Ok, I thought it was time for a new game.. Samre rules as usual The first person names a quote from a movie, the person who guesses the movie and the character saying it gets to post a new one...

ok here it goes:

Quote: " You're on a need to know basis, and you don't need to know"

ReamusLQ 30-07-2005 09:02 PM

The Rock, said by Nicholas Cage.

Speaking of him, did you know he is going to be playing Ghost Rider in the upcoming Marvel film? It could be cool.

Crap, now it's my turn. Ummmmm....

-"All creatures are beautiful in the eyes of the Lord!"
-"Not her"
-"...no, not her"

omg 31-07-2005 01:12 PM

clues! clues!

efthimios 31-07-2005 02:31 PM

I think I know the title but not the character's name. Can we just post one of the two and then the person who finds the second wins or do we have to know both to answer at all?

ReamusLQ 31-07-2005 02:48 PM

it's all one quote...it's an exchange froma movie. It's an older movie, and it is freakin hilarious

Uh....Gene Wilder in Young Frankenstein. :P I have no clue. :P

no...<looks at back of movie for more clues>

It was made in 1989, and has Michael Keaton in it

Indignus IV 31-07-2005 07:04 PM

Batman Returns?

 I don't know

Stroggy 31-07-2005 07:29 PM

The Dream Team ?

TheGiantMidgit 31-07-2005 07:31 PM

Yea, that's what my gut it telling me too. Dream Team. Naturally, actor names are always out of my grasp... they always seem so trivial to me. I think it was Peter Boyle who said it.

ReamusLQ 31-07-2005 07:37 PM

Stroggy gets it. Dream Team it is

If you haven't seen it, rent it...it is HILARIOUS! LOL

Stroggy 31-07-2005 07:42 PM

Alright, here's one which should be rather easy:

"Put the pick in there, Pete, and turn it 'round real neat. "

hehe...Dune!

Stroggy 31-07-2005 08:20 PM

That quote, for some reason, didn't seem to fit either that scene or the entire movie at all.

ReamusLQ 31-07-2005 08:31 PM

so I'm assuming I'm right? Ok then!

Quote:

O Captain, my Captain. Who knows where that comes from? Anybody? Not a clue? It's from a poem by Walt Whitman about Mr. Abraham Lincoln. Now in this class you can either call me Mr. Keating, or if you're slightly more daring, O Captain my Captain.

Stroggy 31-07-2005 08:34 PM

Easy,... Dead Poets Society

ReamusLQ 31-07-2005 08:46 PM

Bad Taste.

omg 01-08-2005 12:14 PM

correct. a quoter is you.

Stroggy 01-08-2005 12:34 PM

Okay, here's one from a pretty recent "movie"

"les jeux sont faites"

omg 01-08-2005 12:37 PM

oh comeon. the majority first language on these forums is english. dont be putting non english films up.

Lonely Vazdru 01-08-2005 12:39 PM

It should be "les jeux sont faits", is the mistake intentional ? Anyway you can hear that one in every casino, so my guess will be Ocean twelve.

Stroggy 01-08-2005 12:39 PM

I'll give a hint: it's not a french film at it was nominated for an oscar recently.

omg 01-08-2005 12:46 PM

why is it a "movie" , rather than a movie stroggy. and did you ever actually watch bad taste or did you just google it.
more hints would be good if you are going to be using either a: forighn translations of english language films
or b: non english language films.
as this is meant to be an english language forum using quotes from movies that arnt english language seems a bit unfair really.

Stroggy 01-08-2005 12:51 PM

I did not google it, and I think using quotes from a movie with a lot of succes (and controverse) which was not in english will prevent people from simply googling it. I called it a "movie" because some see it as an actual movie while others see it as a documentary.
I've given quite a few hints, now please, quit complaining.

omg 01-08-2005 12:54 PM

the majority of people here have english as there primary language.

Stroggy 01-08-2005 12:57 PM

I believe the movie was dubbed into english in Britain and the US, in any case a quality movie doesn't have to come from the US or Britain, now does it?
Haven't you ever seen classics like Das Boot?

lethe 01-08-2005 01:04 PM

Sea Inside?

