Where are the women players? I havent noticed any ladies/girls in abandonia forum.

P.S I know that i have started too much topics, but i had to ask

P.P.S this is the 1000th topic in this section.

Havell 27-05-2005 02:34 PM

Puffin's been pretty active today, she's a girl.

EDIT: Wow, 1000th thread is really quite an acheivement.

BeefontheBone 27-05-2005 02:39 PM

tai and rainwife are women ( a helpful hint- they tend not to like being referred to as "girls" after the age of 18 :P) and i'm pretty girly, so maybe I can be an honourary woman to help make up the numbers.

EDIT: What is it with girls' nicks having "angel" in them?

This may have been intentional, actually. He's still rather young, after all, so why should he bother about "girls" aged over 18?:P j/k

Sebatianos 27-05-2005 02:49 PM

Well the Chosen one does have a point.
Rainwife's really bussy - she sometimes looks over my shoulder, but that's about it, Wendy's been away for a while (she did check in in between, but she's enjoying life - so she shouldn't be tied down behind a computer), Tai is mostly at the AR forum, Puff returned though...
There were more women, but they really seem inactive now. What happened to people like Deathangel, Squalidangel, Partizanka, Feminista, Calemety, Buffy,...
They all seem to have left us

A. J. Raffles 27-05-2005 02:51 PM

I'm not inactive, though, am I?

Sebatianos 27-05-2005 02:53 PM

That's why I didn't put your name on that list (only fairer members that aren't active currently are on that list - and I know I left some of them out).

Wow, I see there's a lot of gender confusion going around hehe.

I'm still around, but Abandonia goes much too fast for me. I tend not to have much to say here... I prefer the slower pace of AReloaded, and the smaller community.

Hey, this thread made much of the women/girls come back. :D
Please stay here more often...please???

Tom Henrik 28-05-2005 10:31 AM

They never went away.

It's just that they don't finish their sentences with: "I'm a girl, la-dee-da"

It is just one of the psychological things that happen in an online forum. Everyone assumes that the rest of the people are the same sex, same age, has the same hobbies, and even the same skin-colour. When someone tells you otherwise, like "I am a 16 year old african tribe-girl", you are baffled for a while.

wormpaul 28-05-2005 10:45 AM

Nope..

The first time you told me that you we're blue i didnt scared away...maybe it was suprising but as long you dont infect me i can live with peopel around me who got other skin colour...even when it`s a blue skin :max:

Not necessarily. I don't assume everybody else here is a 24-year-old female reading for a degree in English lit. because that would simply be a crazy thing to assume. I assume that the majority of forum members are teenaged males who were able to type before they were able to write and who have difficulties remembering what was the first computer game they played because they were still toddlers back then. And to complete my cliché idea, the rest of the forum members are also male, in their late twenties and know a great deal more about coding than I'll ever know...:bleh:

Oh, right, I almost forgot: I'm a girl, la-dee-da. :sneaky:

"teenaged male" Yep

"able to type before they were able to write" Nope, but I can certainly type better than I can write.

"have difficulties remembering what was the first computer game they played because they were still toddlers back then" I was about 4 or 5 I think, so yep.

Doc Adrian 28-05-2005 11:40 AM

And that's one of the things that make this forum special. There are quite a few older people here as well and most members are from very different countries (from all continents). This adds to the variety of ideas.

You can usually see that people aren't stereotypical on-line teenagers if they are able to make full sentancens and don't really use leet that much. I think our little forum is a nice example of that.

:eeeeeh: How should I end my reply then...: I'm a boy, dum-dum-da-dumm.

EDIT: @Doc - Grey hair? You're only a year older them I am :bleh:

Doc Adrian 28-05-2005 12:06 PM

Ya caught me :)

I only have a few of them

taikara 28-05-2005 12:07 PM

It baffles me that people often don't bother to check profiles when in doubt.

Isn't that what they're there for?

Perhaps we should implement a search function by gender just to make it easier for those incredibly inquiring minds we seem to have.

I think it took at least a month or so for the majority of our members to catch on to the fact that I am indeed female :D

BeefontheBone 28-05-2005 12:10 PM

I'll be honest, I did check yesterday to see if there was a list by gender setting on the member search, just to see if I could pput an end to this faintly bizarre discussion.

I'm not a teenager, but I am a white bloke. Quite girly though. Doo-wap de woop.

Havell 28-05-2005 12:24 PM

Puffin was the one that everyone thought was male, she was an AC/DC fan and a friend of Kiddi's and we thought "there's no way Kiddi knows anyone female." We only found out the truth with the new site design and the crew section with photos.

EDIT: Check out this post where Maikel thinks thatPuffin is a boy :bleh:

I can't change my name, so why should I be able to change my gender? (I'm talking about the forum off course in real life I can change both, but have absolutely no desire to do that whatsoever)

Actually, if you ask an admin nicely you can change your name to whatever you want (like when Puffin changed her name to Arfi briefly).

