This game is actually quite a bit of fun, everyone should play it if you think you're a true adventure fan!

FreeFreddy 16-08-2004 06:37 AM

This game looks nice. I like underwater graphics. :D

Stroggy 16-08-2004 08:47 AM

sounds a bit too preachy for my tastes.
I'll give it a try when I'm bored

wendymaree 16-08-2004 02:43 PM

Until I saw the screenshots and read the review, I didn't realise the first Ecoquest was set underwater. And as FreeFreddy mentioned, the graphics look very enticing.
Btw, nice review Xndr.

When i heard it was made by Sierra i tried it; then i realised it was for kids, with all that educational stuff... that was a major disappointment!
Anyway the second part looks better

xndr2181 16-08-2004 04:55 PM

Listen all, it actually wasn't all that preachy when I played it, it was a decent amount of fun. The puzzles are a little easy, but overall I think it was a great sierra adventure game, you should try it out. Trust me,

rallier 18-08-2004 05:26 AM

the game is for kids, yes! But it's a lot of fun too ;)
even though it's a bit short and somewhat easier than other sierra adventures it's a lot of fun, and it's not surrounded by envirementalistic approach alone but also a fight between evil and good hehehhee yes even among fish lol :P
oh and one more tip avoid the sharks...pretty nasty bites, prefer red bulls instead sharp horns but you can grab them :P
The only thing that annoys me about the ecoquest games it's that it can have a political interpretation, and it can affect kids when they grow up..... I love the enviroment and nature, but politics just use that feeling of people and especially youngsters to achieve their own goals.
Overall the game is a must for adventure lovers, and those who wish to start adventure games since it's an introductory lesson to andventure gaming hehehehe

xndr2181 18-08-2004 04:55 PM

I couldn't have said it any better rallier!! Everyone read what he said, he sums it up perfectly!

Hey..I played this game and I liked it so much.the underwater graphics and game is tooooo good..but it gets stuck in some parts of the game..its stuck now in the climax where i go to save the whale.....:-(

Guest 08-12-2004 05:50 PM

I am stuck in the scene where the manta takes the dolphin away...the animation is playing in loops...can somebody help???

Guest 24-12-2004 06:37 PM

I am having the same trouble. Its at the drift net, even before the manta u can go here by going up from the coral area and let a crab free with ur knife. But everytime Id try to leave itd make me go back up the driftnet. So i couldnt save it. Now after the manta taking the dolphin away it makes u go back there, and so it gets stuck. Just like the post above was describing, does anyone know what to do?

Tom Henrik 24-12-2004 06:53 PM

Three guest with the same problem?

What is this?
I will look into the archive.

Matt 29-12-2004 12:33 AM

How come this game and EcoQuest 2 won't work for me? For this one when I click install the screen turns black then goes back to normal. And for EQ2 it said that it was missing an install.txt or install.hlp file. I checked and both are there. Also I am using xp.

Tom Henrik 29-12-2004 12:35 AM

Then download DosBox. That program runs it perfect ;)

Matt 29-12-2004 01:00 AM

Hm... I have no clue what to do now. I installed DosBox and now I don't know what to do after I open it.

Matt 29-12-2004 01:52 AM

I found a way to run this game without opening DosBox, but it has no sound. Any and all help will be appreciated.

Tom Henrik 29-12-2004 02:15 AM

Place a shortcut for both the game and the DosBox program on your desktop.

Then drag the shortcut for the game over the DosBox shortcut, and VOILA! :)

goblins 29-12-2004 02:23 AM

heres an idea you guys need to take all the hints and tips for running DOSBOX and put em under a DOSBOX FAQ section could save a lot of posts and time.

Also facing the same problem of animation in a loop after the manta takes the dolphin away. Any one found a solution?

Garius Lupus 13-01-2005 11:25 PM

We're having the same problem with looping animation. We'll try running under dosbox and see if that helps.

Garius Lupus 14-01-2005 12:16 AM

Just tried it through dosbox and it worked fine! :ok:

holly 17-03-2005 11:14 AM

i have the same problem the animation just goes in a loop help?

holly 17-03-2005 02:20 PM

how do you play this game in odsbox?