That's about the only foreign movie I remember from last year's oscar. I don't remember any french in it though.....

Stroggy 01-08-2005 01:05 PM

It's not in french.

lethe 01-08-2005 01:08 PM

Nop, that one was actually spanish :bleh:

Stroggy 01-08-2005 01:12 PM

Oh, is "sea inside" by any chance "Mar adentro"? I saw that one with a friend not too long ago(a few months)
It's not the answer, though... did you like the movie?

Yes it is. It's an amazing movie, such determination for a cause is always touching, and it's very well done so spectators can grip it in and feel what he was feeling.

moogle 01-08-2005 06:01 PM

 Les Miserables, yes I know its french...but.... :wall:

Stroggy 01-08-2005 06:22 PM

Frodo 01-08-2005 06:30 PM

Yes. Tell us. Please.

:D

Argith Nuei 01-08-2005 06:42 PM

Wild guess. Der Untergang? This was quite a nutter.

Stroggy 01-08-2005 07:06 PM

Well it looks like I won't have to, since Argith Nuei got it!
It was The Downfall/Der Untergang

TheGiantMidgit 01-08-2005 07:16 PM

Downfall? That was pretty recent wasn't it? Either that, or it fell to the syndrome most films that our film society gets in, taking it's sweet time to migrate this far north.

Stroggy 01-08-2005 07:53 PM

It participated in the last oscars I think, it was nominated for best foreign film but the eventual oscar went to mar Adentro (probably because The Downfall was too controversial for some people who don't like their history accurate)

Apocalypse Dude 01-08-2005 08:06 PM

Seen the movie, don't recall that quote (seen it in german by the way)..

Well Argith supriss us....

TheGiantMidgit 01-08-2005 08:41 PM

It is indeed. But such a short and popular sentence can probably be heard in many movies ! :ok:

I wasn't sure since I remembered the quote as "Nazis, I hate these guys!" but it could be he said "nazis, I hate nazis"
so do I get the honor of coming up with a new quote?

more hints will come later if no one gets it from that.

Frodo 04-08-2005 06:59 PM

omg - is it Blade Runner?

omg 04-08-2005 07:54 PM

nope. as far as i am aware the book this movie is adapted from has only been mentioned onece by a member, but the author has been mentioned more than onece.

Fruit Pie Jones 04-08-2005 08:11 PM

Apocalypse Now? OK, I admit, I'm just guessing. That's better than Googling, though...right?

hmm. i hope giving away that the fact it is set after a nuculear war is ungooglable.

Lonely Vazdru 04-08-2005 10:04 PM

A boy and his dog ? And the quote would be from the dog, whose nickname is Prof in french, so that would be Doc in english ?

omg 04-08-2005 10:07 PM

yup its a boy and his dog. one of my faveorate movies of all time. the dog was called "blood" in the movie.

Lonely Vazdru 04-08-2005 10:10 PM

Yeah great movie ! One of the only movies i own. Blood ? that's weird. Anyway here's my quote it should be easy but it's roughly translated from french so it might not be 100% accurate.

If it can bleed, it can be killed. :sniper:

OK, back from the long weekend break.

"What have you got there, dead cat?

F*** you, a**hole."

That movie is just sooo classic... That's one of the very few funny texts there, though.

Terminator 1?

The Fifth Horseman 17-08-2005 03:02 PM

I don't know if you'll know this, maybe just Nick will answer, err... O.K.

In Russian:
"Ty sto - gluchaniemoi?"
"Da."

In English:
"What are you - deaf and dumb?"
"Yes."

Yeah, same here...because I watch SO many Russian movies...

troop18546 20-08-2005 08:05 PM

Main reason I gave this - I couldn't remmember any other quote.

The main character was played by Yuri Nikulin who was keeping some diamonds in his supposedly "broken" arm's cast.
Even the the name of the movie was named "______ ruka" ("_____arm").

Even if that is too hard - carry on with giving your own quotes.

swiss 20-08-2005 08:07 PM

the I suppose it's this film : Brilliantovaya ruka - whatever that means ...