Sebatianos 28-05-2005 12:50 PM

I'm a gurl. dum-de-dum.

but like said earlier, I didn't "come out" untill the new layout.

And to be honest, I don't really think it matters if one's female or male.

BeefontheBone 28-05-2005 01:27 PM

Well, not for the purposes of posting on an internet forum, at least ... :D

omg 28-05-2005 01:29 PM

is the great thing about the internet. you can be a lespain midgit with a knife who is in a mental asylum for stabbing loads of little puppies an kitties and no one need know.

BeefontheBone 28-05-2005 01:30 PM

i don't think they tend to let you use the internet in asylums - there's far too much mad stuff on here. Of course, you can PRETEND to be that person if you like...

Flop 28-05-2005 01:34 PM

I like the new quote in your signature Beef. :D He had that coming.

omg 28-05-2005 01:36 PM

although i can see the potentiol for fun in pretending to be a knife weilding lespian midgit who stabs puppies im not gonna.
as for asylums, you get day release when you getting better. so our theoreticall knife weilding midgit would log on onece a week an scream obscenties about how puppies little eyes stare. although if you were a knife weilding lespean midgit you might pretend to be a 6 foot blonde man called brad.

BeefontheBone 28-05-2005 01:53 PM

I often spend hours whiling away the night pretending to be a 6-foot blonde man named Brad. And not just on the internet either :)

The only sensible solution to this confusion is clearly to add a gender icon under everyone's avatars forthwith!

omg 28-05-2005 02:00 PM

but would it clear up the confusion? girls on mmporg's are always getting accused of being men. (although i havnt seen our resident female population getting that kind of abuse)

A. J. Raffles 28-05-2005 02:07 PM

Why would anyone want to be called Brad? Such an ugly name...

To sex-crazed young adolescent males, it does. But don't worry; they'll grow out of it--probably in 15 or 20 years.

BeefontheBone 28-05-2005 04:54 PM

I'm sure there's a few of them for whom it doesn't matter at all. Just depends exactly HOW sex-crazed you are (well, on your preferences really).

omg 28-05-2005 07:04 PM

to the truly sex crazed gender is not a problem. it just changes the position.

BeefontheBone 28-05-2005 07:47 PM

To be fair, it has wandered a long way from the pointlessness it started with, into a whole new kind of pointlessness. Welcome to the 21st century!

TheGiantMidgit 28-05-2005 07:49 PM

Constantly evolving and adapting, the topic with the urge to survive and live on.

The_Toad 28-05-2005 07:56 PM

Its amazing how the MMORPG community has revived the female participation in my hometown area. Im from a small town in North Carolina (East Coast US) and know of at least 30 women who are very active in the gaming community now. Im trying to get them to register on here but most of them are World of Warcraft addicts now. I think gender is important in some conversational context. There are things that men talk to each other about that should never be brought up around women, and vice versa. I tend to ask gender because its easier to talk to women/gay men, usually because testostirone tends to lessen ones IQ by at least 30 points, making all the flatulence and fecices jokes funny. But thats just my opinion. For the record I'm a strait man, just in case there is any confusion.

:ok:

A. J. Raffles 28-05-2005 07:59 PM

A strait man wearing a straight jacket, you mean?:P j/k

TheGiantMidgit 28-05-2005 08:00 PM

I know alot of gamer chicks right here in my town. Some who could beat me at Warcraft, many who would kick my posterior at DDR, one who has beaten Orcarina of time with no deaths and all gold skulls, and two who are as adept at Metal Slug as I am. The rest just play The Sims, for some reason.

Its good to see women gaming. Women add an edge on multiplayer, using female anger and competitive nature. As for me being in a strait jacket, not to often, just really honest about my side of the gender pool. Most guys agree, we dont have to many intelligent conversations with each other, just mostly with women. I think its a compatibility thing. Men dont talk about emotion or personal thoughts and feelings because they feel it might threaten thier masculinity. How many times have you ever heard a pair of guys talking and the phrase "Yeah Bob, I can really relate to you there, I know you must be devistated inside, but trust me, youer heart will mend and life will go on, I promise" and then the 2 break down and cry with each other while wrapped in a mutually comforting hug... that doesnt happen. Though that is an extreme, it does illustrate the point.

I was glad when I started coming here to see that there was an actual female presence of sorts on the board, a shock for me since I rarely see gaming gals on boards or in rl for that matter, but it was good to see after awhile and I'm glad it's there :ok: , gives a different perspective and such, wicked stuff. :max:

A. J. Raffles 28-05-2005 08:22 PM

You almost make it sound like an alien presence. LOL

DeathDude 28-05-2005 08:31 PM

Not my intention LOL that's the best I could think up after writing a 2 hour midterm, ouch twisting of the brain.

BeefontheBone 28-05-2005 08:33 PM

You guys are pretty alien to me, that's for sure.

taikara 28-05-2005 08:36 PM

I admit it. I'm a recovering EverCrack addict.