KRypton 31-03-2005 07:32 AM

I'm surprised to see that nobody's mentioned that the actual code is 9731 instead of 9721... Just thought I'd point that out

Magical Helper 10-04-2005 03:36 AM

If the game repeats itself at the part just after the Flesh Eater takes Delphineus away, run the game in "DOSBox".

Do not play the game by openining it up in the folder you installed it in, as it doesn't run 100% perfectly if you do.

When you do run it in DOSBox, the game is slightly slower but it doesn't repeat itself at that spot anymore. Plus, you get to hear the propper sounds of the game for example... When you play with Delphineus in the pool by throwing him the frisbee, he actually says "I've Got It!" when you last throw it.

maenad_princess 10-04-2005 04:18 PM

I'm also having the same problem... when the manta takes the dolphin away, I get stuck in a loop and can't move. Any help would be appreciated!!

The Occupant 12-04-2005 08:59 PM

Help! i got the same problem withe the driftnet. I cant get out of the room also. whats more when i relese the flashlight fish in the cave its just as dark as be fore I cant see ANYthing. HELP! :help:

Guest 21-04-2005 05:18 PM

I need the code for the copy protection

email me at alex_asimov@hotmail.com

MagoG 03-05-2005 11:21 AM

Aside from the dolphin yelling "I've got it!" are we supposed to hear the rest of the people speaking? I played this game when it first came out and I seem to remember that all of the conversation was recorded, but I'm running in DosBox and not hearing any.

Thank you... :)

Guest 04-05-2005 09:11 PM

I used to have this game when I was a young kid, I had the CD version and it had voice. Is this similar to cd version or more so the disk verison? I know a company did some voice overs for a few games unfortunately the onlyones I have left with voice are kings quest 7 and loom. The others I have long lost.

Magical Helper 05-05-2005 01:51 PM

EcoQuest - The Search for Cetus has voice overs for the characters, however, just like "The Legend of Kyrandia", it only comes with the CD-ROM version of the game and the one downloaded from Abandonia is the Floppy Disk version.

The only voice overs in the Floppy Disk version that I have found is that the Dolphin "Delphineus" says "I've Got It!" in the pool and Adam says "OUCH" after being bitten by a local Elurian.

Guest 05-05-2005 06:05 PM

anywhere to get the cd version?

Will81 25-05-2005 07:36 PM

Better make that four guests with the same problem! I tried the game on my old P2 350Mhz and it played perfectly... Until the point mentioned by previous users. Once you escape from the net, the game keeps playing in loops. Nothing you can do about it. Anyone found a solution to this yet? :help: I had this game on my first computer ten years ago, so I enjoyed the play, bit of a downer that I can't finish it... :wall:

AlCaTrAzz 14-06-2005 12:10 PM

hey, i own an old copy of this game on floppy disks, however, 2 of the disks are now corrupt. is there any way i can get this game online?

The Fifth Horseman 14-06-2005 03:43 PM

ESA denied us permission on this game.
Contact ESA on getting a replacement. I hope you have all the neccesary proof (bill, box, manual, original disks) to convince them that you _really_ purchased it.

AlCaTrAzz 15-06-2005 11:48 AM

proof of purchase on a game that was bought over 10 years ago... your kidding right?

i have the original box and the original disks... thats all... and as much as i want to play it, it sounds like way too much effort to get a game that should be abandonware

snow_wolf 28-07-2005 01:00 AM

I ran into the looping problem after getting free from the driftnet while running the game under win98 on a p2 450. I've managed to get out of that looping thing by saving the game just before you have to flee from the manta then putting the game speed to maximum until just after the manta knocks you out of the way once you are free from the net. Then return your game to normal speed and continue on your way to saving the whale. For some reason... playing the game while playing at the normal speed the manta only knocks you a short distance away and it throws you into the loop. You should get knocked to about the bottom of the screen.

Hope that helps.. it worked for me anyway. Happy playing! ;)

Nope. I'm deathly serious.

Should suffice for a proof. Worth giving it a try.

teh wisp 09-10-2005 12:43 AM

Hey I've been looking for this and a few other old games I used to play and I'm starting to get desperate. I don't care about a free download anymore, just somewhere to buy it, or any one who's posted who might be willing to sell it. Anybody??

Guest 06-02-2006 12:50 AM

I just bought the CD version on ebay. It has the full voices, i'd put it up for download if it were legal.

Guest 07-01-2007 01:00 AM

I am trying to play Search for Cetus using DosBox, I read the tutorial and i have the game downloaded and installed, now i'm just stuck on how to get it to play..... help? :sos:

Guest 07-01-2007 01:04 AM

never mind i figured out how to start it...thanks!

Janie 07-01-2007 02:22 AM

:sos: help!!! I was playing search for cetus with dosbox, I got all the way to the point I was helping the apartment residents. I was swimming up to the surface to help gregarious (sp?) the manatee and my computer died. some blue screen came up saying that something had happened and that I needed to restart my computer and then it said something like "deleting physical memory: 13" and the number kept climbing. so i hit restart and when it started back up i saw a flash of the same screen and my computer restarted itself, this happened over and over again!! what happened?? and how do i fix it?!

The Fifth Horseman 08-01-2007 09:50 AM

Sounds like you got a virus from somwhere. Visited many porn/warez sites recently?

Aluria 17-02-2007 02:03 AM

I noticed that on the review page it says that the game is compatible with Windows XP. That isn't true. I own the CD version and have tried running it many times on Windows XP. The game runs but you just get a black screen most of the time.

Cranium 18-02-2007 02:47 PM

My game crashes in the dark cave with the brick wall. When I take the thing between the rocks after I have removed the bricks, the game crashes. I am using DosBox 0.65.

Games don't work indentically on every XP-equipped system.
Also, the compatibility tag only means the game will run in that system - not that it will run flawlessly.
This is why we advise most people to use DosBox to run these games.

Magical Helper 12-03-2007 02:27 AM

Not many people seem to be listening to you when you say, "Use it under DOSBox!". LOL

Or are they?

The Fifth Horseman 12-03-2007 01:45 PM

Sadly, they don't. That's what I have this hammer-stamp for.
One swing, and they'll remember it every time they look in a mirror.^_^

Magical Helper 24-03-2007 06:27 AM

:P hehe

This same problem is happening to me, too. Can't really figure out why. Any suggestions? Anyone?

Beep 30-08-2007 01:02 AM

I actually played this when I was a kid of about 5+ and I loved it back then (I remember I called the flesh-eaters the flush-eaters). I recently came back to it and it still is an awesome game. Yes, it is a bunch of environmental preaching but it kinda makes it fun to play and laugh at if you're not into all that. (he's like johnny quest in a way...only more ecologically concerned) I think what really makes the game is the music - it's quite atmospheric and fits the underwater theme perfectly - and of course the classic sierra gameplay.
Great game - don't pass it up just because its a preachy kids game; you could be missing out on a lot of other fun. :)

ADAM 11-10-2007 03:35 PM

the CODE to the door ... click in E button , and after click in the number 1 ...

ralfaroni 13-03-2008 09:25 PM

Help! lol

Sorry I know this has been mentioned on here but I'm new to this whole thing so I kinda need help. My game goes into a loop after I get out of the net and I know it was mentioned to play the game in Dosbox. How do you do that? (lol I know I'm not the brightest person) I have the DosBox program but I don't really know how to use it. Thanks to any one who might be able to help me!

dosraider 13-03-2008 10:14 PM

Try to read this:
A beginner's guide to DOSBox
It will certainly help you.

Really annoying! Especially as there is no autosave.
When you try to grab the thing falling out of the blocked passage, the game terminates, and "Out of handles!" is printed in DOSBox...
Why?

But in the version in this site every 4 digits work, no? Like someone hacked it. So why did the review even mention this number in the first place?