If that is right, then here is my quote:

"Look at the teeth. It's a killer!"
(I hope that's it - it's been quite a while since I watched this movie)

troop18546 20-08-2005 10:09 PM

Yup. Yer right SWISS. It means "Diamond-arm".

It's an anime, if you need a hint.

Great game ppl!

My quote is ...it's my turn right?............:Just now, when my wife swallowed that story about the light bulb.

Good luck :bye:

Mmm, now let me think.
Could that possibly be Star Wars?

Does that mean it's my turn now? :bleh:

Loial 30-08-2005 07:16 AM

Actually it's from Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, and the quotee is of course Darth Vader...

EDIT: and watching through that great scene right now, I can even correct the quote... It's not "Luke, I'm your father"... it goes like this:

Quote:

DV: Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father.
LS: He told me enough! He told me you killed him!
DV: No. I am your father.
LS: No. No. It's not true. That's impossible!
DV: Search your feelings. You know it to be true.
LS: Nooooooo! Noooooooo!

Gosh, that's one of the greatest movie moments ever! Of course all while the Darth Vader theme, "Empiral March", plays in the background... I still get goosebumps!

EDIT: and checking up on imdb show they've got the quote wrong! Oh it's just a minor thing, missing a "No" and have "That's not true" instead of "It's not true"... But a movie trivia freak like me gotta submit a correction!!!

The Fifth Horseman 30-08-2005 12:11 PM

Yup, Stebbi. Correct answer. Go!

Fruit Pie Jones 30-08-2005 03:22 PM

I think he's already posted the following quote:

Quote:

Just now, when my wife swallowed that story about the light bulb.
I have no idea where it's from; I just wanted to make sure the game was still in progress.

Loial 30-08-2005 04:53 PM

Well, I had no idea either... Decided to look it up, and though I've seen alot of that stuff, I can't remember that quote... Not sure if it qualifies as a movie either... So I just say that I believe it was Rene that said it. Then 'll hope I didn't spoil too much for thos trying to remember, and should still be able to guess, and if I'm wrong you should be able to tell.

However if I'm right and noone else claims the turn, I'd like to propose a new quote. I'd like to take a movie that's somewhat relevant for the site/forum... (hmm... maybe I give away to much already...) And to make it a little hard I'll take my favourite quote from that movie, that really doesn't give away much of the plot, but could be for any high-school flick... If noone guesses it I'll supply with another, more plot-revealing quote later. And I'm sorry, but I will probably be away for the next 15 hours...

Quote:

- Alright, Lightman. Maybe you can tell us who first suggested the idea of reproduction without sex?
- Er, your wife?

But wait for Stebbi to confirm my turn...

Loial 31-08-2005 04:52 PM

Haven't heard more from Stebbi, so I guess we can continue with my quote...
And a followup-uote from the same movie, should maybe point you in the right direction...

Quote:

- I loved it when you nuked Las Vegas. Suitably biblical ending to the place, don't you think?
Oh, and by the way... That Stebbi-quote seems to be from "Allo-Allo" a tv-series revolving around René, who runs a restaurant i a french village, during WW2. I liked the first seasons, but got duller over the years... Nothing new really happened, just repeating the old phrases like "Listen wery carefully, I will say this only once.", "You stupid woman!" and the germans with: "Clop!". But I don't think either qualify as Movie Quotes... Then again... Maybe Stebbi had the quote from another film...

Stroggy 31-08-2005 04:54 PM

Casablanca.... er, I mean, War Games

:[img]http://www.abandonia.com/forum/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' />

Oh, you got that one while I was editing my last post... hehe... Correct, of course! My last quote-hint would have been "- Is it a game... or is it real?
- What's the difference?" Have such good memories from seeing that film... Beeing a geek and all!

Stroggy's next!

Reamus, yours is from Waiting for Guffman

Horseman, is yours from that film where that guy dies but then reappears to his friend, just slightly more decayed each time? (I can't remember the name)

The Fifth Horseman 09-09-2005 01:19 PM

Nope. Michael is a human, the other speaker is an AI of sorts. The movie was based on a TV series.