I really am a badass wood elf bard underneath it all.

Actually, I started MMORPGing (if you can really call it that) back on Sierra's Realm. I knew a few other women there, too. ;)

The_Toad 28-05-2005 08:36 PM

 I wish i got as publicity as the rest of the aliens, they get all the good acting gigs...

The_Toad 28-05-2005 08:40 PM

I feel ya on the evercrack Taikara, peck rogue from rallos zek here. That was a nice 6 year run. Many men and women fought on there, on rallos it was a good balance of gender and age.

Wait until college... I've had six hour exams in math and physics :max:

That's twisting of the brain.

DeathDude 28-05-2005 09:22 PM

Oh but I am in college so I know exactly what it feels like. :bleh:

But 6 hours of math and physics now that's rough, ouchness.

I tend to ask gender because its easier to talk to women/gay men, usually because testostirone tends to lessen ones IQ by at least 30 points, making all the flatulence and fecices jokes funny.
gay men tend to be more oversexed than straight men. some gay men are totally "one of the lads" and love those sort of jokes.

Yay! It's the Absurd Generalisations Thread! Anyone care to say anything about Scousers, Cockneys, blacks, the way Germans get their towels on the sunloungers really early in the morning when you're on holiday, Celebrity Love Island viewers or teenagers wearing hoodies? The choice is yours! The phrases "political correctness gone mad" and "I'm not racist but..." will earn an extra 15 points, and combining both in one post earns the chance to win a luxury cruise around the Mediterranean, which will be one of those ones that sails between the hours of 3.45 and 6.30am on the 19th of January, with extended layovers in dull Spanish ports en route, a cabin with barely enough room for your luggage and a cut-price, even-more-disgustingly-awful Jane MacDonald as the only alternative entertainment to gloating over other passengers who are a bit seasick and have to keep running to portholes to be ill in between regaling you with endless stories about their great-nieces and nephews who've gone to art school in Croydon in an incredibly relentless, irritatingly high-pitched voice.

omg 29-05-2005 01:26 AM

political correctness has gone mad!! so i get 15 points. hoorah! i was gonna say something about im not a racist untill i realised the details of the cruise. lets see if someone else wants to win it.
(not so long ago i was a teenager in a hoodie. i abandoned it for the beenie hat tho.)
ps. what the hell is "celebrity love island" it sounds pretty inane.
pps. who is jane macdonald?
ppps i jus re read the thread from the begining it doesnt seem to absurd.
pppps.dam teenagers in hoodies! there all drug addicts!
ppppps. im running out of p's, must go drink more beer
pppppps. im out of beer,, noooo!

Yeah, to anyone who hasn't read my last sig I'm actually male. I'm just sorta investigating how I got referred to.

Might go back to faux-femininty though, just to check out people's opinions now.

Oh by the way there IS a difference. On one site I set myself up a male and 'female' account. One got totally flamed up to the point when they both left the site. I wonder which one?

PrejudiceSucks does not infer that I am fat, female, of a different ethnicity to white people, but some in the past have taken it that way.

This site, on the other hand is full of cool people. So well played to all of you for being such excellent chaps and chapettes.

Oh yeah the same site I went on had a load of Nick Griffin impersonators too. I'm not racist but... was one of the main phrases.

Also, one of my best mates is a recovering drug addict and she is possibly the nicest person you could know, so don't make sweeping statements about them. Just because their personal lives are crap doesn't mean that they're bad people.

BeefontheBone 29-05-2005 11:54 AM

yeah, sorry about my last post. i got a bit carried away there. it was about half 2 in the morning or something though...

omg 29-05-2005 12:14 PM

made me laff my as off though. and telling me not to make statements about drug addicts is like telling an indian he cant make paki jokes.
i have just had to turn down an offer of an all night party because theres loads of ketemine, mdma, crystal, ect there and im feeling so depressed i want to cry so i will make all the statements about druggies that i bloody well like in the name of humour becuse goddamit it makes me feel better about the choice i have made.

*ahem*

where are all the weeemin at.

BeefontheBone 29-05-2005 01:19 PM

reckon you might have scared them off a bit there :D

omg 29-05-2005 01:31 PM

oops. ah well thats the way it goes i supose. is happining in rl 2 a lot at the moment, i guess i need to be a druggie to have freinds or something god knows,.,.i was calmer an happier a lot when always wasted i spose.
hope prejudice dont take me personal though cuz i think hes cool.

Calamity 29-05-2005 01:37 PM

I'm still alive and well gang but thanks to my job being understaffed I sadly have very little time for the net. :( I still poke about whenever I get a chance though.

Still definately a lady as well. :ok:

BeefontheBone 29-05-2005 01:47 PM

sure, that's what YOU say :D

Calamity 29-05-2005 01:50 PM

Now now, Sir Beefy this a PG-13 forum and any reply I give would crush those limits into dust. :sneaky:
