiny go here for a CD rip version.
[EDITED] |
Wolfenstein 3D's the best FPS ever. I still love it's original gameplay mechanics. I even love the 2002 handheld remake.
|
Great shooter. Remember killing adolf in my 486 DX33 :)
|
One of the best shooters of all time!
Still remember when i was younger playng this and doom! |

I have it also on my iphone, but due to bad controls it's almost unplayable, I also have doom, and it has the same bad controls... Although doom homebrew on the DS is awesome! |
Wolfenstein 3d
How can I play Wolfenstein 3d? I can't find a way to download the game.
|
It's selling on Steam, for example, so it cannot be download freely. Except shareware versions that still can be found here and there in the internet.
|
Buy it here: https://3drealms.com/catalog/wolfenstein-3d_25/
I think the buylink needs to be updated. It takes you to the 3D Realms home page instead of straight to the game's catalogue page. EDIT spectre beat me *^_^ |