Frodo 11-09-2005 03:34 PM

I think we need a new quote, so here goes. Who knows what film this is from?

'You're very lucky to be invited up to Frank's laboratary.'

Much less then the TV show...

Lonely Vazdru 12-09-2005 01:24 PM

Ok ! Opening sequence of one of the coolest movies ever :

As far back as i can remember, i always wanted to be a gangster. :pimp:

The Fifth Horseman 12-09-2005 01:45 PM

The Godfather?

Lonely Vazdru 12-09-2005 01:48 PM

Nope. But it's one of those mob movies though.

Aristharus 12-09-2005 03:17 PM

Oh yeah! Goodfellas. :) A great movie. Not to be compared with The Godfather, of course, but still fantastic.

EDIT: Don't think many movies have that in the beginning, so I suppose I can continue the game as Lonely Vazdru doesn't seem to be here.

So here goes, my quote:
"I watched a snail... crawl along the edge... of a straight razor... That's my dream... That's my nightmare... Crawling, slithering... along the edge of a straight... razor...
And surviving."

Frodo 12-09-2005 06:52 PM

@ Aristharus

Let's wait for Lonely to confirm you are right, before starting a new quote. :D

Aristharus 12-09-2005 07:13 PM

I still doubt there to be another mob movie that almost starts with that quote. :)

But it's ok, let's wait. You can try to remember my quote meanwhile.. before Lonely confirms that I am right. :bleh:

If you want, I can tell more. The guy that says that is Henry Hill, played by Ray Liotta. It's narrated, just after the gangsters (Henry, Jimmy and Tommy, I think) kill the guy in the trunk. After they realize he's still alive... I think.

Sorry, I'm just bored, so I'll just write something here. :D

Lonely Vazdru 12-09-2005 08:54 PM

Yes you're right. Sorry for being late.

Thanks for the fair-play Frodo, you should be a paladin, not a hobbit. :Titan:

And i have no idea whatsoever about Aristharus weird snail quote.

Aristharus 12-09-2005 08:57 PM

No problem, I'm just impatient. And I was bored, as I said. :)

But.. I'll repeat the quote:
"I watched a snail... crawl along the edge... of a straight razor... That's my dream... That's my nightmare... Crawling, slithering... along the edge of a straight... razor...
And surviving."

Which movie? I think it might be a pretty hard one. Many have probably seen the movie, but that quote isn't probably so hard to remember from there.

I you don't remember it, I'm ready with more quotes from the same movie.

EDIT: Added lots of periods to the quote. :) That represents the line in the movie a bit better now.

Lonely Vazdru 12-09-2005 09:01 PM

It doesn't ring any bell in my memory, but let's wait for other guesses before you add another quote.

Aristharus 12-09-2005 09:10 PM

I intentionally chose a quote that doesn't stick to your memory so easily. Or at least I think it won't. :) The next ones will be easier. If they're needed.

An oh yeah, I edited the quote just a bit.

Aristharus 14-09-2005 06:21 AM

It isn't THAT hard! Or maybe it is, then.

Can't think of hints that wouldn't be too easy.

That line in the film is on a recording that is played pretty early in the movie. It's followed with another recording with this line on it (said by the very same voice as the last one):

"We must kill them. We must incinerate them. Pig after pig. Cow after cow. Village after village. Army after army. And they call me an assassin. What do you call assassins that accuse assassins?" and so on..

This will probably be an easier one. The same man dies in the end of the movie, his last words being: "The horror... The horror."

allyfaucet 14-09-2005 06:22 AM

Apocalypse Now! A great movie! :ok:

Aristharus 14-09-2005 06:24 AM

Damn, it was too easy then. :) Was it the "The horror" or did you remember the recording of Kurtz in the beginning?

But yes, it's Apocalypse Now! And a great movie too. :) So it's your turn.

allyfaucet 14-09-2005 06:30 AM

Well, I read Heart of Darkness which is what the movie is based on. My class focused a lot on "the horror...the horror" because it's so famous and what it means and all that. There's actually a really REALLY long version of Apocalypse now, and I've seen the shorter one, that cuts out a lot of the "unnecessary" stuff, so maybe I missed your other quote.

Anyway...

If his premature demise has in some way enlightened the rest of you as to the grim finish below the glossy veneer of criminal life, and inspired you to change your ways, then his death carries with it an inherent nobility. And a supreme glory. We should all be so fortunate. You can say "Poor Toby." I say: "Poor us."

Aristharus 14-09-2005 06:36 AM

I know it's based on Heart of Darkness, I haven't read it yet, but I have planned to read it for a long time. The other quote is in the original Apocalypse Now, too. Not only in the Redux, if you meant that with the long one. It's in the beginning, when Willard is given the assignment.

I knew I shouldn't have posted the "The horror" yet. I had readied a couple of harder quotes to post first, I don't know why I put that one there already. :)

Damn! Your quote is too familiar! I just can't recall where it's from...

Btw, the Redux sucks compared to the original Apocalypse Now. Everything cut out from the original is cut out for a good reason.

allyfaucet 14-09-2005 06:38 AM

Yeah, I tried watching it. Not only is it 3.5 hours long (or around there) it's totally boring with sprinkles of good parts (that are all in the original :bleh: )

Aristharus 14-09-2005 06:49 AM

Sorry about going :ot: , but I just have to say this. Just this one.

Not only is it boring, the cut parts make the good parts worse. Most don't fit in the characters at all. Willard isn't very playful or anything in the movie. He just wants to get the job done and so on. Yet still in the Redux he decides to play a practical joke on Kilgore and steal his surfboard after the famous "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" scene. Now why in the hell would he do that? Almost every one of the cut scenes just don't fit in. Just like that one.

The Fifth Horseman 15-09-2005 12:05 PM

OK, 24 hours time-out.

This quote is simple. It's in many, many movies, but in the one I have in mind it's a particular scene on the beginning. One that gives an evil grin  to anyone who recalls it, in fact.

"Who are you?"

Aristharus 15-09-2005 12:06 PM

It gave me something more like this  so I probably don't know.

The Fifth Horseman 15-09-2005 01:39 PM

I can't post the reply to that question, since it would be a flat out solution, sorry.

It was based on a comic book, if it helps.

Frodo 15-09-2005 01:54 PM

One of the Batman films?

The Fifth Horseman 15-09-2005 02:03 PM

And which one of them might that be?

Frodo 15-09-2005 02:24 PM

Batman
Batman Returns
Batman 2
The Legend Of Batman

ReamusLQ 15-09-2005 02:58 PM

I dunno about the "Who are you" quote, but Allyfaucet's was from Gone in 60 seconds

The Fifth Horseman 15-09-2005 03:22 PM

Frodo, it was the very, very first Batman movie. The one with Joker.

"Who are you?"
"...Batman..."

I guess Rinforzando doesn't want to make a film quote, so here'e another one.

C'mon, it's been four days! Give us another clue!

Rinforzando 26-09-2005 02:30 PM

Since it's been a week, and I didn't post a quote when I guessed correctly before, I'll post one now.

"We're on the express elevator to hell!... Going down!!!"

Lonely Vazdru 26-09-2005 02:31 PM

Aliens, when they go down on the planet LV-426, must be said by Hudson.

Rinforzando 26-09-2005 02:33 PM

Man, that was too obvious!

Your turn

Lonely Vazdru 26-09-2005 02:41 PM

Ok ! This is roughly translated from french (i'm the first to be sorry that i don't have this movie in it's original language, namely english) :

They conquer whole worlds and we retreat.
They assimilate whole systems and we retreat.
This stops here ! They won't go one step further ! Now it's time to make them pay !

Rinforzando 26-09-2005 08:30 PM

French... Sci-fi... hmm...
The only the I can think of that fits that description is the fifth element. But I'm probably not right.

Lonely Vazdru 27-09-2005 01:38 AM

No it's not french. What i meant was the copy of it i own is dubbed in french. But it's an american movie. Part of a very famous series.

Alf Hari 27-09-2005 02:29 AM

If you don't mind me making two guesses...

...is it the Star Trek series of movies you're talking about?

Or maybe Battlestar Galactica?

The sentence "Do you wanna live forever?" is said many times in the Conan the Barbarian movie, but I doubt there's apes. :P

And that couldn't be anyone's favourite movie of all time..

EDIT: And yes, I do realize that it probably doesn't literally mean apes. But I still doubt it being Conan The Barbarian (or Conan The Destroyer, I can't remember which is which. Equally bad movies, though)

Another EDIT: Why am I an Abandonia Nerd now?! I liked Forum Hobbit much more. Sure, I am a nerd, but do you have to tell it to everyone?!

Shelley 10-11-2005 11:14 AM

LOL

I don't know, first thing that comes to mind with apes is of course 'Planet of the apes', but I don't think that's the movie you're quoting from....

Nikson 10-11-2005 11:54 AM

No there are no apes in the quoted movie :P

Alf Hari 11-11-2005 01:24 PM

I'm sorry if this isn't clear to anyone who doesn't speak English, but I think this is the name of the movie you're talking about:

I think I've got the right story (I'm pretty sure I do). The story is also one of my all-time favourite movies and probably my favourite book. As far as I know, the quote is said by a drill sergeant or commanding officer to the rookie marines. In the book, the quote is from a specific military commander, though I can't remember who.

Fruit Pie Jones 11-11-2005 05:14 PM

Of course! Starship Checkpurse! I love that film!

Nikson 11-11-2005 11:33 PM

LMAO!
Joke aside, Jones got it right :) Starship Troopers

BeefontheBone 11-11-2005 11:50 PM

Starboat Tickbag? Isn't he one of Spongebob's friends?

Lonely Vazdru 12-11-2005 02:42 AM

Wow ! "At night, the vessel speeds to prevent the green armed cube from stealing your grandma's purse", one of my all times' favorite. :Brain:

Nikson 12-11-2005 05:15 AM

That is in the top 10 most random sentences I have ever heard :O

Fruit Pie Jones 13-11-2005 01:25 AM

I like Starboat Tickbag more than my guess, but I'll take the turn. I'll even post the same quote I posted last time:

"You ate sand?!"

Rinforzando 18-11-2005 09:15 AM

Since the thread seems dead, I guess no-one knows who ate sand, why they did it, and why they'll do it again. More importantly, they don't know what film it's from.
So for the sake of continiuity, I used the IMDb to search for film quotes (cheating, I know). Is it 'raising arizona', whatever the hell that is?

a15drian 18-11-2005 09:22 AM

Harry Potter 4 is going to appear yey :Brain:

It is indeed Raising Arizona, one dang funny film. I'm sorry you're not acquainted with it.

Rinforzando 24-11-2005 02:28 PM

Try this quote for size...

"They melvined me"

Luchsen 24-11-2005 08:24 PM

Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.

Rinforzando 25-11-2005 12:31 PM

Excellent! LOL

Your turn.

moogle 25-11-2005 04:45 PM

Was that the second one?

Luchsen 25-11-2005 06:58 PM

Yes.

allyfaucet 25-11-2005 07:09 PM

@ Luchsen, I believe it is your turn :P

Luchsen 25-11-2005 07:33 PM

I know but I had to make a big deal with my toilet bowl...

:"You don't know the real me."
:"There isn't a real you."
:"Oh yeah, I forgot. "

Gelfo 02-12-2005 01:50 PM

haha

we totally just melvined death dude

BeefontheBone 02-12-2005 04:11 PM

Heh, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey - watched that last night, as it happens. I don't think anyone got the previous one, though.

Aristharus 02-12-2005 07:21 PM

And concidering the fact that the quote before the last one no-one got was also from the same movie, and had the same "melvined" word in it (which was probably the whole point of the quotes), that was a pretty strange effort anyway..

BeefontheBone 02-12-2005 08:18 PM

Yeah, but I'd forgotten that on account of the big delay :)
